I think I’m at the absolute limit as far as comfy size for these seats. I’m 5’10 and 205-210 muscular stocky build with fairly wide back and shoulders and 34” waist which means my junk always has to be sitting on top of my lap or I’m constantly crushing balls . They get fairly uncomfortable if I go beyond that weight when out of shape but do ok up to 225 if I stay around %12 bf in great shape. However I do drive with my seat back pretty much at a 90 from the bottom rest like a fixed seat would so that lessens the shoulder discomfort from them not being wide enough up top. The USDM seats feel like lawn chairs to me. They suck and are obviously only for looks,

Can’t do much being crippled but it does give opportunity to do my cheesy old man customizing details I love so very much. I’m really stoked about the map box. Text fitting my bug deflector as well letting it grow in me before I add the rest of the clips and scratch tabs. I love oem+ but I really need to focus all my attention on suspension bushings this winter and possibly having my Arai option struts refreshed by feal as well as upgrade sway bars and some Oswald replacement under bracing would be nice with a beatrush skid plate. (All dressed up and no track to roll.).. hopefully that’ll change soon if I could just stay away from the hospital OR.

Welp , second day out of the hospital after I had to go back due to some complications with internal bleeding and I’m coming across more items I’ve collected over time and haven’t installed that I can safely do in my current condition. This is a replacement billet roof vent latch powdered in a crinkle red that matches the hazard button color. It’s a little smaller then the oem one which makes a real nice difference with the Alex roof vent as the rubber molded part comes into contact so there’s a need to press the rubber in making it extremely difficult to close at freeway speeds. This slips by a lot easier just barely touching like it was made with the Alex kit in mind and functions better then the oem which can crack over time from the added stress. I found my oem one to have a small stress crack while removing the expansion pins. Hats off to Drew McDonald from New Zealand for doing yet another “final run” of these. Beautiful and thoughtful craftsmanship… the photo shadows make it look crooked and slight off but I assure you it’s just the post op cameraman in a neck brace that can’t take a picture for ****. Tapatalk won’t let me load the video of it functioning either it seems

I’m going insane. One week into post op spinal fusion and my job is jamming without me, getting sound and lighting stagehand gig offers left and right from my favorite company I freelance. Amazing money to be made left and right thrown at me non stop and grrrr . Zero money coming in as I didn’t even get to start work yet, Timing so ****ed on this happening i even went into the hospital after our welcome back to work meeting because it completely let go that day and I tried to fight it. I lost, badly, of course and fast. I was in emergency spine surgery within 8 hours of arriving in the ER. Back again a few days later for severe hematoma that ruptured along my throat incision. Like going from normal to having an avocado growing out the side if your neck in 15 minutes. Luckily it’s just supposedly something that could happen but rarely to ever occur and “just apply pressure to it next time if it happens again, it’ll go down”. My eyes almost fell out my head laughing when he said it but he was serious .. anyway

Now I’m sitting around the garage on all kinds of medication for spine injuries/surgeries plus smoking medicinals to ease the pain staring at my car and making a dangerous list of **** I need to buy for it. Brakes first and foremost and I should really take this time to rebuild/refinish the brembos so rear rotors and new pads all around as well as 4 rebuild kits. I want to redo all the suspension and steering bushings in one blow with a master kit so I may just use energy suspensions. For a hopefully soon to be weekend track warrior and fun day car I think they’ll suffice just fine. I never had problems 20+ years ago on my Honda with them and I know Gigs and I chatted about how well his fathers been on his wrx. I , as basic as they are I’ve never heard any real complaints but please speak freely if you’d advise otherwise on a better urethane glue kit.. feel free to stop reading any time I just need to talk and vent a little frustration, maybe get some ideas for this to do list , etc. even if nobody’s listening.. so another thing that needs to be addressed under there is like is to have feal rebuild/refresh my jdm STI Arai tuned adjustable suspension so I can trust them on a track. as amazingly beautiful and extremely low mileage looking condition I received them in it’s still a safety issue that I feel would be irresponsible to ignore. Stock jdm sway bars I think I’m fine with for now but the end links could definitely use upgrading. Last thing really is finally install my arp extended lugs and get a nice open ended nut set. I think I’m up to about $3k in parts and parts servicing. Plus a **** ton of bench time for me rebuilding brakes and attempting to pull suspension pieces apart without using force that will disturb my healing process or alert the wife that I’m doing dumb **** again after another surgery (I’ve had 13 procedures in 13 years) .. it’s funny because the whole reason I’ve collected so much crap for this car has been because of sitting around recovering from surgeries with nothing to do but wheel and deal parts so it’s become something of an emotional support vehicle, lol. It’s definitely been fun to do and I don’t even wanna think about how much time I spent combing forums and pages but patience and striking right really pay off and make it fun, not to mention chatting with other car nerds from around the world. I’ve really enjoyed talking to others whom put that level thought into their cars that are willing to seek out only the best to achieve their goals… I hang out in the garage with my car way too much I think. Spacing out staring at the thing like I just bought it or did something new .. looking at recent little things that I love. Anything subtle and cool once you notice it are my favorite, functional aesthetic modifications are preferred but I do have a couple corny things here and there. Then the constant things that aggravate me the cleaner everything gets the more dirty **** that needs refreshed.. Anyway , that’s all for being bored in the garage in a plastic neck cast. Until next time ..

