Default Single tire

I have to replace one tire due to nasty sidewalk damage. Unfortunately Costco can’t get the pilot super sports anymore. They ordered the newer pilot sport 4s. I still have about 60% tread left on these tires, the technician didn’t provide with the specific numbers unfortunately. Now the problem is I know I shouldn’t be running different tires and I can’t find the specs to both tires. If I shave the new tire to the same tread wear would it be okay to run this setup? Or should I just fork over the cash and buy a new set?

If I were you I would have bought 4 new tires, unluckily.
It may work but if not central diff is quite expensive, AFAIK.

Not exactly sure what you mean by the "specs" but
1. Go to TireRack.com and look up the specific tire and go to " Specs "
2. Find a tire store that actually knows their business ( not easy to do ) and talk to them
3. Contact Michelin directly and talk to them.

Just because Costco doesn't carry them any more doesn't mean they can't be found. Google " Michelin Pilot Super Sports " and many places carry them, Tire Rack being on of them.

Cheapest way out is to buy one Michelin Pilot Super Sport and have it shaved to match. Tire Rack does this, pretty sure.

Tire Rack is only one option for this. I'm sure there are many more.
A good tire store, as mentioned above, can also get this done for you.

Krzy***347;
How much tread difference can there be between front and rear tires before it poses a risk to the central diff?

I think it is in the manual.
1/4 or 1/8 inch of circumference, not diameter.

tire shaving shops are few and far in between. Those that exist, who are worth their salt, will know to measure the circumference of your existing tires mounted and shave down to that circumference, not shave down to match tread depth.

Open question: does anyone see a problem with shaving down to matching mounted circumference with DIFFERENT tire models like OP's situation?

Were the tires purchased with some kind of road hazard? If so at least a portion should be covered, if not buy 2 and keep trucking

Different wear rate. After some time the difference may grow too big.
One would need to keep monitoring the circumference if it is still within limit.

One would need to check what "road hazard" covers. But I suspect it covers single tire replacement, no allowance for AWD vehicles.

Krzy***347;
great point - wear rate.

keeping the OP's situation in mind, I don't think it would be an issue. It's PSS vs PS4. We are not talking different brand, different tire type like summer vs all-season, or anything too far off. PS4 is the next version after PSS. I would think it's fine if that is what is covered under warranty.
