First off, yes, you have bumpstops. And it is hard to tell without knowing how much the springs lower the car whether or not you'll have to trim the bumpstops. My guess would be that it is a good idea if the springs lower the car any. I had to trim mine to about 1/3 of their original length for my GC/AGX suspension...

Anyways, it is really pretty simple - I've gotten this down to about 20 minutes per corner (could probably do it quicker if I really needed to).

First, you'll need a spring compressor - go to Trash Auto or equivalent, and ask to rent one - I just had to leave $40 with them, and I got all of it back when I brought back the tool. The spring compressor is like a threaded shaft with two nuts on it, each nut having an arm that holds onto a point on the coil.

Pick a corner to start with (I would get the fronts out of the way first myself), and jack up the corner and remove the wheel. You'll be looking directly at the strut/spring assembly behind the rotor/caliper. If you're doing the rear ones, you'll want to have the back seat out so you can get to the rear strut towers. Now affix the spring compressor to conveniently-accessible points on the spring, the top one as far up the spring as possible, the rear as far down the spring as possible. Then tighten up the compressor until the spring is deformed some (indicating that you have unloaded the spring). Now you will have to break free the two bolts that attach the strut body to the spindle, and the three bolts that hold the upper mount to the strut tower. Then the entire strut assembly with spring will come out with some careful movement to snake it between the suspension members and the frame.

Now, keeping the compressor in place, you'll have to undo the nut that holds the top hat onto the strut shaft. For the fronts, this can be a serious PITA, because the front upper mounts have a bearing inside that allows the strut shaft to rotate independently of the mount. For the fronts, you'll want to use an open-end wrench (I think it's 12mm but I can't be sure without looking) to hold the strut shaft stationary while you loosen the nut below (at the end of the shaft, two opposing sides of the shaft are flattened so you can hold it with the wrench). Once you get the top nut free, remove the upper mount, and carefully back off the spring compressor until the spring is unloaded. Then remove the compressor, and the spring will come off. Put on the new spring, affix the spring compressor if needed (I didn't because the ERS springs I have are only 8" long at rest), replace the upper mount, tighten down the top nut (torque it down pretty much as hard as you can - I doubt you can easily damage the threads on the shaft), and place the strut assembly with new spring back in position, reattach and tighten the two bottom bolts that hold the strut body to the spindle, do the same for the three nuts that hold the upper mount to the strut tower, undo the spring compressor carefully if you used it, and voila, short of an alignment (which you should do immediately after this), you are finished with that corner. Repeat for the other three...

Many people have said to wait a couple of days for the springs to settle before aligning.

Thanks for the clear and careful instructions. Someone else needs to add some pictures to this and save it in a permanent location. This would be at least the 3rd description of this mod I have seen.
