Default Can you change the plastic cam gear to a metal?

Hello all,

I have a 2009 Impreza I am rebuilding its engine, I accidentally screwed up the right cam gear. I have another EJ25 sitting in my yard that has a cam pulley but that pulley is a little different.

Here is a picture of the cam gears, https://imgur.com/a/ukkVO9r The plastic one is the one I messed up. Would it be fine to run the metal one instead of the plastic one?

I have counted they both seem to have the same amount of teeth on both gears.

Check the offset of the cam gear. You counted the teeth that’s good but those teeth need to be the exact same size and depth as the stock gear. And lastly make sure that the timing marks are in the same place! Other than that you shouldn’t have a problem, make sure to torque them so you don’t have a world of problems if it gets lose even medium strength thread locker!
