Closed Deck Cooper Oring + MLS gasket!
Hello ! I'm just starting to puzzle and engine build know , and i would like to do it right at once !
Looking wich route to take to max out my GTX3076R.82 gen 1 with all the supporting mods ! Route # 1 Oem MLS ej257 gasket + cooper oring on top ? Route # 2 JE PRO seal + cooper oring on top? For both setups would you recommended 1/2 , 13mm or 14mm studs? I know the IAG fire lock its the ultimate head gasket setup to date but I'm looking other options that proven to work Thanks in advance to point me in the right direction!!!

I had 14mm studs, JE pro seal, Copper Oring for 45k miles at 38-40psi with perfect compression before my GSC valvespring broke it is definitely a set up that works

I didnt go the copper oring route. However, i am using the JE/Athena fire ring gasket with 1/2 studs and have had no issues 45psi 750whp, 20 plus track passes and 2k miles of street driving.

I'd go RCM 14mm studs, JE pro seal/Athena, Copper Oring.
Athena also makes a fire-ring style headgasket. JE supposedly sells it now. |

ARP 2000 is the weakest, I would go at least ARP age 625 for anything above 30psi. I wouldn't go higher than 35psi even with those ARP 625 bolts because the higher boost pressures would rip the threads out. If you want higher boost pressure then you need to do IAG 14mm studs where they actually redrill new threads to accommodate the 14mm bolts

I'm running a GTX3576 with the JE Proseal gaskets. I didn't end up upgrading my head studs beyond the ARP2000s, so .... boost is capped to 30 PSI.
For 93 octane, my tuner limited boost to ~25 PSI, and then on e85 it's limited to 30. I know a local shop that has had good luck running the ARP age 625s with the IAG firelock gasket. They were able to push 38-40 PSI if I recall correctly. |

I think if I had to upgrade, I'd go Firelock with 14mm heads studs. I'd have IAG do all the machine work so there'd be no issues.
I don't think it's worth it to do copper o-ringing nowadays, given the availability of the firelock setup (just a personal preference I guess). |
