g_nutter's 2006 WRB STi Journal
The time has come to finally start a journal on here. I've been meaning to ever since I got the car home but haven't been able to with school being so busy. Finals are over now and I have a few weeks off so now is the time!
Bit of a background: The hawkeye Subaru has been my dream car ever since seeing Ken Block's gymkhana practice video in 4th grade computer lab. I still remember thinking how cool the wing and boxy fenders were back then, and still think they're cool now! Drawing from lunch in elementary school Same car, day after I got my wisdom teeth out in high school My first car was a 2006 Impreza 2.5i that over time morphed into pretty much how I would like the STi to look someday. BBS, mudflaps, wing, lowered, exhaust, etc. Pretty simple but very clean in my personal opinion. I still drive it every day, and love it just as much as I did on day one! Fast forward to picking up the new car: Picked up from Performance Auto Gallery in Gaithersburg, Maryland with 37,015 miles on the odometer. Originally from Austin, Texas without any rust, and completely stock. Exactly what I was looking for! Drove home to north west PA and stopped by University Park to get some cool photos. The car is already parked for the season so unfortunately, I won't be able to get it out again until spring. Only "mod" so far is some mudflaps, but more will come with time. I don't have any intentions of selling it so I'm in no hurry to change anything.

Thank you all, I knew WRB was the one when I saw a local 05 STi in the same color a few years ago. I'm excited to modify the car more in the future and make it my own. Recently I've been getting more interested in some of the JDM optioned parts that were available when the cars were new. I've been half looking for an S202 axleback but I'm not 100% sure I want to go that direction with the exhaust yet. Unfortunately the Blitz Nur Spec R catback is no longer available, it's the one straight exit exhaust I was really a fan of. Always liked the Invidia N1 as well but it's a lot more common.

I didn’t realize that the Blitz NUR Spec cat back was discontinued. Love mine, I’ve had it for at least 8 years now

My business partner’s husband has an 05 all original never modified wrb STi with less than 60,000 miles on the clock. I will buy it when he decides he wants to let it go. I keep reminding him I’m first in line for it. I will not modify it, I will keep it all stock as it always has been, I look forward to it.

Back again, school started up again so my free time has been dramatically reduced Last semester though so I can't really complain that much.
Started the car yesterday, I've been trying to do it every week or two. Still probably 3 months before it will leave the barn and be on the road again, the salt on northwestern PA roads isn't nice to vehicles. Got a couple photos with my 24mm prime lens. The low-light sensitivity in both of the prime lenses I have always impresses me. Where she's been sitting for about 3 months The shading really makes my want to find the STi Limited or S204 center console.... with time I guess. Favorite gauge cluster by far! Aaaand my new phone background |

Good pics, and I don’t blame you for leaving it safe from the weather/ salt right now.

Small update. It hit 70 degrees here today! This was the first time I've pulled the car out of the barn since the start of November, so it's been a while since it's seen any sun
I got some of the black OEM STi floor mats for Christmas but couldn't put them in with the space available around the car. With the warm weather, now was the time! It was also nice to take a break in between online classes. Other things still to do that I can currently think of: 04/05 STi taillights Red/Gold BBS Center Caps (original inspiration from JeffrWRX) Timing belt AC belt Oil change Just got pictures with my phone today, I'll use the DSLR more in the future. First time seeing sun in quite a while... New vs old. Nothing wrong with the blue, I just prefer the black. Helps to break up the rest of the blue in the interior. The extra bracket that mounts to the seat rail is a nice touch as well. The car has the factory subwoofer underneath the drivers seat which is great, but unfortunately meant that the new mat with the extra material would not fit. Oh well, I'll never see it and I doubt anyone will ever notice unless I point it out. Aaaand all finished! I'm happy with how they turned out More things to come in the future, hopefully we'll get a couple good rain storms that will clean off the roads more, still a lot of salt residue everywhere. |

Thanks everyone! I agree, there can't be many GD STis left in this condition. I consider myself lucky to have this one every time I see it!
Another small update. Sold the Pirelli all seasons that were on the car to a friend in my local Subaru group, which means new tires inbound for me! Having competed in autox events over the last three years I've become familiar with the RE-71R that almost everyone seems to run. I haven't used them personally, but I've ridden in some other cars that had them. I had narrowed down the options for myself to the Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R and Falken Azenis RT660. After spending a couple hours doing some research on each, comparisons between the two, and comparisons to the Federal 595RS-R (what I run on the Impreza) I came to the conclusion that the RE-71Rs are going to be the one to go with. RE-71Rs in a 235/45r17 should be here within a week or so if Amazon's shipping estimate is correct. I'm excited to get them mounted and see how they look/drive once more summer weather rolls around here to stay. Last but not least, what would a post be like without some photos, right? My first time actually putting a car on jack stands... was a little nervous but it all worked out. Thanks NASIOC for helping me confirm the jack points and everything (Forums > Facebook groups) Forgot about these little things, I think I swapped them out late fall from the original caps. Very minute detail, BUT it's an OEM part from Subaru which I think is cool. First time getting to see what the red/gold BBS center caps will look like with the gold BBS wheel.... I'm excited! Small test fit to see what they look like on the car, can't wait to get them all on with the new tires! That's it for now, thanks for looking! |

Two tires have arrived! Other two should be here tomorrow, then mounting and balancing either Tuesday night or Wednesday. I'm excited to finally get them on the car.
