pay to play. either you have a warranty or you pay off your car, otherwise it's just a risk you take. doing a build isn't as expensive as people think...

Friend was in the same situation with a blown motor on his 2004 sti, he sold it for $14,000.

If i was in your case, I would sell some of the parts to make up some money to rebuild the motor. No point in you selling the car as you'll loose too much unless you don't care =)

Why would you spend money on all those mods w/o having the car paid off??

Those are pretty standard mods, nothing overly expensive, or out of the ordinary. I MIGHT see someone asking that quesion about a widebody car with a 35r kit or something, but how many people on here pay off their car before modding

so spending $3K in mods on a car you owe $7K on makes sense? What planet are you from? Or am I one of the few financially responsible people living within their means left?

:raises hand:

The only "mod" i did before paying off my car was a short throw shifter. Personally, you can mod the car before paying it off if you can really cover the additional cost of a engine or tranny going fubar. Otherwise modding is not a wise move IMO.

I was modding within a week of buying my car. Who cares. My engine can go in 4 years stock. It could go in 4 years stage 4. Will I speed up the process this way, yes. But If I can put a couple grand into it for a new block who gives a crap. Why would I wait a few years to start enjoying my car. It's not fun stock. Not a wrx or an sti in my opinion. If someone mods there car while owing on it you just have to keep in mind you may have to fix something. Just like someone with a high mileage car keeps in mind. You don't say to yourself, why do you own a car with over 100k miles on it. Don't ya know your probably gonna have problems? Or, why are you driving on the road, don't you know you could get in an accident and mess your clean title up?? This is the same thing. It's all what ifs. Not starting a debate or arguing Danny. I was just giving a different point of view. I know lots of people that mod cars that are owed on. That is just MY opinion though.

Oh and OP, I say rebuild and keep enjoying your car. It will be paid off and the motor will be as good as new!

im stage 2 on a car i still owe 3 years on. you can mod without having the car paid off, personally i wish i would have waited but if i really wanted to i could revert to stock and still make some money on top. Buy used parts Ftw! Personally if you are in that much of a pickle take that kid on his offer for 7500 and get a new car... dont buy used internals or anything like that though.

Well I'm no expert on rebuilding, but if it was me, I would give a reputable engine building company a call/email. Names that come to mind are Axis/Raw1Performance, Crawford, and Crower. If it just recently happened, you may just be able to replace the pistons and rings, far cheaper than a complete engine overhaul. See what they can do for you and go from there buddy. And yeah that blows, but I don't think your mods were too ridiculous at all.

Yeah, I'd be bummed too. But seriously, give them a call, tell them what's happened, and see what they can do for you.

Just fix it and you'll basically have a brand new car. I never contemplate selling my car if it blows. You must not love your car that much. To me if mine blows, I'd be distraught, but the only thing I'd consider would be rebuilding. Or if I sold it, it would be rebuilding with all stock parts then selling to buy a sti and put the parts back on.

I'm not endorsing any vendor on here, but here is a rough price for you from Axis/Raw1.

CP Pistons w/ new rings and wrist pins will set you back $650.

Or you could get a new block with all kinds of goodies (pistons included) from them for $2500, or a new head w/ even more goodies for $3400.

These prices are straight off his website, so prices may differ depending on your wants/needs

If your going through an engine every 20k there's a problem haha. Your VERY lightly modded. On a good protune I don't see why you wouldn't run for years as long as you take care of her.
