Default Wanting to Purchase a GC8 WRX STI. (Common Problems) (Aftermarket Support)

Thinking about Importing a GC8 WRX STI, sedan, what are common problems? and where would I buy most aftermarket parts if I chose to mod it? Not much I can find by a basic web search. But looking at if I do purchase it, I'll probably stick to Coilovers, Wheels, and maybe look into simple power mods, Exhaust/Intake/Headers/Tune ETC not looking to go crazy, but wanting to turn a few bolts for fun on the weekend.

I don't have an STI just a WRX, but following issues/maintenance items I've had:
  • MAF sensor goes bad, at least on the 99/00 models
  • knock sensor goes bad

  • power steering reservoir leaking (oring between reservoir and pump)
  • power steering cooler drawing in air (just need better hose clamps)
  • air con tensioner pulley bearing dry (i put in a new bearing)
  • cv boot tear
  • plastic turbo t-piece leaking (replace with brass one)

On the to-do list;
  • valve covers leaking
  • coolant crossover pipe leaking

for the price of an import an 02-06 WRX donor car and a clean US GC8 body should be considered. in fact you can run a turbo on a MAF NA ecm and tune. just not huge boost and injectors, etc.

That would be a sad substitute for a GC/GM STI using the MAF NA ecm. No where near the same power as the stock STI or power potential.

If you are deadset on a JDM STI, good luck. They are rare. If you want an awesome 2001 coupe with a 2007 EJ255 drivetrain swap, I have a friend who is looking to sell his. LMK.
