So unfortunately Fortune Auto is out of their rear camber plates and are backordered for over a month...sucks! So i went ahead and dished out the extra cash to get the Cusco rear camber plates. So when i get back from Vacation i will have to install the camber plates on the coilovers, install the coilovers, reinstall the sway bars, set the camber on the knuckles, set the camber on the camber plates, set the toe, and check whatever else i check all in the 2 days before my AutoX....yeah not feeling too confident LOL. Well i hope i do. Here is how i am leaving everything, all torn apart.

Back from Hawaii and been having an insane amount of issue installing my Cusco rear camber plates on my Fortune Auto 500 coilovers. First i had an extremely hard time getting the standard flat tops off until i finally used my battery operated torque gun. Then i ran into the problem of my Cusco rear camber plates fitting on my Fortune Auto 500 coilovers. The 4 small bolts used to adjust the camber were resting on my springs. Like this:
So i posted on IWSTI trying to get some answers and i searched Google forever and i couldnt find it anywhere. After all the searching and opinions i got, it came down to missing some kind of spacer on the top yet i still couldnt get a definite answer. I narrowed it down to missing something like this: Finally, i decided to just email Fortune Auto directly. WOW all the rumors are true, their customer service is impeccable thus far. I emailed them about two hours ago asking if they could lend any help. I got an email back about 30 minutes later asking for some additional pictures and that they thought i was missing the top spring perches. So i emailed the additional pictures and a little bit later they emailed me and let me know that i indeed was in need of proper top perches made for camber plates. They offered to send them to me free of charge!!! So awesome! |

Well yesterday i took a drive to the bay and picked up my new fender flares!
So i decided to start attacking it today. Got them all taped up and saw where i needed to do a little trimming. Trimmed them up and now they fit really nice so i decided to drill the guide holes. Now i need to go out and buy the nutserts, then drill the holes out to full size, install the nutserts, then install the fenders! I am waiting for my tires to get here and mounted before i cut the fenders. I dont want to just hack everything away, figured i would see how it looks with the wheels and tires on and cut from there. Do you guys think i could cut along the OEM fender flare bend? That natural seem about 1.5" down from the tape. In other news i got around to install my S203 hazard button. I know its the same as a limited hazard button but i can truely say its a S203 hazard button In conjunction with my S203 shifter trim and shift boot :naughty: |

did you decide what seats yet? I would say if you want to stay stock looking but still have a tighter bolster get some sti v7 seats they are narrower than stock usdm sti seats and they are the same color combination and would be cheaper than reupholstering new seats

Got my new tires today. I really wanted a set of Hankook Ventus R-S3's but no one had them locally and i needed tires by this saturday for an AutoX. The tire shop i always use (Tire Pros) had a set of the new BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Comp 2s in stock in 275/35/18. They offered them to me at a really good price so i jumped on them. Even though they are rated 2 classes below the RS3 i figured id give them a shot as they cost me about $400 less then a set of RS3s. Plus i was thinking about it and since i race in ASP i would really benefit from a set of slicks so i figured the Comp 2s would be a great DD set and i can get another set of RPF1s and get a set of slicks mounted on them for AutoX. Anyway, i have an autoX this weekend so i will let you know how they do, onto the pictures.
Who needs Hellaflush when you have HELLATIRE!!! Look at that tire poking |

So i was able to get my car to the point where i could make it to the AutoX Enduro this weekend. I got the rear camber plates installed and all four coilovers on. Didnt have time to align it so i just set my camber to where i thought it should be and i went with it. I had to drive about 60 miles and the car handled flawlessly. Kept a straight line, didnt wander, nothing i was amazing. Subarus still amaze me to this day.
I was able to get my new tires installed on my wheels and installed my new fender flares as quick as possible. It all came together in time for today and i was so stoked. The car drives completely different then it did before. Ill do a write up on the Fortune Auto coilovers and the BFG COMPs but i will tell you i was very happy with both. Here are some pictures: |

