Engine rebuild question
I'm new to rebuilding subaru engines I have an 05 wrx the engine is going to need rebuilt soon its starting to go out I'm wanting to know what I should get to make it the most reliable I with the mods I have now and maybe a few extra right now there isn't much done other then EBCS,accsessport and a catless wide bellmouth down pipe and catless up pipe. I need to know everything that is safe to reuse and what would be the best option for parts upgrade to make the engine a better runner like I mentioned I'm very green with this so part brands and best parts yo upgrade without wrecking the wallet thanks

Engine rebuild question
There are so many threads like this one, you can find the answers you seek searching right here. But let’s see what it is you should do. What is your budget for your new motor venture ?
Sounds like you want to keep it with the stock turbo and basic stage 2 power level, correct ? How many miles on your motor now ? Is your stock turbo as old as your motor ? Is your current motor consuming oil between oil change intervals ? Do you believe your turbo can be used on your new motor ? Are you planning on doing the engine removal and tear down yourself ? Let’s just start there and get some answers. |

Yes i plan on keeping about a stage 2 power range the engine and turbo both have e 135,000 miles its not consuming much oil if any I don't have a specific limit on price but I would like to keep it as low as possible without making a trash engine I will do the dismantle and everything myself

We don't know you wants, use case or budget. The very best thing you can get is a leased Hewland dogbox from Prodrive. They are $75,000. That would suit you with an unlimited budget and a desire to dominate the rally circuit.
Without wants, use case or budget, the answer you seek is not the answer you expect. It is built the motor appropriately. Unless you are going for 500, just get some pistons, have the heads get an OEM refresh and be done with it. Replace everything rubber throughout the vehicle. Brand new MAF, turbo inlet and BCS. Custom tune to 85-90% of its potential. Then drive it nicely never stomping the gas when in 5th gear or higher depending on your transmission. The real killer of Subarus is the owner's right foot. |

Sounds to me like you don’t need a new engine nor rebuild. Sounds to me like you have a perfectly good motor with only 135,000 miles. Sounds to me like you can continue to take care of your motor and it’ll take care of you. An ej205 with consistent oil changes and good quality oil will go well over 200,000 miles. Make sure to keep an eye on oil level, I’ve been using Mobil 1 0w40 with good results. Don’t use Mobil 1 5w30. |

What makes you think you need a new engine? People, myself included, have gotten well over 200k on a stock engine at stage 2 power levels just by doing basic maintenance. So why do you need a new engine?

I have a 02 WRX that I bought new. Rebuilt in 2010. Still going strong.
Advice given based on you stated power level 1. What is wrong with your engine? I would be ideal to do a baseline loggiing run, before engine build. Have some one look at it to seem the state of the engine. These things tend to go over budget. 2. Other items that need replacing Plan on replacing all rubber pipes, coolant pipes, manifold exhaust gaskets. The air lines(10mm) would have deteriorated. Once you move them, they will break. Clean IACV turbo intake pipe your tgvs may have given up the ghost. rebuild info At that power level OEM item are fine. you may look into forged pistons. i like cp I like acl bearings. check water pump check oil pump. check oil pickup tube. check radiator check a/c condensor check for coolant leaks check for intake pressure leaks check oem bov clean boost solenoid get block line honed if you rebuild it before it goes boom, you can reuse the oem heat interchanger. You cannot/should not reuse oem head bolts. I would get arp. They work out the same price. Do not get the arp case bolts. You may want to do clutch while you are there. OEM is best at the power level replace fuel pump Servicing service oem injectors. clean tmic www.hpacademy.com has some great free content. Hm this is my third time typing this. It does not want to save Last edited by runner19; 02-16-2021 at 12:58 PM. |
