I have seen OEM new ej207 shortblocks for sale on both sides of the pond. Flatirons Tuning is one of the US retailers I saw.

Not sure if this is the same as the JDM EJ207....
https://www.flatironstuning.com/genu...embly-gdb-v7-8

For that price I could get the EJ257 block from Outfront with custom CP pistons for use with 2.0 heads....

Default EJ207 Info

Id be going the proper hybrid route in your situation. But first I’d fight them for a motor replacement or full refund.

I don't think they have any more 207's so I'll see about getting a full refund. I will have to eat the shipping though

Talk to JDMNEWYORK.com, I purchased a good motor from them recently, very fairly priced. Avoid NAGOYA.

You can also get the v10 short block through Flatirons which has thicker cyl walls.

Would the v10 shortblock work with the older v9 heads without modification? For the same price I could get the outfront block which has forged pistons installed.

Yes, you can use that. If you bought the short motor from the UK you could save $800 on your USA supplier prices right now.

That's a lot cheaper than what FlatIrons is advertising...but shipping would kill the deal I bet.

Thinking about it, you'll probably have import duties to pay. Our UK price has already had the import duties paid for Japan to UK, but you would probably be hit with an additional UK to USA duty on top, where as your domestic supplier should only have the Japan to USA duty to pay. This kind of suggests higher profit margins are being taken by the USA supplier, unless there are extra charges applied i am not aware of peculiar to the USA movement of car parts.

UK has also just signed an FTA with Japan effective Jan 01 2021 which drops the 10% import duty on some auto parts, not sure if this applies to short blocks currently. By 2026 car part and complete car import duty drops to zero, so cheaper JDM cars for us.

This probably explains it...

"In May 2019, one year after the start of an investigation by the U.S. Department of Commerce under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (19 U.S.C. §1862), President Trump proclaimed motor vehicle and parts imports, particularly from Japan and the EU, a threat to U.S. national security."

UK has also just applied to join the CPTPP which is a trade block between Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam. This is the block that originally intended to have the USA as a member known as TPP.

If Biden changes the USA approach of late and joins this block, it could help us all trade with lower taxes, which would be great for USA/UK trade.

Trump wanted to do a deal with UK but the pissing about our lot did trying to overturn the Brexit vote lost us two years, so that never could happen.

OTT i suppose for the thread but interesting potential developments for us JDM car enthusiasts.

It's not far off topic for this thread considering we are talking about import JDM parts and wondering why the prices are becoming astronomical now....seems like USA got screwed with no trade deals in place now

Still not sure why your shortblock prices are so high. US$ against the Yen has been falling since 2017, its about 10% less now than then, as US$ drops, which is likely IMHO, your prices for imports are going up.

UK has had a very tough 4 years since the Brexit vote in terms of value of the £ compared to USA and Japan, but the £ is now back to the same value as in 2017 against the Yen and is gaining on the US$, so our import prices are dropping. This last calendar year its lowest was 1.14:1, it's now 1.41:1 so our import costs for anything priced in US$ has gone down 23% in the last year. the UK £ is very nearly the same as it was just before the vote to leave the EU and as the vaccine rollout continues (which UK is doing incredibly well with, especially compared to the EU) i expect it's going to continue to climb as we open up our economy whilst EU looks to be going badly wrong and will be getting worse.

Just an update I decided to take the timing cover off and start it up again just to be sure it wasn't the tensioner making racket. Confirmed the tensioner is in fact good. Drained the oil and saw the sparklies so also confirmed it's rod bearing. Still waiting on a resolution from the seller and I've started getting ready to pull the motor back out.

The valve corrosion would have been the trigger to send that motor back, I’m surprised you persisted on it.

If I were in your spot I’d consider getting a jdm ej205 avcs motor with S20 heads for $850, dismantle the motor and use the the heads and all avcs parts, intake manifold and harness. Have the heads refreshed and matched to an RA ej257 short block. Run it Hybrid with functional avcs. You’d essentially have a brand new motor.

Yeah I thought that the water intrusion didn't get past the intake valves but now I'm starting to think that water maybe went into the cylinder and there could be corrosion inside there. I think you're right and I'm going to try to send it back now.

Hoping to get some feedback from some of you who do track days.

I'm looking into doing a flex fuel set up for my 207. This won't be for increasing power much but to help cool the combustion chamber during hard use. I may ask the tuner to see what we can do to increase average torque a bit but my overall thought process is to run roughly an E40 blend during track days. This seems to be about where I'd see benefits from ethanol but without draining my tank ridiculously fast during the day. Thoughts and recommendations appreciated.

If you’re not looking for ridiculous power / torque increase then an e20-30 blend would be more than sufficient for raising your knock threshold and helping cool combustion.

This is why I was looking at a flex fuel tune. Eliminates the need for me to measure and check the blend coming out of the pump. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that was whole point of having a flex fuel tune.

Currently at 330/266 with a 20g xtr on a 91oct tune and feel I'm pretty close to where I want to be for the tracks in run. I wouldn't mind getting my average torque up by 10% for coming out of corners but it's not something I need if it's going to create any issues.

This was another option I'm considering. But right now I can only afford one or the other as I have to replace my track wheels. They didn't clear my brake upgrade. I'll keep an eye out for your results.

I agree, But here in Socal I see 80% year around, but the weird thing about e85 is the hotter your fuel gets the high the ethanol percentage is
