Purchased a boat in 2020. Decided to relocate in 2022, boat is still in the same place. Need to find time to drive to old location and service said boat in order to sell it. No where to park it at new location. Should have just rented a boat!

Going down a youtube rabbit hole has me wanting to sell my house, move to the bahamas, and buy a boat to live on.

You certainly see the pro's of those scenarios. I've watched several of the youtubers that live on boats. Several of them are quite open about the pitfalls of living a mobile lifestyle on the water. Others make it sound so dreamy. Like all of the people that talk about van life and then forgot to mention sleeping in Walmart parking lots or roadside ****s.

I've signed up to do a sailboat race on Saturday. Thirty miles around an island. Tacoma, around Vashon, and back to Tacoma for those familiar with the Puget Sound. Today, I moved my boat down close to the start so I can just hop over there for the race. Noticed my speed and depth aren't working, so it sounds like I probably have barnacles down there. Barnacles on the hull is not a great start to trying to be fast. Oh, and my family (wife and 2 kids) are my crew. They'll probably be trying to keep warm down below. This should be interesting...

Good luck!

If you get under there with a scraper, make sure you scrape bow-stern and not across the hull.

I've seen race crews tear hull cleaning divers a new one for making scratches in the anti-fouling paint that weren't aligned with the flow under the hull.

Over the winter one of my hydraulic tilt cylinders started leaking. It should have been easy to just pull the cylinders ram and piston to replace the seals, but I ended up having to take apart the steering mechanism and loosen the engine mounting bolts. That let it sag away from the boat just enough to tilt it up the bare minimum needed.

Took 2 afternoons, but it's done. Since I had everything apart anyway, I took the opportunity to clean up some corrosion, repaint some smaller parts, and grease the living hell out of everything.

Bleeding the air out was a beotch, but it worked out in the end.

Next weekend will be wash & wax time.

I miss my 22ft pontoon.

I do not miss:
Maintenance- I'd clean the seats, viny floor/ carpeting, and engine yearly.
Paying $3000-$5000 dock fee
Only getting to use it every so often

Still have my center console sitting in the driveway. Haven't used it in 3 years.

I should sell it but...I don't know. I want to use it but it hurts me too bad getting it back on the trailer.

This year sucked maintenance wise, had to do the timing belts and tensioners and Yamaha knows they can bend you over. The dark blue fiberglass had also faded along the sides so I learned how to wet sand . Did that followed by a compound and wax plus a ceramic spray and it looks new. I hope the fish appreciate a shiny boat.

I have to do the polishing compound, cleaner wax, and then topcoat with high gloss polish in the sping.

That makes the faded areas look brand new.

For a month.

It's still shiny thru the summer, but not brand new shiny.

By the time I haul it out in late fall, the faded areas need waxing again. But there's no point doing it until the Spring.

I've tried all manner of spray-on products over the summer to try and maintain it. But nothing works. The basecoat wax is too good. It just makes any liquid product bead up and run off.

Mine started looking rough about a year ago, so it looked okay for the first 2 years I owned it (boat is 18 years old) and it had just been detailed when I got it. I washed with Orpine and waxed with Collinite twice a year. This time I used some 3M compound, the Collinite, and a 303 ceramic-like spray on top. If I could post pics I would, it looks phenomenal. If it makes it two more years without needing another compound job I’ll take it.

I tried the F-11 stuff and it worked great on my boat. I put it on 2 years ago and it is still shiny like I put it on yesterday. (Yes, my boat hasn't left the driveway but still, 2 years)

Mine is on a lift, which makes it really hard to do the hull. I did a deep clean of the inside a week or so ago: Clean and Woody Wax the inside, including the insides of all the hatches and compartments and the bilge, and cleaned all of the cushions (Nautical One works really well).

Mine is on a lift May thru Dec. I always pull it out over the holidays to have it in the driveway where I can work on the inevitably broken stuff.

I keep it under a semi-fitted boat cover on the lift to keep the birds and UV off of it.

A new boat that doesn't get waxed at least once a year looks like it's a 20yr old boat by the 2yr mark. The UV and salt is brutal.

I don't even own a trailer.

I do have it hauled once a year and serviced and detailed.

For insurance, I needed a hurricane plan, so I wrote:
"I have a full tank of gas, a half pack of cigarettes, and I am wearing sunglasses. Hit it!"

I swear to sweet baby Jesus that the plan flew with Progressive on their app, got my policy, although I did get a call from an agent and I had to explain that I did not have a trailer.
