Operation Fast Forester—800hp daily
Now seems like a good place to start documenting my build on here. I've been gathering parts for the past year or two and I finally got my motor back. Here we go.
This starts 5 years ago with me buying a 1999 Subaru Forester that was FULLY 07 Sti swapped-motor, transmission, brakes, suspension, interior including dash, etc etc. Basically everything but the shell. The oem ej257 blew a year later and the car sat since then. I'm finally giving it the rebuild it deserves, some stuff I've been planning for 10-15 years...

I put stiffer struts/springs in the rear and lifted my daily a bit specifically for this reason. Box barelllllllllly fit but it fit. Didn't scrape once on the way home either.

I bought this longblock in absolutely destroyed condition back in early March. My dog and I drove 10 hours to pull it out of a car on a loose gravel driveway, stuffed it into the back of my Forester, then drove another 4 hours to drop it off at IAG for a full inspection and potential rebuild if it wasn't too messed up.
After a month or two and a 10 page report, IAG got back to me and told me it was save-able with a little love and a lot of money. Fast forward to a few days ago, I picked it up and here it is. IAG stage 4 extreme block with IAG stage 5 heads. |

I was going to say, I have a turbo SF hood that I can sell, but looks like you already have one! I can’t wait to see what else you do to this car.

Is your hood white? The one on the car is a jank cut oem hood with a scoop bolted to it. I have a jdm white hood sitting in my parts hood to replace this jank one but even my jdm hood isn’t in the best condition. How’s your hood? Have anything else for me haha? Was thinking about going carbon fiber hood but only if I can find a company to make me a matching hatch and possibly roof... |

Quick 20 hour round trip back to IAG to grab my Killer B oil pan, baffle, and pickup, fluidampr crank pulley, and a few other parts. Halfway on my way home I decided I want to put a brand new oil pan setup and brand new crank pulley on my engine instead of my slightly used stuff.
I was wondering what everyone/anyone's opinion on oil pan setups? Which should I grab? Also which crank pulley? Here are some pictures from the trip. |

My opinions are for entertainment purposes only. The pan itself? It's a bucket to hold oil. They're all going to function similarly. I'm not a fan of the IAG windage tray with the flappers; it's one of those features that seems cool, but adding complexity & moving parts there seems a bad idea unless you're going to be in the pan regularly to check for failures. I'd say the IAG and KB pickups are essentially the same too, but I'd favor the KB version. IAG got their version by buying out Tigwerks' and I'm not down with how that went. I've heard good things about the fluidampr crank pulley but have only used the OEM version. I'd stay away from any lightened pulleys. Looking forward to more updates! |

While people all seem to have their preferences you probably can't go wrong with either. The ATI is almost 1 lb lighter than the Fluidamper and is also rebuildable. However some people consider the rebuildable part to be a negative. Why not just ask IAG what they recommend and do that?
