I think 19~20mpg is decent.
We have to keep in mind that running FA24DIT on regular gas is somewhat of a compromise.
Keeping that engine together on 87 gas while delivering good power and perfs is not easy. Something has to give; and, in that case, that something may be fuel economy.

I think it's dumb to care that much about fuel economy in something that large and expensive anyway. Either it fits your needs and wants or it doesn't.
I don’t expect great mpg, but do expect it to get the EPA rating.

I agree. IF you are driving sensible, you should be able to, at least, be in between the city and hwy for your average. But, 19 is horrible.

People just notice it looks aggressive and sporty. That doesn't mean it's beautiful by any stretch.

Also I'll be fair in saying that modded WRX actually look pretty good. I'm talking wheels, stance, window tint, new headlights, new taillights, lip kit, exhaust, and no stupid tow hooks.

Touché. Like I said, give it through this summer and not one of the worst winters in the US and see what it looks like then.

It could be that people who are getting lower than expected mileage are jumping onto fuelly to share the news. We'll have a better idea when there's 10 times as many cars reporting.

That's the problem with every kind of self-reporting mechanism -- especially online. People are most likely to report when things are bad and get them upset. It tends to drown out those with no issues or even the really good experiences since they usually don't say anything.

The only time the good gets reported is if they're badgered over and over to review something or give a quick rating.

Whenever I compare things online I usually look for which has the smallest percentage of poor ratings, not who has the most good ratings.

Man if the OBXT can manage ~22-23 mpg on mix cycle, on regular gas, that's a huge improvement over the first OBXT. I'm lucky to get 18 mpg in my Legacy GT wagon. I have to hypermile to get that or do a lot of highway driving. 23/30 rating is a 5/4 mpg increase so that's what people should expect. If they expect more skip the OBXT.

The Fujitsu Ten unit I believe was shared with Toyota. This should not come as any surprise.

Reading the press release, I don't see rain sensing wipers? Why? I'm pretty sure the Crosstrek has that option.

They always claim "xx% stiffer than the previous model", but they rarely qualify it with numbers or even describe which axis it's stiffer in.

From the 2nd to 3rd generation they might have bumped up longitudinal rigidity by 50% and from the 3rd to 4th they might have bumped up torsion rigidity by 40%, but really from the 2nd to 4th gen the car went up 53% in longitudinal and 51% in torsion. Better, but not the "OMG Wow! 50% increase every 5 years!" stacking on top of each other that the marketing alone would suggest (ie: 225% all around from 2nd to 4th).

Everytime I hear a manufacturer claim xx% stiffer, I'm convinced that all I have driven are wet noodles.

Outback headunit looks way better and more functional than the Prius one IMO. I am not a fan of the giant vertical Tesla-style units we see now, but at least there are some physical controls that are placed well. The volume/tune adjusters and temp controls are right where they should be on the Outback. I can't, for the life of me, understand why the Prius radio controls (as well as the Home and Menu buttons) are on the passenger side.

From driving the Subarus my family has... previous gen impreza, the current SGP impreza, and the VA (which is much stiffer than previous gen Impreza, but not as stiff as SGP), you really can tell the difference of the SGP. If people are skeptical, I suggest they do a back to back drive of non-sgp vs SGP. It really is that noticeable.

I think the SGP Legacy, WRX/STI with the FA24DIT are going to be amazing.

Yeah, I drove a new 2017 Impreza, or whatever the old gen’s last year, and a 2019 Crosstrek and the difference is huge. Still not a fun car but it feels much higher quality, and the CVT is now on par with a regular automatic.

New outback looks great. The new infotainment and control setup looks MUCH improved. No more billion buttons on the steering wheel and a large integrated screen as opposed to 3 weird screens that don't talk to each other. This looks like a big step in the right direction!

If you watch the walk through videos, you'll that they are still tons of buttons on the steering wheel.

That’s a bummer. We may stick with a 5 seater. My wife is big on mpg. Can’t think of any 7 seater with good mileage.

Joe, we need to know the kind of driving your dad does for this data point to make any sort of sense.

Lead (light) foot?

All city (highway)?

Only him (loaded to the gills)?