INITIAL REVIEW OF: BF-Goodrich G-Force Comp2
Tire Details: - 275/35/18 - 95W - 340 AA A Price Paid: - $935 out the door Manufacturer Claims: - 30% better wet grip - 8% better dry grip - 16' shorter wet stopping - 9' shorter dry stopping - More control entering corners - More grip exiting corners Reason for Purchase: - Wanted an ultra high performance summer tire that could be a dual-purpose tire for autocross and daily driving until I can obtain a second set of wheels that can be used as a dedicated track set with slicks. How the tires will be used: - I only daily drive my car on the weekends and it doesn't see driving in the rain so wet performance wasn't a high priority. I mainly use my car for autocross so I wanted to tire to be more designed for that. Contenders and reason for choice: - I had narrowed it down to the Hankook R-S3, Dunlap Star Specs, and the BF Goodrich G-Force Comp2. For how expensive the Star Specs were I decided to immediately cut those out of my decision-making. The local tire shop I use highly suggested the new BFG Comp2s, they said for the money you cant beat the performance. I did a lot of research and saw that the R-S3s are better in the dry but worse in the wet compared to the BFG Comp2s. I figured that since slushy season is coming up, the R-S3s would be a bad decision so I decided to get the BFG Comp2s and run with them. Plus no one uses the BFG Comp2s yet so I thought it would be nice to be able to review them for other potentially interested. Daily Driving Characteristics: - I haven't daily driven them too much but I did make a 60 miles trip to the autocross and back on them. The tires are relatively quite and do not wonder when driving on the road. It's hard to say exactly how loud they are because I had my back seats out so everything was loud but I did hear tire noise coming from them. I figure this is because they are a pretty meaty tire, hence why they are so good in the wet. They carry speed quite well and feel very planted when driving at higher speeds (roughly 90mph thus far). So far I am very happy with how these handle on the road. Autocross Characteristics: - I am very new to Autocross so my knowledge is limited on tire characteristics when in relation to racing. The tires seem to take a little longer to heat up then others, this might be due to the different compound then the competition. Once they were warmed up they were awesome, the grip was very good but I feel it was limited in dry due to all the channeling for the wet traction. The side walls do seem extremely strong and I never once had the side wall collapse on me; although I was running about 40psi in the front and 38psi in the rear. I wish they had a little more grip because I felt the fronts plowed a little, but that might be my lack of driving skills and not the tires. After 12 runs the tires are still looking nice and barely broken in. The side knuckles show a little wearing but nothing to worry about. If I had the chance to go back, I would probably still buy these tires I am very happy with them. When under hard corner the tires made noise but nothing that I couldn't bare with, again I chump this up to the tread design for wet weather driving. I did notice that under hard braking these tires held strong, I never once felt a lack of confidence when under hard braking I knew the tires would hold the car. These things rock! Wet Daily Driving Characteristics: - To be continued. Wet Autocross Characteristics: - To be continued. Tread Pattern: Tire on the Wheel: After first Autocross and about 300 miles: |

So as i said before, my tire size creates some massive rubbing issues. Especially on the front bumper portion of the flare, it was so bad that it probably would have pulled it off during the autoX.
I finally took my front wheel off to start diagnosing the issues, i found out that it was rubbing very bad on the front of the inner fender flare. So i decided to cut it out, i tried to leave as much as i could for protection (if it even matters) and this is what i ended up with: I then moved onto the front bumper because even though i pulled off the flare, the tire was still rubbing on the bumper. I cut some off the bumper and reinstalled the flare but unfortunately i noticed i would now have to cut the flare and i didnt want to do that (even if it was the inner portion that was barely visible with the wheel on). So i decided to make a "bumper-pusher-outer" and force the bumper out. Just an ibolt connected to a threaded rod and placed against the subframe. Here is how it came out: I thought i was leaving "extra room" on my first threaded rod and it ended up being too short so i had to use my second one which was meant for the other side. It ended up having to be a longer then i thought, it REALLY pushes the bumper out. But when it was all said and done, it has plenty of room now! |

Thanks guys! Here are some updates. Been busying fighting wild fires in California so i havent had much time to work on the Subi.
Had some mad rubbing issues on the front. Here is some pictures of the trimming i had to do. This is what i had to cut off of the front portion of the fender flares that attached to the front bumper. I could have probably cut less but i felt like this flowed better and looked more "stock." Here is a comparison between the other side that i had not cut yet. You can see on the side that i have not cut yet, all the rubbing i had on the very top as well as the inner side. Here are some tips and tricks i learned. I noticed that a lot of the gap between the flares and body of the car were due to too large of fender mounts. So i modified the interior of the fender flares where the mounting holes are. Here is how they turned out. Also because some of my holes, for some reason, ended up being a bit off, i enlarged the holes a bit so i had "wiggle" room if the holes didnt line up perfect. Here is a picture of the hole and my bolt going through it with "wiggle" room around the edge. I had a lot of rubbing issues on the front bumper, even without the flares mounted. Really not sure why but i needed to do something about it. You can see above what i did with the flare and this is how much i cut off the bumper. You could cut less, but i cut more so it was hidden better behind the flare. I'll be sure to add any other tips or tricks that i come up with while installing these. |

