Cleanest workspace I've ever seen. This includes the office where I work which is cleaned by janitors every night.
I'd love to see more Indy pictures too!

It must suck balls knowing that #339 won't be able to turn a wheel on US soil.
At least you know you don't have to drive a rental when you come down for a holiday! |

Beautiful photos! Did I miss what kind of paint you used on the wheel wells?

here are a couple more of the lola I rebuilt. and a little bonus picture, Schumachers 2002,2003 Ferrari and me with a Honda engine earlier this year The blue and yellow car that is seen in the background of pictures in my garage is my 83 March, unfortunately interest and budget have made this car a longterm project that I have been working on since 97 Last edited by 22B05STI; 12-08-2010 at 04:31 AM. |

You turbocharged a DFV.
Why? |

It is a cosworth DFX and this is a 83 March Indycar which had the DFX
The DFV was a three Litre V8 and the Cosworth DFX is the 2.65 Litre v8. actually my dad originally built Trevor crowes racing engines, He came over here and ran the engine programme for Kraco Racing and it was because of him I came over here and got involved with restoring cars and helping him rebuild DFV and DFX Cosworth engines. I worked for his business a couple of times but I find it less stressful just working for a team Last edited by 22B05STI; 12-04-2010 at 10:43 PM. |

Do you remember the Toyota Starlet, with the rover V8 in it, he originally built that engine as well. My dad raced a ford capri and Then a Mustang in the O.S.C.A series. I took pictures of the Starlet while I was at Ruapuna.
When you look at the justy it really reminds me of the starlet I used to sit in when it was in Zap colors when I was a kid going to the track with my dad in the early 80s |

Ah. I recognised it as a DFV. Hence the mix up and the question.

yes actually the engines look very similar but the heads, pumps rods etc are different to the DFV. and the DFX has the big plenum like you can see on the engine in my car. I posted a few pictures above of Cosworth engines in his shop and a Ferrari F1 engine, those are generally what my dad builds most.

Another Issue I found with my Impreza was the rear brake caliper Bolts were siezed in the caliper. This apparently is a common occourence and the solution is normally to helicoil the caliper. It was obvious that the bolts were installed dry and I used an antisieze when fitting the calipers back on again. The other issue I discovered was the front caliper torque spec was incorrect and has obviously caused several people on the forums some major problems. It was obviously too high when I saw the spec and some rescearch helped me come up with the correct spec which I listed with my torque specs!
Below is my caliper and the insert I had to have made as unfortunately I was not able to drill the bolt out properly with what I had so off it went to my dad to fix. He also had to refind the centres again which is why the hole is offset in the insert. I am fortunate to have someone to fix things when I can't |

The Starlet looks like it would fit in perfectly with GpB spec cars! God damn those guards are just so big and imposing!
Gah I'm jealous! I'm itching to do another project. My last two failed. Both ended up with bent chassis! |

I missed this one...Lol, yes it kinda sucks not being able to drive it. I think in the end I am more interested in owning and maintaining what I think is a big piece of the Brands history. I worked on replacing several of the things under the hood to make it look like new and bring it back to completely original while I was down there. I have to do other things also. I am going to have to buy a new steering wheel and a new clutch because the dealership fitted an excedy clutch and it is noisy and chatters sometimes so I will definately put that back to factory as I am not happy with that. I know a person here in the states that has a lot of rallycars, has a ford rS200 and a ford escort that was built but never rallied and a Metro. He imported a Tommi Makinen edition Mitsubishi and also an enzo Ferrari and I am going to see what he can do for me when I am ready to bring it over....at the end of the day it is a collector car for me and I hope to preserve it and bring it back to immaculate factory original condition!

The mustang in third place at the start of this race is My Dad...I think it's a great picture and it reminds me of where it all started. Last edited by 22B05STI; 12-08-2010 at 04:33 AM. |
