Time Out Of Use: will take 3 days to repair

Problem And Likely Cause: Paint on drivers side a pillar is bubbling up. One dealer said it was likely that the windshield was replaced and wasn't sealed correctly so water got under the seal and caused rust under the paint. The dealer I bought it from said the windshield was not replaced by them and I never had the windshield replaced. I am the first owner of the vehicle.

Modifications: none

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): Yes

Reason Given For Denial: Will be fixed under warranty

Your Story: I noticed the paint was bubbling on the A pillar so I had a dealer look at it while it was in for other work. They said it was rusting underneath the paint, probably from when the windshield was replaced and it wasn't sealed correctly. The dealer I bought it from said they had not replaced the WS prior to me buying the car. First they said they would have to have the regional SOA rep look at the paint, but later said it would be covered under the paint warranty.

Problem And Likely Cause: Rear Bumper molding broken at attachment points

Modifications: None

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): Yes

Reason Given For Denial: No covered, could have been caused by another party.

Your Story: When the car was delivered there were scratch marks on the plastic trim over the rear wheel. I asked for it to be replaced and it was. 2 months later I notice the bumper has a bit of a gap on that side. Check it out and all the clip points are broken on that side and the first one where it attaches to the piece they replaced is completly broken and had been held together with a small screw. Looks like they either broke the clips when they pulled the bumper back to replace the part or it was broken at the same time and they just put it back together the easiest way possible.

They claim that it was done when the winter tires were put on last week. This is possible but what is the chance that they broke the trim on the same wheel out of the four that the dealer replaced the trim on. Also there were no marks on the inside of the trim like it had been caught by a tire being pulled off.

Before denying they had me go to their local body shop and let them look at this (they are the ones that found the screw) and see if they could "patch it up" The body shop said they would if instructed to by Subaru although they would not recommend that, but that was all they could do if subaru instructed them to.

Make: 2007 WRX Sedan

Mileage: 500 (Had the car 4 days!)

Time Out Of Use: None

Problem And Likely Cause: Windshield is cracked straight down the center under the auto-dimming mirror and home-link system, starting under the rubber molding.

Modifications: 18"Prodive, Injen CAI, Invidia Catback

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): Yes

Reason Given For Denial: Was told by dealer that it looked like a rock had hit molding and started the crack under the windshield. (In the state of Florida if the crack is bigger than a dollar it will be replaced at no fee.) Was told to use this avenue to have repairs done.

Your Story: Thought I had a bumper to bumper warranty! No matter how it may have or have not gotten cracked, why should I have to go through my insurance company. Have not contacted SOA, but its sad that I only had the car for a few days. After owning 2 Outbacks, 3 WRX's and owning 3 of them at one time, Subaru's service is suspect and I hate say thus will be my last vehicle no matter how good the 08 STI may turn out to look.

There is one way to find out if it was indeed caused by a crack. Take a very fine tipped pen and run it along the crack. If it stops, the crack started by a chip. That is not covered under warranty, that falls under your insurance. AND, if you have full coverage, which you should on a new car, it is covered with no deductible and will cause you nothing.

If it is indeed a stress crack, the person who installs the glass will be able to tell you

Don't be afraid to turn it into your insurance. It won't count against you.

NO manufacturer covers winshields that are chipped, resulting in a crack. Stress cracks are very rare.

so if your car got hit by a rock (which is very very common over here in az), u think your Warranty (covers manufacturer defects only) should cover it???

wonder what your would think if you got rear ended and your bumper got damaged.

I will give that a try, but the crack started under the black molding around the windshield directly in the center where the mirror and power wires are. There are no chips in the glass, but the salesman said, "That it looked like there something might have hit the molding." I suspect that it could have been done in shipping or at the factory and then from driving it could have made it run. My main concern is, that it's a new car and by replacing the windshield the chances of more damage or improper installation my occur. So right now I'm enjoying my new car, but I ain't happy about the crack!

To start off there is no proof that the car was hit by a rock, like I said it started under the black molding that surrounds the glass. I ain't dumb, if the car was hit by a rock that is fine, that is a road hazzard that we all face everyday. If I was rear ended Y would it be under warranty? It's attitudes just like that makes me wonder when I have 75,000 bucks worth of Subaru cars in my garage why should I buy another?

Treat people with respect, we are all just looking for a little insight and resolution. Where does Subaru get these guyz?

Are you sure that is where it started, and not where it stopped? Like I stated before, the windshield guy will be able to tell if it was caused by a chip or of it was a stress crack.

Contact the dealership and see who they have install windshields. Go thru them....make the appointment and tell them that if the windshield is caused by a stress crack, then you want it covered under warranty

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): Yes

Reason Given For Denial: Told that it had to have been from tree sap or from chemicals in the air.

Your Story: This is a little old in getting on here but I originally brought this to the attention of Subaru when it was still under warranty. The paint started to get a bubling appearance. Subaru told me it was from tree sap or chemicals in the air that caused it. Tree sap???? Come on. It was occuring over the entire car. This was back in 02 that I told them. Here it is now 07 and I only have about 60000 miles on the car and the paint is peeling off of the front grill.

Problem And Likely Cause: Windshield cracked in the middle starting from the top under rubber molding (right on top of rear-view mirrorm has compass and auto-dim). Made a J-type design. I was ok with it, then it started to spread.

