Default EJ20g/k ignition coil conversion/upgrade

Alright I'm having this misfire issue that I believe could be my coil pack. I'm fairly sure it is, but even if it is not I believe doing this would be an upgrade anyways.

I have the EJ20G in a Forester S/tb so it has the EJ20K block and some of the updating designs (intercooler/intake etc.) but the EJ20G heads.

It has the ignition coil right ontop the intake manifold in the middle like this.

I could simply replace the coil but it's expensive & from over-seas (shipping duties etc.)

Does anybody know of a good guide I could use to convert this to the 04+ individual coils? I was told this is a good upgrade & if I am spending the money I'd rather it be on an upgrade anyways.

Thanks guys

Nobody eh

I was looking at this write up:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1192028

but I'm not sure if this would work for me since I have just the ignition coil with ignitor all in one which then has ignition wires going straight to the plugs... so it's spark plug diectly contacting ignition wires. It looks from this write up like the 20g has spark plug to some sort of coil already and then the ignitor is ontop?

Alright I'm having this misfire issue that I believe could be my coil pack, but even if it is not I believe doing this would be an upgrade anyways. First off I don't care about saving money this isn't my daily.

I was looking at this write up:
ej20G coil conversion - NASIOC

but I'm not sure if this would work for me since I have just the ignition coil with ignitor all built in to one unit which then has ignition wires going straight to the plugs... so it's spark plug directly contacting ignition wires. It looks from this write up like the 20g has spark plug to some sort of coil already and then the ignitor is ontop?

Can I make mine like the new style with the individual ignitor & coil all in one per spark plug?

the coil is the same as 1998 impreza 2.5rs. I replaced mine with beck arnley 178-8202, its a direct fit.

Another options is upgrading to an MSD coil off a Dodge Neon. It's cheaper then an OEM unit and gets you an extra 8,000 volts. I've been running one on my EJ25d for 2 years. http://m.ebay.com/itm/111332406408?f...7CModel%3ANeon [

Some time passed since this but just curious which way you decide at the end!
I'm in the same dilema, as have been thinking about doing this or no! Have heard about the MSD but was looking some info about it...I think I will go with the MSD as all tutorials found lead to the ones as EJ20G ignitor while seems no one had tried the conversion on EJ20k... will look forward for your reply!
