Thanks.
So recently I've noticed the brakes getting a bit spongy. A bit too early to do pads I thought. During the last service, I checked out the brakes while doing the tire rotation and the pads were fine, but the 18 year old rubber lines looked to be the culprit. So I put in an order for Project ***956; stainless lines. They should be by the end of the month. But the fluid and bleeder tool will here this evening. The wife couldn't complain about car parts because it's safety related, so I figured while I have her good graces I'll sneak in a bit of an upgrade and replace the brake fluid. |

The brake lines arrived much earlier than expected
Going to see if I can make time tomorrow to throw them on. Untitled by Lino Palatino, on Flickr |

Yesterday I swapped out the old rubber brake hoses for the shiny new Project ***956; ones and replaced the old fluid while I was in there.
The pedal felt great on the drive to work this morning, so I guess I was able to get all the air out of system. It was my first time using a pneumatic brake bleeder, so I wasn't sure. But using one of those is the way to go. |

The next project came in today.
Saito Rollcage finished it much quicker than I expected. |

Had a chance to remove some trim and shave the b pillar trim to make room for the brace connecting the main hoop to the b pillar. Had to shave off about 7cm.
If the weather cooperates, I should be able to have everything installed by Thursday. |

I’ve been stuck into it for the past two days. Everything gets finished up tomorrow.
A spreader bar I made up to help fit things more easily. About a meter or so of padding left over. |

Yesterday’s progress was pretty good.
This last bar was a pita to get in, but I got it using a ratchet strap and flathead screwdriver to pry it in place. Extremely happy with the a pillar fitment. |

On the home stretch. Just going to neaten up the wiring for the gauges I put in while I’m in here.
Had to cut into the air duct for the driver’s vent. Stuffed in this flexible hose so I don’t lose the vent’s functionality. That was all I had time for today before the rain came. |

Had time to put on this Cusco brake master cylinder stopper, a nice little Father's Day present.

Made an order with Do-Luck and got a carbon trunk on the way.
Hopefully next year I'll complete the set with the bumpers and skirts. |

How much of a difference does a Cusco brake master cylinder stopper make?

I’ve noticed a difference under hard braking, not so much during normal driving. The pedal doesn’t have any give to it like it used to. Honestly, if you’re not doing autocross or tracking the car, I wouldn’t really bother with it.

Curious to know how the bars behind the front seats work - is the transmission tunnel reinforced where they attach to it?

The tunnel itself isn’t reinforced. If you look closely, the gold mounting plate is bolted to a black u-shaped bracket which sits over the tunnel and connects both sides and I guess would act like a reinforcement. The u-shaped bracket does bolt onto the tunnel, though you do need to drill two holes through to mount it.
Edit: there’s a good picture on page 9 (on my phone anyway) showing what it looks like. Last edited by Kochi_STi; 08-15-2020 at 02:11 AM. |

It was a Do-Luck kind of morning.
Still needs some tweaking. |

That’s a bit closer.
Next I’ll remake the rod that connects the key and latch. I’d rather make one that clears the trunk lid than cut it. |

I don't get jealous often, but that roll cage I am jealous of! What do they run, if you don't mind me being nosey?

I opted for a rear roof bar, pillar braces (bolt into the front seatbelt adjuster). They also do the around-dash type, but I don't like how that looks. Saito Rollcage had more options, but I figured any more bars would be a nuisance on a daily driver. |

Thanks. After living with it for about 6 months, I think so to. The only thing to do is make up a couple of brackets to fit the sun visors to the cage and it really will be perfect for my needs.
