I was pleasantly surprised that even though I haven't swung a club since Nov, and my right calf was injured (again...yay scar tissue) my swing speeds were decent. Just under 100mph for the hybrid, just over 100 for the 3 wood, and 105-ish for the driver. Once I get swinging more I'll probably settle into around 107 for the driver, and possibly even more if I can keep working out/running.

Oh yeah, so I was hitting my driver and seeing I was launching it way too high (17' launch angle w/ an attack angle of 4'+). I have had my driver set at 10' (Callaway Epic Sub Zero w/ 2 different size weights front & back) and the heavier weight in the back. I went on ahead and dropped my driver way down to 8' and flipped the heavier weight to the front. It did a little bit in terms of lowering my launch angle (but only like by a degree or so), but it was going a bit further. I'll see how that shakes out. Obviously most of that is the way I swing, but I'm sure the club/shaft do contribute a little bit.

Very much looking forward to clean my palette of the CBS Pebble Beach broadcast with the Genesis/Riviera broadcast starting on Thu...unfortunately it's still CBS, but it won't be nearly as awful as last week, and Tiger is back. Trying to figure out if I wanna pony up the cash for a PGA Tour Live membership this year or not...I was hoping that by holding out a little bit, that they'd send me a discount code...not the case

I could be wrong but I don't think they have discounted it in the past. At least not that I have seen.

I am also trying to figure out if I want to renew my membership as well. I really only use it to watch Tiger during the week and I typically stream it in the background while I work. With him playing so infrequently, I am not sure it's worth it anymore. I barely used it last year.

The majors will have him on their own streaming sites and he's typically a featured group on all of them.

They used to have the pricing at $45/yr if you bought it early, but I completely ignored it last season and it just automatically renewed at that $45 when the regular price was higher (even though I unchecked the automatic renewal price, go figure).

This season is $65 and there was no discount to renewing early (or else I would have done it). That being said, I did it the last 2 seasons on the NBCSN app (which is 100% complete garbage), so I'm gonna do it via Amazon Prime.

Picked up my new iron set yesterday. Now I’m done ‘updating’ my bag (hopefully) for another couple years. Can’t wait to get out and wack these things.

Noice.

Hit a bucket last night and having trouble hitting up on the ball while keeping my shoulders tilted through impact with my driver. Good contact equaled low ball flight. I was hitting the ball better standing more upright over the last few weeks but can't keep my head/chin off my shoulder without leaning forward more to get my shoulders tilted. This only seems to be an issue with my driver for some reason. Probably the length of the club.

New chipping technique has been awesome. Feeling much more confident with lower/longer chips and even holed a few really long ones.

Oh those are making me jealous! What shafts did you go with?

Tiger is off to a sizzling hot front 9. Riviera is an awesome course.

Just plain ol’ Project X 6.0s. Got the steels in my irons and wedges and black graphite in my hybrids and the blue graphite in my tree wood.

Played pretty well over the weekend and a couple of extra days off and practice have helped. 71 on two different executives. 13/15 over and had fun. Hit my best drive ever and made par on a par 4 that I normally bogey which felt great.

I bought a Clicgear 3.5 since I am going to walk more. Super nice construction and storage versus my old cart I bought from Craigslist. I also started a golf related core workout to try and improve my posture as my back tends to tighten up. One workout and my back already feels better. My bad shoulder also needs some tightening up, so it was overdue. I don't like the gym but I will go if it helps my game.

Awesome! I used mine yesterday as well. This is a MUST for it:

Clicgear Push Cart Insulated Cooler Bag https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IRWND66..._eUTsEb43QXECH

Played a Par 70, shorter course that I love yesterday. Shot -1 on the back and posted a 73. Had a stupid double on a short par 3 on the front.

Oh that looks nice. Do you ever catch flak from the course for it? I wouldn't want to get one and then have someone tell me I can't use it.

My bag has a cooler pocket that I usually carry 2-3 beers in. I also got one of these at a tradeshow a couple of weeks ago and it will keep your beer cold for over an hour.

You can put a 12 oz with the riser/cooler "puck" or a tall can in it.

Never had an issue. It's pretty subtle. I fit 6 16oz Coors Lites with ice in the big part and some ice, a banana and a pb&j in the top part. Good for 18!

