When he posted that, BB was showing that there were other 3080s available, including the ASUS ROG 3080 I originally wanted.

Gotta check it daily as much as you can.

I used a chrome extension called distill. I had it monitor the bestbuy 3080 page and refresh every 30 seconds. I have my personal computer directly next to my work PC so I just let it run all day. There is a Reddit post with directions. Worked like a charm. I was going for the asus model but could only snag this one. Just happy to get something.

Also, when I got my 3090 off of Newegg, it kept showing in stock but took a while to finally get it into my cart. Not sure if this is bot protection so they all don't get sold out in seconds, but if something is showing in stock, just keep trying to add it to your cart. Make sure you have all of your credit card info and shipping info ready so you can click your way through it.

^This and also be logged in. For Newegg I find wishlist trick works better than product page.

I've been trying the Stock Drops discord, and every single time I get a notification from them I click on it the second it pops up, and the ones on Newegg are already gone.

Keep hitting refresh. It sounds dumb but they will show as in and out of stock on and off.

Part of me wants to go dive into Nvidia's investor relations information to understand what their manufacturing capabilities are, how they performed in 2020 vs. 2018-2019 and then see if this is all a manufactured shortage or true issue in manufacturing.

I don't want to take the time to do that but it sounds interesting.

My 1080 is still performing well for my needs.

Edit: Also I'm still rocking the i7 4790k with 16GB DDR3 RAM

Right there with you. I don't have the motivation to try to get a 3080. Maybe that will change.

I went to Micro Center on Saturday around 1 PM. No RTX 30 cards or Zen 3 CPUs, as I expected. I saw a lot of young kids (8-12ish looking) accompanied by their parents, hunting for PC parts. I overheard an employee explaining the shortage to a mother and she was totally bewildered and said "wait, I can't just get these things on Amazon?"

The employee there said they get shipments every weekday and that if you're in line by 8AM give or take, you should be able to get a card. Maybe I'll just suck it up do that in a month or two if I'm still desperate and none of my online tracking methods work (i.e. Distill). A new PC isn't a huge priority for me right now so I can wait a bit.

I have enough of the sim rig to start building out the frame and get the Miata seat mounted! Still waiting on shifter/wheel mount bits.

But it's all stuff that mounts with T-channel so I can get 95% of it done and then final elements can go on last without any issues.

I think this new Shuffle lottery system killed that. At one point today I found a Strix 3070 listed as in stock but it errored out every time I tried to add to cart. I might just take a day off and drive the 45 min to Microcenter early one morning since HR is telling me I need to take some days off before I lose them.

So i threw my hat in the ring on shopBLT for a 5900x. Never tried to pre-order parts before but dear god if this works its 1000x simpler than trying to time the internet.

Here's my build productivity (coding) focused build. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mvKWj2

Anyone know anything about cooling 5900's? I currently have that cooler on my current system and its not bad but it seems water cooling has gotten a LOT cheaper and Noctua has gotten a LOT more expensive. Should i look at a system like that?

Next up is to try and find a video card, i'd love to get a beefy RTX 30something but i have to admit that my gaming time has been at -100% for years and probably won't get better.

All this is to replace my 4770k and GTX 760 as i've been having problems with SATA for years and also have serious problems with trying to run 3 VMs at the same time on 16gb of ram.

The D15 is as or more capable than any name brand 280mm AIO water cooler (the minimum you'll want) and cheaper than most, isn't it?

Cheaper than most water coolers but not all. There's a lot more brands out there than there was 7 years ago when i built up before.

I never had a problem with my D15 even with crazy overclock on my 4770 but it always bugged me how little space there was in the case because that god damn thing is huge. Wouldn't mind spending $10-$20 more never have to deal with that again.

I think that the D15 is roughly the same size (cubic inch wise) as a 280 AIO cooler, just packaged in a different shape. Sometimes one shape works better than the other.

Also got a D15 in a Meshify-C, it's tight but I do enjoy the cooling performance of it.

I'd go air if I didn't care so much about looks and wanting RGB RAM I wonder if some nerd out there has made a master spreadsheet if certain motherboard + air cooler + RAM stick configurations work or not as far as physical clearance goes...

RGB is quite frankly the stupidest ***ing thing in the world and the fact that sometimes RGB is cheaper than non RGB makes me quite mad.
