Default $1140 for walnut blasting?

Got a quote from Growler Motoraports in Plano (previously Cobb) to walnut blast valves and install egr delete (that I provide) for $1140. This seems ridiculously high. Half the work to install the egr delete is done when you do the walnut blasting with having to take off the intercooler. Are my expectations completely out of whack here? I've been reading about companies charging BMW owners a couple hundred, and a shop in VA walnut blasting for $450. I'd think the egr delete shouldn't be more than $150 to install (less since it's being done during the walnut blasting).

that seems a bit excessive. I'd say 450 to 600 is reasonable.

Having done walnut blasting on other cars where the intake manifold was much easier to get off, it still took us between 3 and 4 hours to get it completely clean

Maybe the shop doesnt actually offer it yet and they want my invoice to cover the cost of tools and supplies. Only thing that makes sense to me. Open for recommendations in north TX to get this done. The sticky is outdated.

Not sure what other tools you'd need besides walnut media and a blast gun.

I bought one at Harbor freight for $30 bucks and some media on Ebay. Cant remember how much it cost as it was 6 or 7 years ago.

I found soaking the valves in carb cleaner, then picking with dentist pic's helped more than the walnut media did.

but anyway, good luck finding a shop. I'd call BMW/Audi shops around town and ask them what they'd charge.

It doesn't look like all that difficult of a project. I just have zero access to tools or a garage, which is frustrating. After moving across the country, my tools didn't come with me and apartment life isn't really conducive to auto repairs. I had the hood popped the other night trying to troubleshoot a CEL and residents were walking by looking at me like I was breaking the law.

Did you do the egr delete? Have you had to clean the valves again after the first time w/added preventative measures?

I have never done it on an FA Subaru.

Did it on an 08 and 09 Cobalt SS turbo and an 07 Mazdaspeed 3. all DI cars

So I cant comment on how well the EGR delete helps. We had to use a low-ash oil but nothing 100% stopped it from happening.

Ahh, gotcha. Thanks for the info.

I'll update if I find a shop willing to do it for a more reasonable price.

Waay high. Had a local Subaru shop do it for about half that at around 36K miles. Turns out my **** was pretty clean still ('15 FXT).

Lol I'll have to talk to them and find out more about what they're doing and how they're justifying charging so much. I dont even think the service includes your basic reach around so not sure where they're getting off charging so much.

Contact AWD Tuning in Flower Mound. I got a quote from them for $500. I think they also had a special to Walnut Blast, Change spark plugs, oil change and a compression test for ~$750.

I paid $450 for the walnut blast. Well worth the $, should have seen how bad the carbon buildup was , at only 60,000 miles.

I went to Kinetic Motor Works in Hampstead,NH. They did the egr / tgv deletes and tune also. The tech showed me pics from his phone but I didn't ask for a copy. I have the old egr / tgv that I could show pics of if anyone is curious.