… oh **** I just remembered I have to make new brackets for my trust oil cooler for the wheel well and have finally get my catch can In ..

Don't worry man, you're good. It's just negativity chewing on your brain. Don't beat yourself up, the rest of the world doesn't need any more help doing that.

The next thing on my mod list is a transmission rebuild and CUSCO front diff, but that's spring (oops). The synchros are on their last legs. Winter holidays are really important in Japan, so it's hard to get the work done without a 3-4 week wait. I can't afford that time because it's my daily.

But winter is going to be maintenance time. It's too cold out for my wife and other locals, but perfect hoodie weather for a New Englander like me. It's my favorite time to do bolt checks and have a general once over under the car. I'll see if my mechanic will let me borrow his lift so I'm not crawling around on the driveway. Also going to try and see if I can center the roof vane a little better. It's slightly to the left (about 1mm) and my OCD can't ignore it.

No worries!

I looked up spinal fusion surgery after reading your post and it certainly is a significant procedure. I can just start to imagine your frustration being laid up and wanting to get rolling on doing stuff. That said, keep the long game in mind, and focus on the healing/physio (I’m sure you know all that, just saying it!)

I’ve a lot of work planned for my bugeye (which is becoming my son’s bugeye) over the next few months. My poor boy had an excursion into a ditch trying to avoid a fox that ran out onto the road, and long story short, I ended up welding in a new quarter panel and doing a bunch of other bodywork, and it is now at a good local paint shop getting re-done.

At the same time, I am going through the chassis comprehensively (new bushings, ball joints, tie-rod ends etc.) as well as putting in new struts (still to be purchased) as well as a set of JDM 4/2 pot fixed calipers, knuckles, front lower control arms. We had replaced the clutch shortly before the incident, so the car should be very fresh when all is said and done. My son loves this car as much as I do (we’ve had it since new) and we have a 2021 STI added to the stable, so he will take over the bugeye.

(I’ve posted some of this on the “What did you do to your Subaru today” thread, so sorry for those that have already seen some of this crap)

Starting to weld in the quarter, eventually the entire seam was butt welded:

Prepped car off to the body shop

Spot priming… the shop is perfecting a few areas for me…

Take-off brakes etc. I will be refinishing the calipers, epoxy priming and painting the steel bits and getting the rotors machined)

Ya I had my C5/6 fused 2 years ago and once ones fused you’re pretty much doomed to more fusions because those now larger fused together vertebrae wear on the lower discs harshly. My C6/7 I just had fused to the 5/6 was a surprise as I thought I’d have more time before it went. Spinal surgeries I’ve found to be very much as a mental battle in the healing process as a physical one. I’ve been going through this **** for over a decade because motorcycle wrecks I had in my late 20’s. PTSD from the pain and high number of surgeries is something I’d never thought I’d be being treated for but it is what happens so gotta deal and fix it.

That’s outstanding that you’re restoring your big to pass down to your son. I applaud your epic parenting. I still have 6 years before mine is able to acquire a license. At my pace I’d be about halfway done by the time he’s able to drive lol. No, his first car will be a 5 speed manual base STOCK Subaru of some sort until he proves he can be a good driver then I’ll build a car with him.