Modifications: Stock

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): Yes

Reason Given For Denial: Was told a rock had hit at the very top right below the rubber molding (using ball-point pen trick), so i lifted the rubber molding and showed them it went deeper and the pen was catching. So they decided to cover it under warranty.

Your Story: Woke up one day and saw the crack, wasnt bothered by the first J-type look, but it grew worst so i decided to bring it in.

Problem And Likely Cause: Both taillights have water and dirt accumulating around top and inner edges - upper edge of taillamp under quarter has raised lip that is not sealed to housing.

Modifications: Lots!!! , but none related to the taillamps

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): YES

Reason Given For Denial: N/A

Your Story: Dealer could not compare to other cars on lot however water and dirt accumulation visibly apparent and thus ordered two taillamps under warranty. I brought in both of the old lamps and they gave me the new ones so I could reinstall myself.

--------

To Suby Doo Who: I have the same problem with my factory wheels where the center caps are. The wheels have been on the car since it's build date of 2/2006. This looks as if the clearcoat/finish where the center caps sit is inadequate thus allowing for oxidation AND it also looks as if there is a bit of galvanic reaction due to the fact that the rotors are steel so water + steel = rust + aluminum should equal some kind of reaction.

Time to get a lawyer! You might want to read the warranty to see if there is any corrosion guarantee. Even if there isn't it sounds like you have a pretty good case. Be sure if you sue to tack on lawyer fees and any time lost.

Did they happen to mention if the oak was one of those acid spitting types?
Totally ridiculous.

Good luck.

Problem And Likely Cause: Stock Enkei wheels have spots on the spokes where the clearcoat is so thin it has wore off and caused the paint to wear off the wheels exposing the black primer coat. This has happened on all 4 of my wheels. Likely cause is a manufacture defect. The wheels were not properly painted and clearcoted. See pictures attached below.

Modifications: None.

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): Yes

Reason Given For Denial: No denial. SOA agreed to replace all my wheels.

Your Story: My local dealer agreed it should be a warranty issue for replacement but was not able to authorize the repair. A rep. had to come out and look over the wheels. The rep was a really nice guy and agreed to have all the wheels replaced. I'm sure they will keep the defective wheels for closer inspection from Enkei.

Angry chipping and/or soft paint

I have just purchased (January) a 2008 Subaru sports hatch and have the specialist coating applied to help keep the finish. We are finding that the paint is chipping with normal motorway use. No unsealed roads use. The bonnet is also getting areas of what could be disscribed as as water marks. The dealer says that the chips are normal wear and tear. We have had cars for years and never had this problem, I still have a Mazda 2 use the same way and four years old without a mark on it. Does anyone have any comments?

Your Story: Was one of those really hot days, dropping 25F overnight, then +30F the next day. Came out to a crack starting above the mirror on the driver's side and curving around the rear view mirror. Took 4 months due to Subaru changing their policy and not notifying the dealer (filed wrong 2 times), no one taking responsibility at Subaru by saying "it's not my job, you need to contact "X" instead." After calling Subaru 3 times and showing up every day after the first 1.5 months at the dealer I finally called Subaru giving a 15 minute explanation of the runaround I got and said I'll do anything short of paying for it myself to get fixed now and what I should do. 15 minutes later my warranty work was approved and the windshield was to be shipped the next day.

Your Story: While washing the car I notice 3 spots on the roof that appear to be clear coat cracks. Why they are only on the roof and not anywhere else puzzles me. I only wash/dry/wax by hand, no pressure washing. There is also paint missing from the front driver's fender in a really weird spot where the bumper cover and fender meets. It would take a miracle for a rock to hit it and based on the sliver-like shape and pencil thickness in size for this to happen. I know the low chances I have for Subaru to take responsibility, but I'll give it a shot.

I have those little cracks in the clearcoat too, looks almost like a cat paw. Its on the top of the trunklid. Funny story is I've seen it on BOTH trunklids I've had, both the OEM winged one and the wingless one I swapped on. Havent done any scratch removal/polishing yet tho.
My car also has heavy water spotting on the windshield and rear glass. Will do some glass scrubbing this weekend with this stuff I picked up from Kragen.

Your Story: I drive both my 2008 Honda Accord and 2007 Subaru STI back and forth to work. Some how my STI is the only vehicle in my driveway with numerous rock chips. I live and drive a a pretty clean area (no construction/ debris on the road). Filling in the chips with Subaru's factory touch up paint, I noticed how thin the layer of paint there was on my STI. Leaves me wondering what kind of method Subaru uses to paint their vehicles. (cheap)

Default Paint Defect -- 2006 Subaru Tribeca

Subaru
B9 Tribeca
40,000 milepaint defect

In 2006 I purchased a new Subaru B9 Tribeca. At about 20,000 miles in, the paint started flaking off the front bumper and around the wheels. It's pretty dramatic. The dealer claims it's caused by rock chips, but it's very obvious that it is not (rock chips along all four wheel wells? come on), but 4 body shops as well as an expert from my insurance company have opined that it's definitely a paitn defect. Nonetheless, I am still getting no satisfication. There aren't many other Tribecas in my relatively small town, but occasionally I'll see one with the same odd flaking pattern.

I am hoping that if anyone else has this problem that they will let me know, because it might help my argument. Thanks!
