the torque curve is the one that quickly peaks out and then proceeds in a flat manner

I didn't attend the dyno day, but am I free to put up my graph anyway?

Torque is the one that starts highest, HP steadily increases.

Bone stock 2006 2.5i impreza if anyone cares...

Now I just gotta figure out how to interpret these graphs better I guess the trick is to get the HP line higher (more, more!), and the torque curve flatter and higher, right? ie. more torque over a bigger rev range.

Only running my low boost map, as i'm running a new fuel map which I did not get all that much time to tune with the wideband a few weeks ago. Plenty of headroom here, I was between 2 and 3 psi shy of my targets.........i'm now targetting 18psi at 3500, 16.5psi at 4000 , 12.5psi at 6000 and 12psi at 7000 and it's pulling much harder than yesterday when I did the dyno run. No det, 94 octane.

Mods uppipe, downpipe, centre and muffler, Perrin IC silicon hoses, UTEC with me tuning.

UTEC log when I ran on the dyno, as you can see only getting into the 15's psi

Maximum torque arrives as early as 3000 RPM, nice and flat.

those plots are pretty cool. so with tD04 turbos we're looking at about a more-or-less 210 ft/lbs torque curve? buster and gethin are pretty close. personally that 2500-3500 RPM torque increase means little to me. I can't drive my car down there long enough for it to spool up anyway. And LFBin all the time is really really hard on the equipment!! Everyone know I like to take it easy on the gear.

Look at the torque curve on the 2.5i . . . that's pretty impressive!

I wonder why both my HP and torque plots dip around 4500rpm?

We can produce the dyno plots straight to JPG so people dont have to scan if you dont want to - just let us know and we can put it up (you need to PM jamie with the ID and run #s).

Note that we aren't using correction (because it is not proper to use it on the turbo cars) so day in to day out there is a small correction for ambient temp and pressure - but it is like 1-2% at least here in Squamish so there is not a lot of variance.

Banman, your car was detting at 4500 and pulling timing - that is why. All the runs did it so there was not much to do. 94 would help (I know its supposed to be a 91 map) :-). There are a couple of pretty fast WRXes out there so if the owners chime up maybe we can put them up.

Please check out the dyno FAQ here if you need to understand why the numbers read lower than Mustang or DP or Dynojet:

http://www.rocketrally.com/managed/m...geid-111.phtml

(questions 20-25). Mustang is typically 1.18 (regardless of how they profess it to be the lowest reading dyno). **we run normally zero correction**

Pat,

So will the ECU leave the timing retarded from then on, or will it advance the timing again below 4500rpm, or will it reset to default timing every time the car is started and only pull timing when it detects detonation?

Its way more complicated than that. It has nothing to do with re-starting the car either. Depending on how bad the det is, it can just pull timing instantaneously (temporarily, just for that moment), it can "learn" to pull timing in that range permanently (until reset), or it can lower the overall ignition advance, which lowers timing across the range. See questions 26-28 in the above FAQ link and the other FAQ I posted here on nasioc a while ago (i dont have the post # so I dont have the link).

Seems like there are a lot of cars with some detonation, myself included. I am sure the tune has a lot to do with it but I also remember seeing a thread some time ago about the 02's and the ECU only listening up to 5k rpm for knock as well as being more prone to it. Wonder if that may be a factor.

Are there any stock WRX plots available from this dyno (for comparison) ?

Stock WRX *with good gas and plugs with less than 80,000 km on them * normally pulls ~170 and of course does not audibly det. Cobb stage 2 is usually ~195-205 (depends on supporting mods) but normally with some boost oscillation. This is all with decent fuel. I dont know if I have saved any totally bone stock pulls as that is totally rare, but I have many pulls cars with catback and nothing else (~170-175), and also similar things with shelf maps. We have not had enough **totally** bone stock WRXes come up to have meaningful data (do such things exist ? if so see http://www.rocketrally.com/managed/Article25.phtml and call me). Even our 'sales' stuff is cat-back vs. cat-back + reflash. I can post it all if you want. Its all in the right range. These numbers are also within the same range as all the other DD dynos out there (dyno-comp, ktr, etc.). Stock STi 215-220. But people should remember what matters most is your car vs. before - every car is different ! I hesitate to post one singular example as opposed to lots of sample data because of this.

Banman, the 'cars that det' (there were 2) have nothing to do with limitations of the ECU - it has to do with the map in it and the condition of the car (plugs, cats, etc) and the fuel used. Pulling timing is NORMAL operation for the subaru ECU - it does it when it should ! You can reprogram all of those things - there are no limits on what you can do with regards to avoiding det in the ECU, so actually it is a DIRECT function of the map, the fuel used, and the condition of the playing factors (plugs, turbo and intercooler efficiency, etc.). Dont be discouraged if your car is not doing what you thought it should - the dyno is a tool here to give you insight into that. We have seen cars bone stock (not even bothered to put on the dyno) that dont run right and it has nothing to do with mods - because there aren't any ! But if the car is mechanically proper then the ECU and fuel is definitely a factor.

-Pat

Interesting to compare my results to the 2.5i.
Same engine but I have a pair of 48 IDA webers on mine.
A little more power but a lot more bottom end torque.
See picture of my project at

It's good for an untuned base run, but it's not the kind of power I'm happy with.

Interesting - comparing my car with hypa's car, my torque peak occurs earlier (3300 vs 3400-3500), but his horsepower peak occurs earlier (5400 vs 5900-6000)

banman, its not that interesting really. Boost spike/oscillation will do that.

see this link if you want to see more stuff
http://www.rocketrally.com/managed/i...age&pageid=116

I'm going to simplify that page but I am putting up all the data to keep the pundits away. All within 15 mins of each other (flash to flash to flash once I had the map done)

Thanks for that last link Pat makes for interesting study material and really shows the benefits of a custom tune.
