This is my engine bay. Where to stick the boost leak tester into? Sorry for such a noob question. I'm assuming after the intake? I just want to double check since I have a EJ20G with a 90 degree inlet turbo.

Find the MAF sensor. Take out that section of piping. Couple the boost leak checker to the section of intake where the MAF just connected up to.

Get soapy water in a spray bottle. 20 parts water to 1 part dish soap. Start spraying.

I don't have a MAF. But basically you're telling me to remove the intake and stick it into my blue 90 degree elbow. Thanks!

Update: I sold my tester to someone in another country who could not acquire the parts. Therefore, I had to build another. In the process, I realized I had the wrong 1/8" to 1/4" adapter listed. The one I had listed was a female 1/8" to male 1/4", when it should have been this female 1/8" to female 1/4": http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...&storeId=10051

I updated the spreadsheet.

Seeing these inspired me to spend the 10 bucks and make one, glad I did, found a small leak, didnt notice anything different after, but peace of mind is always nice

It can, if you just want to test past the throttle body. If I'm chasing down a leak thats pissing me off, I'll hook up the tester right to the throttle body and check there. Sometimes it's easier to break it into smaller sections.

I tried to do the test, but wasn't able to maintain any pressure. Can anyone confirm if I've identified the right hoses to plug off?

Evap Purge Solenoid?

PCV Breather hoses?

Are either of these the crankcase breather?

D0nets,

thanks bro i received it already.
got a question, i just thought about how can i adjust the pressure i want into the system without letting in too much pressure and just blowing pass all the seals. Something like a pressure regulator or do you just open the valve a little til u get it to the psi you want?

I usually set the psi on the compressor to about 30. It takes a few seconds to fill the system so I just open the ball valve until the gauge reads to target and then i shut the ball valve off.

Question:

I don't have a big air compressor for air tools. However, I do have a very powerful portable tire inflator, which can inflate 5-10lbs of air into a tire in less than 30 seconds. Any chance I could build one of these boost leak testers, and simply use it with my air pump?

I have this, which actually works very well and is incredibly fast: http://www.amazon.com/Slime-COMP06-Heavy-Duty-12-Volt-Inflator/dp/B000M8R0QM

I have a Crawford AOS, therefore my PCV is gone. Do I need to disconnect the crankcase breather in which the Crawford plugs into? Alternatively, I could just disconnect this line from my turbo inlet, and vent it to atmosphere. I just don't want to blow a cam seal.

I decided to build this boost leak tester to check for leaks. However I don't have an air compressor - I only have a small but powerful tire pump. Therefore, I needed a schrader valve configuration. After lots and lots of research and phone calls, I finally tracked down the parts that are needed to connect this to a normal tire pump. The best part is, they can be found at any local NAPA. There are a total of 2 parts needed, in addition to the parts list found in the first post.

1/8" NPT Tire Valve / Schrader Valve
NAPA Part #: NTH 90294
http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...294_0344221587
$2.29 / each

1/8" NPT to 1/4" NPT Adapter
NAPA Part #: WH 3220X4X2
http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...4X2_0215604875
$1.49 / each

The result:

Hi there ...

I'm in urgent need of help ... I current have a v5 (99) STI that has boost leak, I have made a boost leak tester but I am unsure of what I should be disconnecting / capping off to pressurise the system

I have a aftermarket turbo intake pipe with 1 take off that looks as if it goes to the boost solenoid... I also have a catch tank fitted

All the threads I can find see more towards Newage imprezas not the classic if any1 can help

I can get a pic up of engine bay if required

Thanks in advance
