Default Odd Pad Wear 2019 STi

2019 STI with only 16k miles. I started hearing a squeak from the brakes occasionally and noticed the pad on the front passenger side seems to be wearing unevenly, the inside, at the top is much thicker than the outside. I assume this will be under warranty and I've made an appointment, but wanted to get some insight before I go. I have not taken them apart at all, the retaining clips appear to be the same on both driver and passenger side. How is it possible to wear unevenly inside/outside? The car is stock, but did recently change the wheels to the S209 BBS's. The wheels only have maybe 600 miles, so I don't believe that to be related.

I can't get nabisco hosting to upload. So not sure what works outside nowadays...

I filled in some words to clarify what I think you're trying to say. I'm not sure my clarification is correct, though, since the picture you posted only shows 1 pad, and is viewed from the bottom of the pad rather than the top.

If you're seeing substantially different wear on the inner and outer pads, it's possible that the less-worn pad is somehow hung up (on the guide pins, or against the caliper body) and it's not being pushed onto the rotor face as firmly as the more-worn pad.

No, I'm being specific to just the outer pad in the photo. That's the view from above/front. It looks like the inside edge (hub side) has more material than the outside edge (Tire side). If you look at the backing and the pad wear, they aren't parallel, the wear appears to be wedge shaped. I've certainly seen pads wear as you are describing and even top to bottom if a piston were hung up, but these seem to be hub edge is thicker than wheel edge. I was able to get an appointment today, so I'm not going to bother taking it apart myself to see, I suppose it's possible I'm seeing things.

Must just be an optical illusion, or I'm an idiot. They said there was nothing wrong with them.

Calm down, you are getting all excited over nothing. You are not an idiot, just uninformed about brake pads. What you are looking at there is called Chamfer and that's how brake pads come in, especially high performance brakes such as Brembo.

Go to the following sites or do a search online to learn more about what Chamfer is:

Not sure about that being a chamfer - that'd be a leading edge/trailing edge detail, and for that I'd expect the friction material thickness relative to the backing plate thickness to be constant going radially outward. The chamfer angle would show up along the inside surface down near the rotor hat.

I'd pull the pads on that corner to see what the full wear pattern looks like.

xothermic - what does the pad on the other front brake look like? Similarly worn?
