Default How can I keep my Subie running forever?

Kinda right there in the title. I have a 2004 Impreza Outback. EJ251 (2.5L, N/A) 5MT. Has just over 130,000 miles. Are there any not-so-obvious things I should be doing to keep my car running just as new as the day she was built? Secondly, is there anything I can do to “modernize” my car to make sure she is running at peak performance and efficiency. (Do ECU’s need software updates???)

At about 100,000 miles I had head gaskets, belts/pulleys, water pump, and clutch replaced.

List of things I keep up on:
New synthetic oil/filter every 5,000 miles
Fuel filter
Spark plugs
Air filter
Tires (alignments, air, etc.)
PVC

You've basically got it going, make sure that you keep all mechanical parts in good condition i.e water pump, timing parts, spark plugs need replacing every 100k I think. If youd want your car to run better, possibly, flashing your ecu to bump the power up on it (not by a whole bunch) can keep it running smoothly. If you can keep simple maintenance on it consistently in the places where you need it. It could last for awhile.

My D/S Rear wheel bearing went to **** at 135K, so I'd watch out for those soon. Definitely NOT a fun job IMO. Ended up swapping an entire spindle assembly.

Check out your Front LCA's for rust too as there's been a recall for them.

Might want to take a peek at that filler neck too while you're at it.
