The only thing I gathered from that video is that the throws of the shifter are short. Meh about the e-brake induced oversteer.

The good part about the E-brake is that when pulled, the rear axle is decoupled; it gives the driver more control of the vehicle, or in reality more ways to control the vehicle. In my former 06 WRX wagon, although there were no nannies, I had to use the e-brake sparingly when correcting the cars trajectory, as it would slow the front axle if used for too long due to the nature of the AWD system. Yeah it can be used to hoon, but in reality, it's a better system for controlling each end of the car independently. |

Look at that trash car. I can't believe Toyota bothered making it. The market is already saturated with fun, AWD, compact, manual, performance cars.

Should have had a angry mob storm Toyota USA headquarters after teasing the possibility of bringing it here - instead the US will get the rumored half-assed Corolla substitute they are promising.

That rear shot is awesome. There’s no way the next gen sti compares to this. Even if it’s faster.

For a company like Toyota that’s hardly pennies.. Such a shame, so many scandals from so many manufacturers and all you have to do is give some $$$$ for it to go away. |

https://arstechnica.com/cars/2021/01...with-epa-regs/ This appears to have the details. Automakers are required to report to the EPA if there are a certain number of certain types of defects. They were reporting defects to CARB but not meeting the regulations of reporting them to the EPA as well. They eventually did report them, likely when someone internally noticed the gap, but they were outside of the requirement window, hence the fine. Less likely intentional malfeasance; more likely ignorance/incompetence. |

That's a reasonable drop; looks good to me, I don't think the average person (or even some enthusiasts) would be able to tell it isn't stock.

I have always marveled at people that obsess about this. They must not drive their car anywhere but the shops. You push the corners in twisties, canyons, or mountain driving, you need the full suspension travel.

I hate H&R lowering springs. I've read about different suspension setups over the years and usually went with an aftermarket strut and spring combo (FXT and BRZ). With my Impreza I wanted to try lowering springs just to see for myself how good or bad they were... HELLLLLLL NO. It's pretty much as Pre said, but even then it's actually worse than that if the ingress and egress aren't compatible with lowered cars. Add to that the random road bumps (New England, east coast in general, and anywhere with frost heaves) and you're looking at constant pain.
I do my best to steer people away from lowering springs since I allowed myself the firsthand experience, but for pretty much everyone it comes down to image and cost. They want the image for as little cost as possible. For my money I'd rather save up for at least $1k coilovers. I kind of feel like if that's too much of a stretch for someone then they should probably stay away from modding altogether. That's just my experience and opinion though. |
