I do recall playing like crap after the courses reopened and not giving a five about how bad I played. Just nice to be out again! Hell, I still appreciate golf since there's not much else for me to do these days.

Played the hardest course around (Crossings in Carlsbad) and was going tee to green pretty well, but 3 and 4 putted too many times. Usually I can lean on my putting to save strokes, but the pin placement and ridges on the greens (like you see in the British open/links courses) were just killing me. I did sink a nice 40 footer on an upper back tier of the green and a couple of other one-putts but man, it was the worst day of putting... maybe ever.

Played a new to me course called Arrowood on Saturday. I'm pretty sure Badler recommended it last year but never made it there until now. Super nice course and I'll be going back. Made a nice 60 foot chip in birdie on the 1st, and putting was night and day better than Thursday.
I gotta say, I 100% play better without a few of my friends. They have a low bar for what they consider etiquette around the tees and pace of play. Once they left on the 14th (after starting an argument with the group behind us) I made a few pars and only bogeys to finish out the round but they ruined a good part of the round. I really just play better with randoms when I focus more on golf and less on the noise. I did break 90 with one of them present last year but he was behaving since one my older relatives was playing with us. All of that aside, I'm making way better contact with my irons and hitting my 3 wood and hybrids off better. I think my #1 thing is rushing my downswing which moves my head off the ball. The dreaded shanks are almost gone and I'm way more motivated to play again |

Sounds like you're figuring it out.
Golf seems to reward a certain kind of Zen. |

He didn't say blood was spilled so, I ignored it.

One person in their group yelled "hurry up" to our group (we were waiting on the group in front of us most of the day) and my one friend who is 6'6" wanted to make a thing out of it so he waited for them to catch up to us, asked who said it and flex on them yadayadayada. Then the big guy and another guy from our group had to leave. Like hey, thanks for starting that and leaving us. The following group caught up to us later and was cool and didn't really care, it was just a dumb thing to do that could have gone poorly.

Kidding though, glad it wasn't something horrible. |

I got a new (to me) driver today.
Hit one from the back yard to the green (110 to pin) with a 1/3 swing this is gonna be sweet. I also grabbed clubs for relatively cheap for wifey on eBay king cobra oversize irons and woods. Good enough to learn on for sure. |

I had a lesson last week and have been working on a few things since then.
My weight transition has gotten off so he's got me working on that. He gave me a homemade balance board to help me feel how that should be happening as I take practice swings. On the range I am working on an exaggerated step forward with my left foot as I make contact to help me feel that move forward more instead of hanging back through the ball. It's helping slowly. Not sure how I got so off with this transition, but that was definitely my problem of late. I also got an Orange Whip to help with it all; weight transfer, flexibility, wrist action, etc. I am liking that so far. I am playing at my old course on Saturday morning. First time playing somewhere that isn't my club in a very long time. I am looking forward to that. |

Played Arrowood course again. Shot a 95 for the second time playing there. A couple of bad tee shots and thin chips, but otherwise a good amount of pars with my putting saving the day. I think I figured out my 3 wood a little better as I didn't top or thin it once.
I'm going back again this Sunday and probably playing there as much as I can before the weather is in the 80s and 90s. It's been really cool along the coast this season but that usually changes in one week from 60s and 70s to 80s and 90s. |

Cool story to share:
My buddy aced a 330 yard par 4 on Sunday. He was playing in a 4 ball match. It's a narrow hole that goes up and over a hill and slopes down to the green that is protected by many bunkers. He bombs his drive and the 4 in his group can't find it. They assumed it had gone into the creek right of the path near the green, so they drop and chip on to the green. The team they are playing makes about an 8 foot putt for what they think is winning the hole and discovers another ball in the hole. My buddies original ball! First time the hole had ever been aced since the course was opened. Pretty damn cool. They did win the match. It cost him an $1100 bar bill though. |

Shot a 93 at Arrowood with my brothers and cousin yesterday. We started on the 10th, and the first 9 holes were pretty rough with a 51 but then managed a 42 on the back. I could not get my brain to shut up when teeing off but I think I averaged probably 1.5 putts, so the short game really saved my round. I was getting my wedges really close to the hole and one-putting. Just a few more good tee shots and one less water ball I would have been well under 90. Had a blast joking around and then we had dinner at the clubhouse afterwards, so it was one of my favorite rounds in a while.

I kinda like starting on ten. Especially when it avoids slow play.
It's like cutting in food line at school, cause ain't nobody got time for milk. |

I played 72 holes in 3 days this weekend and it was awesome. 36 Saturday in amazing weather was the tits. My wife was out of town, so I spent pretty much every waking moment on the golf course or at the 19th hole/patio. The swing is slowly getting back to what I'd call normal.
For the weekend I shot 88/83/85/86 with yesterday being a full stroke play event. Watching the leaderboard was interesting in that you could definitely tell who doesn't hole all putts normally, and is used to only having to post net double bogey. Some BIG numbers for some really good players. |

Anyone here a size 9 1/2 and interested in these? FootJoy Flex Ryder Cup LE.
Brand New other than me briefly trying them on to see if they'd fit my size 10 foot. They don't. |

Do golf shoes really make a big difference? I just wear trail runners for comfort and don’t feel like there will be any grip benefit?

Edit: when the spikeless wear down, they are only good for the range mats at that point. New, they are great. Last edited by johnnyb; 05-17-2021 at 09:24 PM. |
