To big lifter buckets?
So I just put my motor together and I’m getting absolutely no compression in any cylinders.
-I’ve check all timing marks. -done a leak down test on cylinder #1 and I can hear air escaping into the intake manifold. But their all new valves and had a trusted shop do all the head work. I put stage 3 Bc cams into the car but didn’t do anything with the lifter buckets. I just put each bucket into the hole it came out of. Could the bucket(s) be to big thus the cam is sitting on top of the bucket holding it open?

I had them put springs, valves, and retainers in. I was never asked to bring my cams. They must of assumed they were stock. I checked the clearance with the stock cams in when I first pulled the motor and everything was in spec. Didn’t realize I would have to adjust them to the new cams. First Subaru build lol. |

The valve clearance on each valve changes when you put in any other cam than the exact ones that came out of the car. If also changes if you try to set valve lash with the head off the shortblock compared to when you torque it on the crankcase. Also, when you install new cams you MUST replace every single lifter with a brand new one, even if the current ones are in spec, to avoid the possibility of the wear patterns that were worn on to the tops of the old buckets from the lower lift cams from wiping a lope off the new, higher lift cams. I hope you have an extra $300 to spend for just parts there.
Good luck. |

It would have more to do with the valves length than the new cam. you need to pull the motor and pull the valve covers to check the lash properly. I don't know what the guy above is talking about if the buckets are in good shape you can definitely reuse them, if they are in spec.

I don't recall what the service manual says, but I've reused many hardware parts unless it's critical that it needs replaced. If there's no obvious problem with the bucket, I would reuse it, on the other hand if it has some wear and you don't want that uneven wear to transfer to your new cams then you need new buckets.
Also consider that with new cams you'll probably have to buy several new buckets anyways, unless you're lucky and many of them can make valve lash spec. As stated above, every time I've seen the lash checked the head is torqued on the short block. Best. |

Comparing advertised rates for rental cars may not give you an accurate picture of the price you will pay. Try to make an “apples to apples” comparison of car rental prices that includes all mandatory fees and charges, as well as charges for options. I did so and I think Luxury car rental in Dayton, Ohio might just be the most reasonable one out there. Some fees may be quoted when you reserve a car online, though you may not find out about all of the charges until you go to the rental office to pick up your car. Read your contract carefully, and look for fees triggered by specific events — like accidents.

Hello! Yes, the problem is pretty complicated. I recommend contacting the service. Although wait a minute. If you are an experienced mechanic, you can try to figure it out yourself. Have a look at https://junkcarsus.com/. Look for good cylinders there. I’m sure you can pick up something worthwhile. My friend generally assembled a car in the garage from their details.
