Default what should i do with my car

i have a 2000 impreza L coupe. i have driven the hell out of it, im hoping its in relatively ok condition...i know the struts need replacing and my drivers side headlight keeps blowing out but other than that i think it runs well.

i use it to get to work and back up into the mountains and put a couple hundred miles on it a day.

what would be some moderately inexpensive things i could do to the car to improve performance and maybe help prolong its life.

i know next to nothing about cars so any advice would be appreciated.

Blowing headlight? Photos please

If longevity is in your mind, maintenance, and preventive maintenace is THE most important thing to do. How long did you have it for? What oil/coolant/differential oil/ transmission oil / spark plugs change intervals did you follow? What's the mileage on it?

As far as suspension goes, well parts wear out, and nothing can help it. How does your car look? A good 2 day wash-clay-polish-wax job will make it like new. Spray silicone on the rubber door seals, it prolongs their life. IF you live in snowy winters, yearly rustproofing does wonders.

Not sure what advice you need

Follow Subaru's maintenance schedule faithfully for the best long life. Check the oil every time you fuel the car.

What you lack in power you make up with grip.
I am in love with STi bushings, a car can never be too stiff.
A quality alignment will tell you a lot about a cars state.
Take a look at KYB struts with sticky tires in the summer and knobby snows in the winter.

thanks for the advice. im not sure if this is the appropriate place but i have a couple more questions.

does anyone know if they make vinyl seat covers that would work for a 2000 impreza l? i work in construction and the inside of my car is now completely destroyed. combined with the ripped upholstery and mud, is an insane amount of dog hair. i kind of want to spray the inside of the car with bed liner and put vinyl over everything else, im not sure if thats a really bad idea or a really good one.

how much of the 2000 impreza rs is interchangeable with the 2000 impreza l...i have a two door if that matters. would exchanging my steel rims for those found on the rs improve gas mileage or handling.

sometimes when its warm i have a hard time starting the car, the engine kind of lugs around and doesnt seem to run smooth untill i rev the engine a couple times. i was thinking it was the fuel injectors, i have no real idea whats the cause though.

thanks again.

Some 2000/2001 2.5RS wheels would be great. They're extremely light and are 7" wide (WRX's are only 6.5") 2.5RS shocks will work as will the springs. The "really" poor man's setup for your car is a set of stock 2.5RS shocks/springs which you might be able to pick up by just asking for free from someone who replaced them early in their car's life and they're now collecting dust.

That should get you started, anyways.
