rear brake pad wear on modern cars.
I read it's generally higher than what used to be normal wear due to a number of reasons mostly down to stability control. Fine, accelerated wear, big whop. Oh no... the inner pad wears faster than the outer pad so that quick visual check of the outer one and assumption the inner is about the same... out the window. I have become something I hate: a person that has worn brake pads down to the backing plate. but just the rear inner pads. related gripe(s) Working on a car in a parking lot. Not a second thought given when you're 20 but after having had a garage and getting old it ****ing sucks. Scissor jack. They suck bad enough on their own but I had to borrow one from my roommate's Mazda 3 since my car doesn't have a jack at all. I broke the bar that goes into the jack screw after fighting hard to let the car down so my car was stuck on the jack after changing only passenger side pads. my car like many doesn't come with a jack #------------------------------------------------------- joy: a neighbor let me use their truck's bottle jack which was just lovely after using a scissor jack. overall gripe: car maintenance. It's time and/or money

I'm homeless and mostly happy I had the tools at all to do the job. Not sure why I gave away my jacks when I sold the house And left the jack stands in the house too.

Apparently, when it comes to going in to get blood drawn, Dr's orders that say "Complete by January 1, 2022, Expires November 1, 2022" means I'm not supposed to drive all the way there before January 1st.
I should go do it on the first, my blood should be pretty sanitized that morning. |

I have a certain breakfast food from my childhood that I really enjoy. It's rather a PITA to make, so I typically only make it a couple of weeks before Christmas when I'm home and have time and energy to make it.
One of the ingredients is sausage. Went to 3 different grocery chains yesterday. All 3 of them were completely out of sausage. That included both store brand and even turkey & plant-based sausage. Zero, zip, zilch, nil, nada. I'm very grumpy this AM. |

Sausage and biscuit dough. So basically sausage biscuits. Brown the sausage up into crumbles and let cool and drain grease. Take can of biscuit dough and roll it out flat. It takes about 10min of working the dough to get it flat. It's like trying to roll flubber flat. The dough always pulls back or curls up and doesn't want to stay flattened. This is the part that is the PITA. After getting the dough flat-ish, spread the sausage crumbles evenly on the dough and roll it up in a big log. Hurry, because the dough is constantly contracting. You must be quick! Wrap it up in plastic or wax paper so the dough won't dry out and put in the fridge to chill a couple of hours. When ready to eat, slice off quarter-inch thick pieces and arrange on baking sheet. There should be a nice spiral of sausage and dough. One roll of sausage and 2 cans of dough make 2 logs. So you get to roll out the dough twice! The brand/type of dough you select and the sausage you pick have a profound impact on the taste. I've tried dozens of combos over the years. Unfortunately the pre-cooked sausage crumbles I tried were not so good, and the crumbles with bacon bits (which sounded awesome!) ended up being so nasty I couldn't eat them. |

I am still trying to sort out some stuff from an accident in September. We were rear-ended. Car has been repaired, and all that settled. We are now trying to get a diminished value payout. My insurance seemingly can't help file on my behalf. Okay I get that, so I submit a claim to their insurance which they deny because we have not actually sold the car. I try to reason with them that that's not how it works... nothing changes. I called my Lawyer and they say I am correct and to call a dealership to get the value difference in a letter.
Okay, so I call a dealer explain that I need a written appraisal or letter showing the difference with and without the accident. They say sure we can do that come on down. I get there and the salesperson does not understand what I want and gets an manager they say yes the car is worth about $3000 less. Great (sort of) can you print something out for me? No... Why not? They keep offering to print the kbb page, I say that's not going to help and again say i need something form them showing the difference. They stare at me blankly, wander off to discuss, come back with the ****ing kbb page printed off. This time they sat my keys on the desk, so I grabbed them and walked out. If they did not want to or couldn't do it I get that but don't tell me you can and waste mine any your time. |

The epitome of frustration: Trying to walk a non-technical, English-is-a-2nd-language user through connecting their new work laptop to their home network over the phone. You can only suggest to make absolutely sure the network key is correct so many times before you throw your phone against the wall.
'Is it case sensitive?' OMFG yes it is...!! |

Sounds interesting. I assume you bake the sliced spiral of sausage dough before eating? Like 350-400 until dough is browned kinda thing? |

Tik Tokers filming some stupid short video dance in public spaces.
We went to some row of houses lit up with a million Xmas lights, certainly impressive, and packed with people. It was slow and difficult to navigate, even more so with a stroller. Some girls in front of us take up the sidewalk to film something. At first I thought it was just a picture, but after waiting a few seconds and seeing this is a video I just walked through the frame. Wife was on the other side and they're still filming and I called her to walk through - she got mad at me. They had to be at it for a minute with no other way for people to get through. Am I just getting old, or is anyone else annoyed at people stopping other people so they can make a vapid video for their quest to popularity? |

Even if it's just a picture they shouldn't expect to stop traffic to take it. It's nice to accommodate people taking a photo but they need to be realistic about their surroundings and respect every other person in that space.

Yeah. I usually do them on 350 and I like them just barely done enough that its not dough anymore. And if they are still a little doughy, I'm okay with that.

Gripe: I'm old and grumpy
Yes, I started another new job (don't ask). While the overall vibe here is very positive and all the people I've interacted with so far have been genuinely nice, I'm mostly not into the posting "super funny" meme pictures in our Discord and on Teams. Or the "bruh" reaction emoji to said super funny pictures. Zander reacted with :Pepe_KEK: Yeah? Did Pepe the frog kek'ing accurately portray your reaction? I dunno, it's something I do NOT get. It's similar to when our younger friends feel compelled to show us hilarious internet pics or TikTok videos on their phones. I'm not 15 and showing me a picture you found on the internet is not that interesting or funny. |

When you're talking to a chat bot but then are transferred to a "real person" and you really can't tell that this person is any more real than the bot.

My 19 year old college freshman son has failed out of school in flying colors. He had a B and 4 Cs in late October, then a B, D+ and 3 Fs after midterm exams a month ago, and now ALL Fs. Yep, he pulled a Blutarsky, 0.0 GPA. After the midterm exams went so poorly he basically gave up. Which is his MO. He struggled with getting out of HS, but was dead set that college was his path based on what he wants to do with his life. Many hoops were jumped through and tons of $$ spent to even get him to college. And he bombed out spectacularly in 3 months. I am not all that surprised, which makes me feel like ****, but this is what he wanted. Hard lesson learned.

Changed my oil last week and noticed most of the plastic rivets holding all the plastic under cladding under the front end of my Accord were missing. Wonderful. Order a bag from Amazon, replace almost all of them, job more or less done.
Except for noticing the screw I just got in the outer tread block of one of my new-ish tires most likely picked up at our town's big-ass recycling center. I probably shouldn't plug it but I sure as hell don't want to replace two otherwise perfectly good tires, especially since a trip to the recycling center will continue to be a weekly occurrence. This sucks. |
