Wonderful. I'm glad morons like this are on the road. I hope he wasn't looking for sympathy. I'm glad to see there wasn't too much for him either. As much as it would have been horrible if he'd been injured, this is _not_ something to be done on public roads. Ever. It's sad to see when you run into the guy who really did worship the devil because heavy metal told him to (analogy here.)

Yeah, I didn't reply either. Nothing to say really. I am surprised the gaurdrail kept him on the correct side of the road to be honest. He & his buddies are very lucky.

I am just as guilty as anyone else for messing around, so this was in no way a "look at this idiot" post. It was more of a "wake up Nesic members (you know who you are) and take it easy".

Life is too short, insurance is too high, and living knowing you injured or killled someone else because your an idiot sucks bigass.

i wrote a response....that pisses me off

By the time I can afford a WRX of any kind, I will have to sell blood, sperm, kidneys, ect, ect just to pay the insurance! This might be going out on a limb, but I dont think most Americans can handle a car like the WRX. We havent grown up with real powerful 4-bangin japanese rockets (muscle cars are a different story), and any monkey can get a drivers license in the USA.

Agreed. You have attained a level of reason and maturity that the poster has not. I maintain that anyone who drives to excess without this revelation is an idiot.

not only does the driver have no regards for his own life and other motorists' lives on the public road, he actually dared to pull this stunt with 2 passengers in the car!! unbelievable!

I wanted to ask him how old he was, and if he paid for the car or not, but I figured, what is the point. I only hope he really does learn a lesson, and from the sounds of it I think he did. Not to give him any sort of credit, he did post it, and not once said, "those damn Re-92's" like we have all seen a million times.

Again, if anyone reads this and remembers it next time he/she thinks "I can catch that guy, or this looks like a fun public road", and backs off, it is a good thing. I am really glad he did post his story and was honest about it. How many of these do you think we don't hear about...

Did you guys see this picture:

This car has 850 miles on it and is for sale:
Old tread with picture: http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...threadid=66727

New Tread: http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...threadid=69162

I don't know what happend, but it just kill sme to see a new car like that.

Hey Paul, All i can say is it serves him right. I mean i don't like seeing anyone getting hurt but when your that dumb and try that stuff on the road your just asking for something like that to happen. The yellow car looked like mine when i spun out from some idiot leaving wood all over the highway it cost me $14,000 to fix , well my insurance company but i bet he didn't think about if he would have killed someone or one of his friends and then have to live with it. I got this feeling we'll be hearing alot about WRX's crashing. I mess around i'm not saying it's not fun but that is abit much

The other

Testing his drifting technique on a public highway, eh? People need to learn that they have limits as a driver that are usually lower than the limits of the car. Wonderfull, I can look forward to a hike in my insurance before 2002.

I can't even imagine trying this stuff on a street. If he's got $11K to fix it, he definately has a few grand to spend on advanced driving corses. Let's hope that's his next investment. [preach mode off :P]

I was reading this my humble 2 cents...

Many folks, not all but many, come from an RS that was modified to a certain extent. The RS is loud, you can hear the road noises, feel the steering vibrate etc. This is the same for folks that came from other cars as well. Com'on you bought a WRX for the turbo and speed.

The WRX, it's just so quiet and with the AC on it is hard to judge how fast you are really going. Sometimes I'm thinking the WRX is over-civilized.

NESIC members (and other members) be careful.. keep it on the track or in controlled enviroments.

NOTE: Don't defy the laws of physics... you will loose

You (experienced folks) didn't see this coming?????

With the come-on of Subaru's "rally-bred" tv ads (which seem to be on every 20 mins), and all the relatively new "member since" dates, you all know there seem to be a lot of new-to-Subaru owners out there driving these cars. And, there seem to already be a plethora of "my bad, my stupid, my etc." postings. Coincidence?

Great that they come with SCCA membership! Better they should come with a "WRX orientation" session or autocross or driver school entry!

This guy was very stupid, but very lucky; but I agree: What a waste!!!!!

As soon as I read "practice high speed drifting" I stopped reading the thread. - on a public highway?!, ridiculous...

All kids should have to learn on 80HP FWD cars, before ever attempting to drive a 220HP AWD car to it's limits.

I think this a quote from one of the many magazines that talk about the Impreza's handling...
"Take it right up to the edge, and the Impreza will make average driver look like a hero. Without driver training, and proper instincts you'll fall right off the other side."

Thumbs down I am at a loss for words.

Someone went out on the highway with a rear bar set to 24mm to practice drifting. On purpose.
