Default Connecting subwoofer to aftermarket headunit

Hey guys,

I have a 2013 sti and just picked up an aftermarket 5-channel amplifier and sub from a fellow nasioc member, and was needing help in regards of the wiring for the speakers. I'm currently running a Kenwood DMX7706s with the Metra 70-7552 harness and Maestro ADS-MSW for steering controls. I will be keeping the stock speakers as for now. As far as connecting the speakers to the amplifier, I understand I'll be running RCA cables from the stereo to the amplifier, but when connecting the speakers to the amplifier, will I be able to tap into the metra harness?

The RCA cables run audio signal to the amp, then speaker wires run from the amp to the speakers. You will need power and ground to the amp but there shouldn’t be anything else (other than an remote signal wire to tell the amp to power) that needs to connect to the system.

I understand that, but what I’m saying is do I have to cut into my factory wires or can I tap into the metra harness and create kind of like a t-connector

The speaker wire will run from the amplifier only. The RCAs will carry the signal to the amplifier. That head unit has audio outs for front/rear and subwoofer. You’re essentially cutting out factory speaker wiring by introducing the amplifier. Crutchfield has some decent wiring diagrams for reference. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-rKdODX...rs_wiring.html

Since you are running the aftermarket HU you will get your audio signal directly from the HU via the RCA output from the HU to the amplifier, you do no use the factory speaker wire in this case. The speaker wire connects from the amp to the speaker. If your front door speakers dont have an amp then you would connect your front speakers with the Metra harness.
