I dont think a PW setup is pipe dream, I looked at there kit a lot when I was researching the design for mine, I'm jealous of that angled radiator. But I do think they are pushing it calling that a V-Mount. My intercooler and radiator form a 90 degree angle when viewed from the side, thus the V name.

No real updates right now, I'm in the process of moving into a space just for fabrication. I have received an intercooler core from vibrant to replace the crap one I had before off eBay.

v mounts aren't as efficient as many people crack them up to be... its harder for air to flow throw the cores when it needs to make such a turn.
i am building a wrc style set up. similar to the process west, with the same angled core but custom designed rad and intercooler.
you should look into it more...

Yeah it's a pretty wide V heh, did you happen to dig up any info on weather or not it would fit a GR with little or no modification? I.e. keeping bumper beams etc.

I need to give them a call and see whats what.

It also looks like getting a custom setup built would be about the same price as the PW unit, so I have a feeling thats the rout Im going. It's expensive, like 3K, but that includes fans and everyhting and when you consider a front mount is 1 - 1.5 K and a radiator is ~400 without fans it starts to look almost reasonable, almost. :P

which wrc car are you referencing? and as with any setup there are pros and cons. For example my setup, the has to make a turn to get through the core but that air is clean for both the rad and intercooler. A typical front mount the air pass's through the front mount and then the radiator. I played with the idea of the vertical PW style mounting of the intercooler but having it on an angle lets me get in a slightly taller core and makes the end tanks a smoother design.

And no I did not look into if the PW kit fits a GR, I like to build my own stuff and if anything I think my setup will end up cheaper. Since I don't have to pay myself labor time. My car also has the intake reversed. The GR headlights being so long and leaving a relatively small opening in the grill compromises the design. A bugeye would be an awesome platform, much more room to play with

S7 - S9.
Yeah I am building most of the stuff myself except for the tig welding cause I still haven't learnt that.
The garrett cores are super efficient. Mine is only 6.3h x 3.5h x 24l, and supports 550hp at the crank. So like 400 whp.
How much power are you looking for

Edit I just saw you power goal you could easily use that same small core

The core I have is 9.25 x 22 x 3.25, should be good for my goals. It's going to be a tight fit but I also have cusco engine/trans mounts so my engine doesn't mover to much

I've always dreamed of a v-mount setup. V-Mounted the radiator and ac condensor but never got to turbocharging it to mount the intercooler lol.

Did you end up removing a/c? Or Relocating?

The AC has been out of the car for a while now, If you really wanted a V-Mount with AC is possible. Keeping the AC with the reversed manifold is another set of hurdles, in all it could be done. I just don't care for it

Update:

Got the new shop operational enough to make some progress,

New parts came in,

Mocking up pipes for the intercooler, its tight clearing the hood.

I tacked together the end tanks, started with a cross section of 6" pipe and sheet aluminum.

Then chopped off the top corners so it fits nice,

There is a new distraction in the shop, she loves to chew my shoes laces while I TIG

Didn't have to much time today but I got to mock up the hard return line for the BOV. I had kinking issues before with using a hose so decided to go with an aluminum pipe this time around. You can see it running under and around the back of the intake manifold

Its actually 3 pieces to give it some flex and make it easier to install. I plumbed it into the intake as far away from the MAF as I could get it

^^^ thanks, still learn everyday

With some "trimming" the hood closes now, also finished off all the AL welding today. Reminder to any welders, clean it clean it clean it

I have a cheap ebay mesh grill to mount tomorrow. That's going to need trimming as well. Yes my car is super dirty, it sat outside for a while.

Wow it looks like your aluminum welding has improved. That's awesome dude. I'll be tackling my own vmount soon. I'm still debating whether I'll go with hood pins. That seems to be one of the biggest decisions, as it opens up a lot of options for intercooler height and thickness. Not being trained in solidworks, all of these pics really help someone like myself to visualize the various options. I also really like the way you've tied the radiator support into the crash beam. I think I'll borrow that design that too and work off of an AMS crash beam (I have a GD). I priced out DOM tubing to Hawaii, and the premade unit isn't that much more expensive. Out of curiousity, and I know that GDs and GRs have different dimensions, what is the height and thickness of your core? I've been reading a lot about cooling systems--double pass, thickness, coolant flow, etc..--and it seems like taking advantage of core thickness and even double pass is only advantageous if one can increase coolant flow. What I gather is that most times it seems like when running thick cores poor performance is attributed to poor airflow when it's likely poor coolant flow. I was thinking of running a short thick dual pass and adding a booster pump like this http://www.stewartcomponents.net/Mer...Code=ElectPump
Not sure though as that drives cost up.

Intercooler is 22x10x3.25 Rad is 19x22x2.5

I used the aftermarket aluminum replacements as a ball park. I also really used this radiator because I had it from another project. I will probably shorten it a bit for ground clearance.

Digging this build very much. I am looking to do a similar setup but stock location turbo myself so routing will be a bit different.

update, I tried to shorten the radiator for a better fit. When I cut the end tanks I found that the core was made of paper thin cast aluminum. This made it very difficult to weld and I pretty much ruined it. Today I am looking for a new better sized unit.

At least now I think I can make a new rad fit better for the next project I have in mind
