Default momo steering wheel in a 97 legacy

Will a momo steering wheel from a WRX fit in a 97 legacy L?

Allso will the Legacy air bag fit in to the momo wheel, or would i need the WRX one?

Do a search on it...there was a HUGE thread about this a few months back, I don't know what information was ever given out in it but i know that this is exactly what it was about.

You don't know about it..

If the WRX wheel will fit in a 1st gen, it should fit in a 2nd gen.

Use the WRX air-bag if you must retain one.

As far as I've been told, it will fit, but you will also need the cruise control lever from the WRX (they're apparently different from the legacy). I'm pretty sure the steering wheel and airbag fit right in just like the stock one does though. I'd also like to do this.

fits great. you just need to dremel the cruise control space if you are using a JDM one. I didn't use a WRX one.

The wheel will fit BUT the 97 and earlier Subarus use a higher power air bag than the 98 and later Subarus. Meaning the new air bag wil not work with the older air bag system. Also the air bags are different enough in size that I could see no way to swap the old bag to the new wheel.

i am sure we could design a signal changer that would not be very big. anyone got the technical specs on the air bag electrical systems?

I assume this would mean a swap would be much easier for us '98 and newer owners.

The signal changer wasnt a prob at all. Its the cruise control stalk that isnt found on many MOMO wheels, particularly the JDM ones. I dremeled the opening in the wheel and the cruise stalk from my car bolted perfectly to the frmae that came off a 2002 B4 MOMO wheel. There was even a faint outline in the plastic of the MOMO wheel where it needed to be cut for the stalk.

Yeppers, the bag on the new wheel should have a connector that mates perfectly with your existing wiring harness.

Could you tell me where you got your Momo wheel (perhaps Subaru part number?).

What model year WRX's have that type of Momo steering wheel?

Thanks!

Maybe I am unclear what signal changer you are talking about. You mean the directional signal stalk? If so it doesnt have anything to do with the wheel, through come through the column behind the wheel. The column remains unchanged.

The only par that needed to be swapped to the new wheel in my 97 GT was the cruise control stalk.

If you are talking about my wheel - its off a 2002 B4 and I bought it on the Yahoo Japan Auctions. I have no idea of the PN. No WRXs that I am aware of came with this exact wheel. The STis came with one similar(different center MOMO logo) but with the red stitching like monovichs.

Wow, I really like the look of that particular wheel you have.

Great, it would have been better for me not to see that wheel. Ignorance is bliss.

I figure the wheel from the STi can fit, but I think the wheel you have looks superior.

are the momo logoed wheels any smaller in diameter or better in feel? sometimes I have trouble swinging my car in a short diameter s curve but of course thats mostly my slow steering rack ratio.

Airbag? We don't need no stinkin airbags!

Just a big waste of money and weight!

They are only up to 14% effective anyways. Well, some low number like that.

I do not have a working airbag. I considered splicing the two harnesses together, but then decided there was a high likelihood that the resistances of the static bag and the trigger voltages were probably different in the two systems.

Yes and definitely yes. Unfortunatley the number of turns is unchanged tho as that is dictated by the rack.

Then, logically, you won't need the cruise control lever from a WRX.

And did you notice you bumped a thread from 15-1/2 years ago? And quoted a post by a guy who hasn't been on the forum in 4 years? Using the search function, but don't expect replies from someone who posted so long ago - not many of us are still around.
