Took it by a local shop. Computer diagnostics shows air/fuel sensor upstream! Aka 02 sensor. 450.00 quote to fix

Sounds crazy high. You should just be able to buy a replacement and install it in 5 minutes yourself.

The cheapest one i could find was 139.99 at advanced it was a denso direct fit oem! It took the vehicle a day or so to relearn. Gas mileage seems to be getting better everytime i drive it.

Has anyone had any power loss with installing just a muffler? I was told that putting a muffler on a 2004 Impreza Outback 2.5L, without any other mods, would cause a decrease in power. Can anyone support this?

At first i did (lost power after installing mufflers). But come to find out it was an 02 sensor in the front. I lost a crap ton of power and gas mileage went to crap. Had it checked via computer. It was front o2 sensor. Gas mileage is back and its scary almost how much power it has!

But let me explain what i did.

On my N/A 2010 Forester it had 2.25" piping all the way from the header to about just past the rear resontor. From there it decreased in diameter to 1.75" and formed a y shape and went into the mufflers. So we cut the 1.75" piping mufflers and all off at where it begain to taper. The muffler shop then ran 2" piping and welded it in place of the 1.75" piping. From there they welded on one AP exhaust Big Max Xcelerator Turbo muffler with 2" inlet on each side. Then installed magnaflow tips on it. Now with the 02 sensor fixed, and a grimm speed light weight crank pulley installed it flies for an N/A and now gas mileage is coming back after o2 sensor replacement!

I could see how if you ran say a complete 2.5" catback exhaust all the way to the mufflers and ran 2.5" inlet mufflers on an N/A that you could lose power but keeping the main pipe 2.25" until it hits the y and upgrading just the y part to say 2" and adding mufflers which is essentially an axle back no i cant see how you could!

This might be a dumb question, but what exactly is a "Grimm speed light weight crank pulley"?

On a side note anyone know what causes that slight delay in throttle response when first taking off? If you take off from a light with the pedal to the floor it feels like the vehicle will stall then suddenly the rpms will jump to about 4,000 and it goes. With the lightened crank pulley it hits zero to 40 mph quick! But that slight delay has always been there since i first bought it.

Indeed. It is a dumb question. Grimmspeed is a brand. A lightweight pulley basically does the same thing as a regular pulley, but being lighter weight reduces parasitic drag from the crank, so basically you get a small % of HP increase. Not much really, but combined with other mods it helps towards higher NA power, which is a little bit harder to do with subaru NA engines ...

anyway, carry on...