I was fine with that since it was workman's comp, but after looking at the final bill including the surgery, rehab, and the month hospital stay, surgery to remove the pins three months later, and a week long hospital stay it was less than $3,000. I did have to pay for the anesthesia out of pocket, which was all of $20 per surgery and I even got that money back from the government in the end. I dread to think of what the same level of care would have cost me back in the US.

Sorry for the off topic anecdote.

I missed your reply, didn’t mean to ignore you. You may or may not realize my wife is Japanese. I love Japan, hopefully we move there some day.
I love living in the US but our political system is extremely dis functional and recently is gotten scary.
I’ve been running my own business over 30 years, have voted in every election since eligible. I’m ready to get out, I found myself in fear for my wife and daughter when the Asian hate over Covid started to creep up. Too much hatred and ignorance going on.

You're 6'3? I would think in general, GD's would be a tight fit if you are that height, let alone v7 seats sizing.

No worries, man. I think your wife's descent has come up in past conversations here in this thread, or more likely in my thread. I recall you sharing a photo of a lovely outdoor bath from her family home.

I'm sorry you had to experience that. Has your wife or daughter experienced it firsthand? I'd be fearful too.
It was another thing on my mind as well when I read about that kind of nonsense going on. We were/are planning to send my daughter over for schooling, but I've been reconsidering since then.

Personally, I can't imagine moving back at the moment. The only thing I'd go back for is to take care of my parents in about 20-30 years.

I find it odd that hateful speech and actions are something people are getting behind as an example of freedom of speech and freedom of expression. Like I don't get what good that brings anyone. I always understood it as freedom to speak out against the government, not freedom to abuse our neighbors.

I was really saddened that when times got tough the US showed a really ugly side of her, instead of banding together as a community and pulling through. I guess the biggest difference between the US and Japan is community. Many here feel a responsibility towards their neighbors and coworkers, not just family and friends.

Yeah , I fit great even with a helmet in my Recaro Profi XL but the seat is mounted quite low and very far back.

Man you guys make me grateful I have not had to get major surgeries and have no major medical issues outside Lyme disease.

Yeah, you tall guys have a tough time in most 90s-early 2000s Japanese cars. Luckily I'm only at 5'7" (170cm~ish), which is on the taller side for Japanese people, though recently their heights are shooting up too.

But 170cm and stocky seems to be the right size for those V7 seats because they are super comfy and supportive for me.

I wish I had the roof vane installed and the pillar trim repainted for these photos... I'll have to keep my eye out for perfect weather in that spot again next year.

My wife is Filipina as is my son being half and I’ve been concerned about the same kind of **** happening to them but luckily metro Detroit is very diverse and we don’t head out to the sticks very often if ever. When we were in the PI last I just wanted to say **** it and sell everything here and stay there. Being in another country for a significant amount of time and really decompressing from the stresses we face here on a daily basis shows just how ugly being an American has become and how far we’ve lost our way from the most important part of life which is living. I’m proud to be an American because of what I stand for in this country still but I’m really tired of being around so many ****heads and the drama they bring. We do plan on retirement in the Philippines and already own a condo in Makati that I wish I could just be at now… only thing that sucks is it’s really hard to get jdm cars into the PI and I’d have to leave my beautiful baby

Being abroad and watching from the outside really puts things into perspective. The US is so insular, it's not even funny. I wish Americans would get out more. When I would suggest traveling and seeing other parts of the world to people in my community, I would sometimes get puzzled looks with a response like "Why would I want to leave the greatest in country in the world?" or something along those lines. You hear about the Chinese or North Koreans being brainwashed, but man when you hear something like that from different people...

Retirement in the Philippines would be nice, but it would suck to leave the car behind.

Ya I can’t even communicate with people that have that mindset about traveling abroad. Hell, most of the people I know have barely ever left the Detroit area other then a brief vacation to some resort bla bla bla. As someone that’s moved all around the country like a gypsy I even have a hard time communicating with those friends as their outlook on things is biased by their own personal bubble and not very broad when it comes to overall good or bad issues and outlooks on life and the world itself. Nativity from lack of different life experiences and lifestyles.

Very pumped that I picked up my future daily driver yesterday. Literally a "barn find" after the guy's mechanic wouldn't inspect it because the U-brace was rusty. He bought a truck, parked the Impreza, and hasn't really touched it in two years. It's a mess and smells like a mushroom inside, but it is lovable and has a lot of character.

After a quick stop at the car wash during the 4 mile drive home:
