Need help with this noise, losing my mind
So I've got less than 600 miles on my brand new IAG Stage 2 Tuff Block. And Ive had this noise since almost the beginning. I haven't found a thread or video anywhere that sounds exactly like my issue, so here goes. Tuner is kind of stumped, has suggested a few things, but nothing has changed it.
Less than 600 miles on IAG Stage 2 Tuff Block New Parts with motor build OEM oil pump OEM thermostat OEM idlers and timing tensioner NGK LFR7AIX Kelford 264 cams GSC Valve Springs Koyo Rad Gates Blue Racing timing belt FP Green turbo Exedy STage 1 HD clutch kit ARP Headstuds IAG Oil Pick up tube Group N Motor mounts All new exhaust gaskets Reused from old motor: Tomei ELH Invidia Catted DP ID 1050x injectors Crawford AOS Cobb CAI Perrin Fuel rails and regulator OEM fly wheel (resurfaced) The noise/rattle only happens after driving enough to get everything warm. Will not happen with cold motor. I've tried numerous times but can only get it to happen after a good warm up and 15 mins or so of driving. The sound only happens when accelerating from a stop, 1st gear only and going up hill, so with a little bit of load I guess. And the noise only happens between 1500-2100 rpms or so and then goes away. If I accelerate from a stop on flat or downhill I don't hear it. The noise does not cause any noticeable vibration in floor, pedals, shifter or steering wheel. Oil pressure at cold idle, warm idle and cruising is within spec. And no oil pressure drop when noise occurs. Originally thought it was timing tensioner, replaced with another OEM tensioner, with no luck. Still on Motul Breakin 10w40 oil per IAG guidelines. I've also checked for anything loose in the engine bay, got under there and shook thee hell out of everything even smacked on some stuff with a dead blow and couldn't replicate the sound. Open to any suggestions. Need help before I scrap this $10k motor build and sell the car for scrap. This camera view is from the passenger side mounted to the uni body frame right next to the valve cover/header. Timestamps for the noise so you aren't listening to the entire thing. 15:04, 15:59, 16:29, 16:39, 16:50, 17:00, 18:10, 21:20, 21:28, 21:38, 21:53, 23:53, 24:00, 24:08, 24:32, 24:47, 26:44, 31:16, 31:24, 31:33, 31:43, 31:58, 33:58, 34:07, 34:17, 34:27 Also took a video from the driver side in the exact same spot, but dont' have enough space in my googledrive for both videos. If someone wants to hear that one as well, let me know and I'll figure out a way to upload it somewhere. https://drive.google.com/file/d/16vD...ew?usp=sharing

Machine shop a couple hours away that has done dozens of subaru heads for the builder that helped me put it all together. Did the oil changes at 50 and 500 miles and they both had a good deal of "glitter" in them, but all were very fine and uniform size. No chunks. Pretty sure that's normal still at the 500 mile mark on a new motor.
I've had some suggest it's possibly the resurfaced fly wheel or just a bad clutch kit as it only seems to happen in that low RPM range of engagement with the fly wheel. With so many brand new parts in the engine bay I just feel like that should rule out a lot of things, but some have told me they've had plenty of brand new parts just end up as a bad egg. |

It sounds like it's near the flywheel. I had a similar sound after we did my built motor and clutch 3 years ago. My clutch was engaging really weird too though. We redid my clutch and flywheel and the problem was never eliminated unfortunately but it does seem to happen less. I chalked it up to coincedence.
Hopefully, it isn't the valvetrain. |

I see in there you did cams, so did they adjust the valve lash?
