Are all 2015+ WRX 6MTs interchangeable?
I’m pretty sure they are but I would like help verifying this. Found a local one from a 16 and I have an 18.
I lost reverse out of the blue over the weekend and they denied my warranty claim (which I kind of expected) because the car is tuned (Cobb OTS stage 1). My car has done 12+ autocross sessions, 5 days of HPDE and 3 track days though so fair play I guess it hasn’t exactly been babied, pay to play and all that.

I can’t imagine they wouldn’t be. Did you look into the STI trans ? Not sure how much more that would run you but it is one of those might as well upgrades if you are planning on keeping the car or modding it in the future.

I did look into the STI swap but it’s significantly more expensive and for my goals it isn’t worth it. |

There were minor changes for 2018 MY. IIRC revised synchros, clutch assembly (for smoother operation) and of course the throw out bearing. I hope this helps.

Yes that’s helpful thank you. I’ve been trying to search here but it doesn’t seem to work very well.

Swap went fine, I put in a 17 with 29k. Found the reverse gear missing most of its teeth. The shift cable had too much slack in it as well there's always been something not right but it was intermittent. It's torn apart on my bench waiting for parts then I'll rebuild it. Found that there's definitely a difference in synchros as noted and the reverse gear itself and possibly shift forks but I didn't take the "new" one far enough to confirm.
Shift feel is far notchier now, reminds me of the gated shifters I learned how to drive on but I can see how some would prefer the smoother shift of the 18. |