*like*

I have a skinny cooler that fits inside my bag that's good for a 6er of tall boys if needed (it's always needed) if you're subtle and buy a beer in the clubhouse or something nobody really cares. I do always get a laugh at looking at the open wire trashcans around the course if I play early on weekends (so they haven't had time to pick them up yet from the previous day) and see all kinds of stuff that the course definitely doesn't sell...empty 5ths of Fireball or Jack, 24oz cans of Natty Ice, etc

Maybe I'll check it out for Summer. I usually just bring a couple 805s or Buds my bag cooler pocket so I don't end up playing like crap.

Forgot I also played with my new Jaws wedges for the first time. Holy crap. The spin!!

Went to a 56* as my highest loft and had no problems getting up and over trees/out of traps with it opened up.

My lessons last night was about getting back to basics. I was so caught up keeping my swing path, arms straight and hands low that I was forgetting to turn my hips and move laterally. Going to the range tonight to try and drill some of the feels back into my swing as it was causing me to lose distance. Overall, I was still hitting the ball straighter over the last few months, but definitely losing distance. I was hitting my hybrids and 5 iron last night longer than ever, so I am hoping this is New Swing 2.0 time. I have 5 lessons remaining and it's been a huge transformation of my swing. I am going to save the remaining lessons for my short game once the time changes and there's more daylight.

I ordered a Taylormade Mini Driver from eBay for a killer price $180 shipped w/head cover and tool. It seems like a perfect club for the narrow executive fairways.

I've never hit those mini-drivers (well, since companies all went to above 400cc's), but I love hitting 3 woods so I think I would agree with those. This got me thinking on what drivers did I own between my OG fav (Callaway Great Big Bertha) and my current gamer (Epic Sub Zero). I didn't have any problem playing a smaller driver...I think after my GBB it went like this:
1.) Taylormade Burner Bubble but with a steel shaft...that thing went nowhere, and slowly
2.) Titleist 975D that I couldn't hit because of the shaft
3.) Taylormade 510 (had the plastic-y rubber part in the back that would fall out a couple times a round
4.) Titleist 905R that was probably the best looking driver
5.) Taylormade R11s (first driver I was ever fit for)
6.) Taylormade R15 TP
7.) Callaway Epic SZ

On a different, more current note...I noticed on anything past my wedges, that I'm tending to not hit down on the ball very well. My angle of attack on like a 5 iron is barely negative. So yeah, I tend to be a sweeper, but I think I could gain a lot more consistency by getting my swing/setup changed around to hit down on the ball more effectively. This also would include my hybrid/3 wood/driver, as my driver AOA is WAY too high, and I'm losing distance because of it.

When making swing changes and practicing it's definitely easy to lose track or forget the stuff you actually do right, like turning your hips. So much going on and to think about, sometimes its just the basics. Good luck Johnnyb

Same, I am a sweeper for the most part. I think it's from hitting off hard mats and the fact that the ground out here is usually just harder and drier ijn general.

However, the drill I was doing last night definitely helped with more shoulder tilt and improved my hip movement and follow through, just put an alignment stick off your back foot at 45*. Try to match your lead arm to the stick as it promotes more tilt and forces you to swing inside to out and rotate more.

Like pictured here, but stick was coming off the toe of my rear foot.

Yep. It was a super productive lesson and nice to be able to know something was way off and focus on it. Correcting it felt weird but also made me realize my feet have been a little too far apart so it was harder to turn. I was almost dragging my rear foot when I followed through.

haha I love and hate new wedges. It's fun watching them peel back on greens when you have fresh grooves but it also gets too hard to control for me on those 100 yard shots...

They are perfect to me after a half dozen or so rounds.

So I have the opposite problem. I tend to be a big digger and have a negative angle of attack. I've really worked on this over the years. With wedges, sometimes I find I am not compressing it enough (seemingly out of nowhere) and the ball goes nowhere.

The fix for me when this starts happening is as simple as checking how wide my stance is and where the ball position is. I actually widen my stance a little with my wedges to promote the compression I am looking for and then have a little more narrow stance with my irons to promote a more sweeping motion. This of course is only when taking full/fullish swings with wedges.

Thanks for that article, JohnnyB, I know that'll help me from my tendency to stand up on my shots and really fight following through.

I also think I've gotten more sweepy because of practicing too much off of mats. Gotta keep that in mind once I can finally go outside and practice.

Yeah, it's weird. Everything looks good for me on camera until mid downswing and then I come over the top and leading with my hands instead of turning.

I wish there was a golf "mech-suit" I could put on to get the feels and positioning.
