Hope it isn't meh. But got bored halfway through the teaser. Seems very generic.

It's really going to be hard to capture what made the books popular.
Even though from the surface (especially the first couple of books), it's seems derivative of Tolkien (though not as blatant as Sword of Shannara), Jordan does change it up a bit later on and his narrative style is easy to pick-up even though a bit long winded (his Conan books were more concise). For TV shows and movies, they will always be compared to the LoTR series and of course the GoT. I'm not sure this series will last long enough to differentiate itself from those other movies/shows. I would have preferred an animated series. I'll give the show a chance, but at least the books are always there to go back to. |

I tried to watch the Shanara TV show but...no, just no. But my ex, who never read the books, enjoyed it (not loved but enjoyed). IMO LoTR was the exception to a beloved complex series of books translated to the screen. Failure is far more common than success...but that doesn't mean I don't want studios to continue to try. I would LOVE for Wheel of Time to pull that off. So I'm going to give it every opportunity to do so...and if it fails, that's a bummer, I'll just read the books again. |

I think they changed the aes sedai accepted trials a bit. That's what I think those scenes are. Too bad not naked I guess... the river might be a metaphor for the one power.

LoTR is a horrible book series, and the LoTR movies got worse with each new one released. Tolkien was a great world builder, but very bad at telling stories. WoT does start off a bit like fellowship, but diverges by the end of the first book. a lot of the problems with WoT was that RJ didn't really have the system of magic well thought out until a few books into the series. he also thought he was writing a short series, and then when he got to what would be the last book in the series, he realized he had a lot (A LOT) more to tell, and you can totally feel the pace change, and you can even notice that a few of the things that were moving in a specific direction just disappeared (the speed of Rand's madness for one). anyway, I've been ready for this, the one thing I'm already a bit disappointed in is the look of the cities, in every book, when they introduce a new city there is a map in the book, and that's how I've built the cities, Tar Valon did not look like the book described it. I can't wait for the battle of Carhien, or Battle of Emond's Field. Last edited by samagon; 09-03-2021 at 09:15 AM. |

https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/deta...CuJCb_brws_4_2 This also changes my answer a bit as the river scene we see is being used in a different context. If you know the books, you should know what I'm talking about. |

Don't judge this (or any other) series/movie by the trailer alone. The more complex the plot line, the less it will translate into a sound bite trailer. Just sayin'

On some youtube channel a guy brought up I think is the best point so far about the TV series: tone. Will they aim to actually show the dark stuff or just kinda gloss over it like Jordan always did.
A great example is the combat, which in the books is always just all graceful and particularly vague. The actual combat takes place off the pages, basically, in your own head, so the exceptions are *really* notable. Jordan writes like that with a LOT of the darker things going on (what do Myrddraal really do enjoy about a captured Aes Sedai, one may wonder...) and tries to keep stuff on page much more PG than what's really going on. The TV series could seriously be as gnarly as GoT was if it wanted to, but could also be super light, so we'll see where it really lands. I'm hoping it starts out very extreme, black and white, so to speak between good/evil and gradually blends more into gray all over the place as the show progresses. Also, no way am I watching trailers for this, I need to go in as blind as possible lol. I had a hard enough time getting over some of the casting choices. |

And Perrin as well - I suppose if they both bulked up a bit it would help, but Perrin especially is supposed to be built like a barn.

Found an awesome channel with an in depth series of videos for WoT that is specifically spoiler-free for non-book readers.

I'm pretty excited about this series, but trying to temper my enthusiasm at the same time. Yes, adaptations of books to the screen are often disappointing, but I feel like if I keep my expectations reigned in a little bit this could be a great series to watch. The trailers for this make it look better than the average SyFy Channel fantasy series.
I've read this entire series twice. The second time on audiobook when, a handful of years ago, I had a pretty long work commute. But anyway, it's been a long time coming, so I'm more excited about this than just about anything else coming down the pipe. |

I'm curious if we'll ever find out why they recast Mat between seasons.

Loved it. So excited to see it!!! ...did notice a couple odd things then purposefully focused on enjoying what a gift this is vs. trying to pick apart stuff. |

The wheel weaves as the wheel wills.
Hopefully the writers of this series took that to heart and puts the emphasis on the original storyline and writing style. And the pacing of the story should resemble the books. |

Heard the "taint" is now the "corruption". Looks like they are trying to avoid the memes down the road.
