How was the WMO?

Also, got my shipment notification for my SIM hybrid. Should have it by Thu at the latest. My credit card still hasn't been charged.

I just bought a G410 #4 hybrid since the #3 has been working so well for me. I love that club.

The WMO is an interesting experience LOL. It felt more infield at the Indy 500 or Daytona 500 than it did PGA Tour event. It's kind of a mix of a major outdoor festival, college frat party with a side dish of a professional sporting event. It's significantly more loud and chaotic in person than it looks on TV. At times, it's sensory overload.

We had GA tickets and I wasn't about to stand in a multiple hour line to get in the bleachers on 16. We walked over there and hung between the 17 tee and back side of the bleachers on 16 green and it pure chaos lol. We stood there talking to my buddy who was in town for maybe 25 minutes. Incredible people watching.

We walked much of the back 9 and half of the front. The front side felt more like a normal golf event while each hole on the back 9 builds in energy until you hit 16-17-18. I've always seen the grand stands on 16-17-18 from the road driving to the other course... in person they really are breath taking. They are huge. I gained an appreciation for the commentators saying it must feel like how it felt walking into the Coliseum. That's the only way to really describe it. The grandstand are at times 3+ stories high lining both sides on 16, 17 and 18. It's a really weird juxtaposition seeing it up close.

We sat in the grandstands on the 17 green for a long time. I found it nearly impossible to actually watch golf and spent the afternoon people watching, listening and taking it all in lol.

It wasn't my cup of tea, I'm more of a Memorial Tournament type of dude (I'm not some stiff either, im a 33 year old who went to a party school and still likes to have fun, sans alcohol due to a medical issue, but either way). I would never pay for passes, it wouldn't be worth it to me.

Couple of random observations:
1 - The patrons yelling the most inappropriate things at the most obnoxious times were actually Boomers and not drunk college kids... like without fail when someone dropped a loud F bomb or a 'you suck' (which there were a ton of) it was always a 50+ year old drunk dude trying to be cool.

2 - If any one event made someone hate an entire generation of people, seeing what has become of the WMO in a vacuum could make you hate my entire generation of millennials. So many selfies, so many hashtags, most people drunk and buried in their phones.

3 - I'm still trying to figure out why the WMO morphed into a costume party. Seriously, I wore a T shirt, which I normally wouldn't even do to a golf event but figured its the WMO, and I was probably the best dressed dude there lol. Lots of Hawaiian shirts and hats... crazy costumes everywhere.

4 - The Lyft/Uber situation is a mess

I couldn't even fathom going to that event. We're chatting about hitting up the Celebrity event in Tahoe this summer, and not even the weekend. Going for Thursday, when things are "quiet."

Found an interesting article on the SIMs Rescues that were put into play last and this week... basically: pros don't hybrid, until now. At least, these past couple weeks. We'll see if they move forward with them in their bags over the next few weeks, or if they go back to their irons. GolfWRX has always had an inside track to Wayne and the TM truck (which I spent over an hour on/with in '11) as they like the tinkering/details more than the "shiny thing".

http://www.golfwrx.com/591714/the-in...escue-on-tour/

And for tinkerers like me, they were playing the off the shelf (*probably carefully handpicked) versions, not the customisable ones.

When TM came out with the RBZ in '11, it was a leap in capability for the hybrid market, but not many pros played them. The new SIM is the next leap it appears.

I saw enough tweets/instagram posts making fun of various people at that event to keep me amused for quite some time. LOTS of super turbo drunk people, and plenty of cute but incredibly vapid and self-important girls doing all sorts of stupid poses and whatnot for social media. So, pretty much the norm

So my new SIM hybrid is out for delivery today, so I'm excited about that...there still isn't a charge on my credit card for it; which is really strange. I suppose I'll figure out the NASIOC pic hosting and get some of those up later today.

Off to search for the #WMO hashtag...

Yeah, not sure I'd enjoy that either other than the people watching. Looked amazing on TV from afar though.

I took advantage of the warm, dry weather yesterday and walked 9 before dark last night. Sunset was at 5:35 and I finished just in time. Had two birdies, but also two 3 putt bogies and shot 2 over. Unfortunately I think the weather and work travel are going to make any golf impossible between now and my Myrtle trip in 2 weeks.

