The only thing I gathered from that video is that the throws of the shifter are short. Meh about the e-brake induced oversteer.

I didn't watch the video yet:

The good part about the E-brake is that when pulled, the rear axle is decoupled; it gives the driver more control of the vehicle, or in reality more ways to control the vehicle. In my former 06 WRX wagon, although there were no nannies, I had to use the e-brake sparingly when correcting the cars trajectory, as it would slow the front axle if used for too long due to the nature of the AWD system.

Yeah it can be used to hoon, but in reality, it's a better system for controlling each end of the car independently.

In my 08 Forester XT I had to use the e-brake to control a slide in traffic that would've ended horribly otherwise. Stupid ice + ruts = potentially bad time.

Litchfield Working On Toyota GR Yaris Upgrades, Has Already Boosted It To 300

The Toyota GR Yaris is one of those cars that are simply destined to be tuned and UK’s Litchfield Motors is one of the first to announce their work on the little pocket rocket.

The tuning company has purchased two examples of the Japanese hot hatch to simultaneously develop packages for the chassis and the engine and has already extracted 300 HP from its 1.6-liter three-cylinder, up from the factory’s 257 HP, with a simple tuning box that’s currently receiving its final calibration before going on sale.

Litchfield notes that it will take some time to crack the factory Denso ECU in order to offer OBD tuning packages, but their partners are putting the final details on a plug-and-play replacement ECU for those who want to extract even more power from the little Yaris.

In addition to the engine tuning, Litchfield has partnered with Nitron to develop a series of suspension kits and handling setup packages. The company’s initial goal here is to offer an improved ride quality and sharper responses from the chassis and so far, the white car with the prototype suspension performs exactly like that.

The black car currently has the 300 HP tune while the white one wears the prototype Nitron suspension

Litchfield will eventually offer both 3-way and a 2-way Nitron suspension kits for the GR Yaris, which features solid mounts, big wheel articulation, and wide tracks right from the factory, making it a truly great platform for mods.

Toyota Unveils 2021 Yaris WRC Race Car With New Livery

Toyota Gazoo Racing has unveiled the Yaris WRC car it will compete with in the 2021 FIA World Rally Championship.

The Japanese car manufacturer had initially planned to enter the 2021 season with a WRC version of the new-generation Yaris (the car that led to the creation of the road-going GR Yaris), but this project was killed off. Instead, Toyota will continue to race with its previous-gen Yaris, albeit now updated with a livery similar to that worn by the new GR010 Hybrid designed for the Le Mans Hypercar class of the World Endurance Championship.

Over the past four WRC seasons, Toyota has claimed 17 victories and 322 stage wins with its current Yaris race car. It also secured the manufacturers’ title in 2019 and has won back-to-back drivers’ and co-drivers’ crowns in 2019 and 2020.

New for the 2021 car is the fitment of Pirelli tires, as the Italian company is now the sole tire supplier for the World Rally Championship.

No changes have been made to Toyota’s driver line-up. As such, Sebastien Ogier will continue to race alongside co-driver Julien Ingrassia while Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin will partner up once again. Toyota’s third car will be driven by Kalle Rovanperä and Jonne Halttunen.

Look at that trash car. I can't believe Toyota bothered making it. The market is already saturated with fun, AWD, compact, manual, performance cars.

Should have had a angry mob storm Toyota USA headquarters after teasing the possibility of bringing it here - instead the US will get the rumored half-assed Corolla substitute they are promising.

That rear shot is awesome. There’s no way the next gen sti compares to this. Even if it’s faster.

It’s not unless Subaru brings it here with their badging (rumors of this but I don’t believe them).

+ Toyo just got something like 180 million in fines by the EPA for cheating.

For a company like Toyota that’s hardly pennies.. Such a shame, so many scandals from so many manufacturers and all you have to do is give some $$$$ for it to go away.

https://arstechnica.com/cars/2021/01...with-epa-regs/

This appears to have the details. Automakers are required to report to the EPA if there are a certain number of certain types of defects. They were reporting defects to CARB but not meeting the regulations of reporting them to the EPA as well. They eventually did report them, likely when someone internally noticed the gap, but they were outside of the requirement window, hence the fine.

Less likely intentional malfeasance; more likely ignorance/incompetence.

This all-wheel drive system is also said to have rear-biased torque and limited-slip differentials on both ends could be optional.
If this is true, then the GR Yaris will have around 20 hp more than the new Volkswagen Golf GTI and, not to mention, a permanent AWD system found on the more expensive Golf R.

That's a reasonable drop; looks good to me, I don't think the average person (or even some enthusiasts) would be able to tell it isn't stock.

I have always marveled at people that obsess about this. They must not drive their car anywhere but the shops. You push the corners in twisties, canyons, or mountain driving, you need the full suspension travel.

I hate H&R lowering springs. I've read about different suspension setups over the years and usually went with an aftermarket strut and spring combo (FXT and BRZ). With my Impreza I wanted to try lowering springs just to see for myself how good or bad they were... HELLLLLLL NO. It's pretty much as Pre said, but even then it's actually worse than that if the ingress and egress aren't compatible with lowered cars. Add to that the random road bumps (New England, east coast in general, and anywhere with frost heaves) and you're looking at constant pain.

I do my best to steer people away from lowering springs since I allowed myself the firsthand experience, but for pretty much everyone it comes down to image and cost. They want the image for as little cost as possible. For my money I'd rather save up for at least $1k coilovers. I kind of feel like if that's too much of a stretch for someone then they should probably stay away from modding altogether. That's just my experience and opinion though.
