CEL / Cobb Acessport / dummy: cautionary tale
I had a check engine light and used my accessport to pull the codes.
Both O2 sensors, speedometer, neutral position switch sensor, same combo of codes last time All Aspects diagnosed was dirty MAF sensor. This was many years ago. So I took off the filter and silicone tube and MAF housing and cleaned them and put back on. I did reset ecu on the accessport and it said error and some long code. Whatever I turned everything off and started the car and the check engine light was gone hooray! Engine was horrible after that and about halfway or more into throttle at any rpm or speed the car choked for fuel and started porpoising really bad. Today I realized that the process for accessport is very specific and read about it and did the following with amazing results: Turned key to battery no full on ignition. Turned off headlights, heater, radio etc. Flashed custom map instead of reset ecu. I have a 2003 stage 2 wrx and the turbo and engine are original. Today I spooled 14.5psi at 3500 rpm has never come on that hard and strong and quick before (that's what she said). Moral of the story and where I think it can help others is if you use the Cobb at all, be very very careful all the cables are hooked up clean and that you follow the proper way don't turn the car on and start the engine that ****s it up. Also I cleaned and oiled my filter and I think the car likes it makes a wooshing sound when i hit the gas now.