And to me, this may be worth the price of admission. "The greatest show on turf" isn't the players... lol.

I'd love to go and report just on the social aspect of the event for some golf forum/blog. Finish it up with "oh, and some golf happened and someone won."

haha yes. We did have fun and I was glad I went. It's a truly unique experience. It really did feel even bigger and more chaotic in person than it shows on TV. I feel like most of the time I end up seeing big events in person, they feel smaller or not as cool in person. The WMO lives up to the hype.

I've been to a few PGA events, including the Championship, worked a couple (Deutchebank at TPC Boston), and going in person is just as quiet as a normal round one would play and expect to see on the course, except for the cheering/clapping of that awesome shot/putt when then actually make it or put it close. Will also be working the Sr Open this year at Newport CC.

I have to imagine that WMO is quite different.

Played a little better on Sunday at the executive pre Superbowl. No range or warmup after being out of town on business all week. I got out of the bunker twice and actually put it close to the pin each time. It was slightly better than bogey golf (which was my average in the summer) but my shoulder started hurting at the end. Going to practice with my 50-70 yard wedge shots and chipping at the night range tonight as it's been the worst part of my game lately.

Once it's sunny after work and I can get in 4-5 practice/play days a week, it's going to be on. My tee shots are much better than they were six months ago and I'm not as prone to slicing. I'll still fade it with the driver but now I know only to use the driver when I need to.

I got a new driver last year but I’m going to hit the SiM when the fitting cart comes around. I love the look.

Decided I wanted that indoor Trackman session today. I haven't swung a club since November, but it went well. I don't think my irons are properly fit to me anymore (got them fitted like 4-5 years ago?). I might do an iron fitting just to see, and to try out all of the new stuff. So I love the new SIM hybrid. The feel is sublime. This pic of the shot I had was probably the best overall (not the furthest, but definitely the best combo of line and shot shape and length). I could move it to 240 on a really hard one but then it starts to get a little pulley-left.

Played this past Monday for the first time of the year. Shot an 88 with 3 doubles to start. Blocked a drive way right to start and hacked it around the rest of the hole. Hit a really good drive on the second but they had the tee boxes up about 30yds from normal which I didn't take into consideration and put one in the drink. Par 3 after it plugged one into the trap and took 2 shots to get out. Played the next 15 holes at 10 over which was nice. My wedges from 120 and in were really solid.

Myself and 3 buddies have been doing an indoor golf place by us every Sunday all winter so that's definitely been helpful. It's been great having the trackman for stats and getting to play 18 holes. Costs $25 a guy for 3 hours and we get about 20 holes in. Having a flat screen, a few recliners and it's BYOB is a nice bonus too.

I would like to check the Sim out myself. Could really use a 3 hybrid but I think a putter might come first. My 2 ball is 16 years old and about 2" to short at this point. The selection of lefty putters at most places suck so it's hard to get to try a few different ones.

Walked 12 holes with a buddy yesterday who isn't a long hitter, so I left the driver at home. Longest club was my Taylormade M1 3 high loft, cranked up to 19-degrees. But it was also the first time I've played my set of Ginty woods. Tagged as 3hy, 5hy, 7hy, and 9hy in the stats. Ginty is often credited as being the first utility or hybrid style club, from the early 1970s. This was also only the second round I've played a longer "normal course" using my Arccos sensors, as I normally play a small 6-hole executive par 3 course.

Anyways, it was fun playing a bit more strategic. I was picking clubs to better setup my approach shot, versus just trying to get the most distance off the tee.

I've also been able to hit enough shots with each club to finally accrue some club data stats. While the 3 and 5 Gintys didn't carry far, the sure rolled out nicely. One of my shots off the tee rolled out to 217yds.

I need to figure out a way play Pebble in the next few years.

And I will be 5 miles from Torrey Pines next week for work, but there won't be enough daylight left by the time I get there Monday. Why the hell didn't I schedule this trip for later in the year!?

That sucks. You have to start at about 1:00 to finish a full 18 before dark right now.

I practiced chipping, putting and bunker shots on Friday for about three hours and then hit a bucket. Chipping with the new wedges felt great with a change in technique so I hope it works out on the course. I also felt a lot better driving the ball. Immediately after a head cold set in so I had to cancel my Saturday tee time. I was pretty tight Saturday morning, so whatever