Right now i only have one set of rims. This set of rims is used to DD driving as well as AutoX so it sees quite a bit of use and brake dust. With the heat, the dust gets baked onto the rims pretty well. I have found some products that work well for me and i was bored today so i decided to make a quick write up.
Here is a quick before and after shot. You can see the bits and pieces of baked on brake dust. Here are the products i used. - Your standard bucket - Micro fibre - Soft brisel brush - Meguiars NXT Car Wash - Eagle 1 Mag Wheel Cleaner First you want to rinse off all the dust. *dont forget to do the inside of the rim* Second apply a liberal amount of Mag Wheel Degreaser, dont be shy. *dont forget to do the inside of the rim* Third use your soft bristle brush to get the hard stuff off. *dont forget to do the inside of the rim* Forth get your micro out and get all the nooks and crannies. Fifth, rinse, *don't forget the inside of the rim, check to see if any further cleaning is necessary* Finally, you're done....with one rim. |

Enkei RPF1s are hands down the best bang for the buck. Great wheel construction, the dual spoke design supposedly helps disperses stress under heavy braking and extreme driving. Also the bolt design supposidly helps keep the rims cooler during extreme driving. Then, even at my large size, each rim is only 19.5lbs! The package only cost me $1360 shipped. One vendor even offered them to me for $1290 shipped! Can't beat that. The smaller, or more so, the stock sizes are even cheaper.

AUTOCROSS REVIEW UPDATE ONE: BF-Goodrich G-Force Sport Comp2
Tire Details: - 275/35/18 – 95W – 340 AA A My Car Details: - Fortune Auto 500 Coilovers - F/R Whiteline Sway Bars with Endlinks - Cobb Stage 2 (stock Cobb tune) - F/R Camber Plates - Driver needs improvement LOL Daily Driving Characteristics: - So far I am still very happy with these tires daily driving characteristics. They are loud, and I feel as I DD them more and wear them in and probably AutoX on them, they are getting louder. I don’t mind because I love the sound and it makes them sound mean. Despite the noise these tires are very smooth, even with stiff coilovers these tires take up a lot of those small road imperfections. I have yet to get these things to break loose in a DD situation. I am very interested to see how they handle in the wet. Autocross Characteristics: - Again I want to reiterate that I am new to AutoX and I no way should my words be taken as fact. These are strictly my opinions based on the limited knowledge I have. As I learn more I will spread it but please know that this is all coming from a fellow AutoXer learning the ropes. - I finally have my car dialed in where I want it so I was able to really push these tires today. Today was the first day on concrete and let me tell you, these tires really do love concrete. I also noticed that these tires really like air. I run my rears at 40PSI and was having issues with under steer so I filled my fronts to 45PSI and I was on rails again! I went up another 5PSI front and rear and the tires did NOT like it, that was definitely pushing the envelope when the tires warmed up so I dropped back down to 45 and 40. These tires also like to be hot. I ran in high 80s today, 5 runs, with about 10 to 15 minutes between each run. I didn’t wet my tires until about run 4 or 5, if I even did. These tires take a while to heat up and they NEED the heat. Once heated, these things perform WAY better. Unfortunately as their performance and temperature increase, so does there noise. Dang are these things loud and do they squeal. Some of it is probably because I am pushing my car too hard, but isn’t that the point of AutoX? But they are still very loud, they also like to smoke. Below is a video illustrating what I am talking about. - After today, I am even happier with these tires. They definitely are NOT on par with star specs or RS3s. So if you are planning to stay in street tire categories, DON’T get these. If you are a weekend warrior and DD your car this might be a good alternative. I will say though, this is a good tire to learn to AutoX on because it is NOT forgiving at all. It will let you know every little mistake you make. Video Highlighting Tire Characteristics: |
