All I have to look forward to this time of year is the view of brown pine needles and the sight of my front tire washing out.

My tires should be here today hopefully I can get some fall riding in soon. I don’t think I’ll get up to Trestle again before they close.

This is giving me PTSD. I just took a hard spill yesterday after hitting a bunch of newly fallen leaves on the road. Took a new route along this asphalt walking path to extend my trail ride a bit. Came downhill pretty quick and leaves were right at the apex of a blind turn in the path. Whole bike slid out from under me and my right shoulder hit the ground hard with a secondary helmet smack on the right side of my head.

Called wife to come get me as I couldn't move my right arm. Went to urgent care, got x-rays, and somehow nothing was broken. I'm in a lot of pain today and I'm reeeally questioning those x-ray results.

Owe a lot to the MIPS helmet. I was shaken up but no concussion and was mostly fine.

That's the great thing about properly breaking your **** off.

When I broke my shoulder/clavicle in 2006, I could see it was broken when they were discussing the x-ray results in the hall

My clavicle looked like a snapped chopstick

Mine luckily wasn't a full separation and didn't need surgery but that was pretty much the only "good news"

It splintered and was held together by almost noting. The specialist said he could easily finish the job but I was basically ****ed with or without surgery because of how "unclean" the break was.

I still have a nice "church steeple" going today.

I’ve got a plate in a collarbone too but I don’t think I’ve got a picture handy.

My favorite time of year. Trails were so good today after some much needed rain. Was in and out of clouds the whole ride.

FRESH leaves, I find Fine traction UNLESS they are wet. DRY leaves can be slick as frog snot if they are deep. After they have been ridden on a while they seem fine.

That was actually my guess. I have time this afternoon to ride (maybe) but I’ll have to swap tires first.

Hey all, quick question - what's in your pack on a normal ride? I'm debating no longer carrying a tube and wondering what others bring. Here's my list:

-Multitool
-CO2's & chuck
-Plug kit (stans dart or dynaplug or both)
-Wolftooth chain pliers/tire lever/link holder thing
-zip ties
-leatherman squirt (for the mini pliers, scissors, knife, etc)
-pack of steri-strips to close a big cut temporarily
-derailleur hanger

Multi tool in headset with a chain break and spare link(SWAT)
Spare tubes(Tubolito$), Co2 x 2, leyzne control inflator and stans dart kit inside downtube(SWAT)
Topeak digital psi gauge, zip ties, phone, snacks, etc. in a Camelbak Podium Flow Belt

I use a POC Evoc 3L hip pack for longer rides.

Should probably throw in a hanger and some gauze/tape now that I see that.

Look into the Tubolitos. If you're ok with spending $30 on a tube, they're very light and pack in a fraction of the space.

Don't forget Phone for the Stravas. I only have a multi-tool, plug kit, and CO2+chuck. I have a spare tube strapped to my frame. With 27.5+ tires I'm always afraid of punctures.

If you're looking to decreasing weight, I recently converted from a water back pack (Patagonia Nine Trails) to a DaKine Hot Laps waist pack. Water bottle on the bike and the waist pack can hold another water bottle. Lighter, no weight on shoulders, cooler, and feels better than taking the whole pack. Whole pack comes out for the 20+ mile rides.

Reminds me I need to get another spare hanger.

Get a SS, no hanger needed

I don't carry plug kits but I do keep a couple of $1 bills. If a cut is bigger than that, my ride is over anyway.

I wish Specialized had incorporated the frame "hidey hole" into the Epic. My back is getting to where I don't like taking a hydrapak but it's also my entire tool kit.

I could probably put everything I need in an emergency in the frame and a seat bag.

Default OT Mountain bikers

I should have mentioned bags. For short rides (1 bottle or park) I’ll use a small frame bag (wolf tooth b roll). For medium rides I’ll use lumbar pack (have osprey and dakine). For longer camelback.

Edit - if any people in CO want some used tires come get them. DHF with a 1/8” sidewall cut and a DHR II with a 1/2” cut in tread. I can’t see myself wanting to use them.

Rode Mule Deer. First time in a while. More fun than I remember, and the e-bike makes the long boring sections quick work.

Trees were nice to peep at
