Had a feeling this was coming. Entirely new series coming, Americas Rallycross Championship which is tied into the World Rallycross Championship. Only 4 dates at this point this year with just 1 in U.S. Subaru, with Sandell and Atkinson as well as VW are committed according to Autosport.

Have a link to the article? It'd be nice to get a national rallycross series where smaller teams could compete who dont have a half million plus dollars to blow every year.

Here we are. Second article indicates that it will be primarily an American championship, which is a relief.

The Canadian round in August is about 6 1/2 hours from me in Connecticut, which is exactly the distance I was planning to drive to Buffalo for GRC. Seeing that Loeb and Petter Solberg will be there, I'm heading north.

I'm lost and confused, we're 2.5 months away from the start of GRC2018. Are the event organizers they REALLY planning on scrapping the current format and cars to jump into a smaller "spec" series in 2.5 months?!

What am I missing?

Youre missing nothing, thats exactly what they did. They just put a nail in the coffin for the series.

GRC is using the Lites cars as their new top platform, apparently with new "upgrades"

ARX is in conjunction with FIA World Rallycross.

I'm fairly shocked by this. With all the cash being thrown around to build and field a two-car team, I can't believe the manufacturers didn't push to have this season run under the old rules and allow them a whole year to develop the cars and the series.

What in the actual frak?!

I'm confused by your statement.

The new ARX IS using the same "GRC rules" to allow us to develop the cars towards an FIA ruleset without having to re-do a million dollars worth of items in 3 months.

Subaru does have the same cars, drivers and team, just not in GRC. They are in the ARX. It seems the idea is to debut the series this year in conjunction with World Rallycross events as they are guaranteed spectators, viewership, etc. The series indicates that they want to develop more rounds in the U.S. over the upcoming years. I assume more teams will throw their hats in along with Subaru and VW.

Those that are old enough to remember when open wheel cars split to become champ car and IRL....what you are seeing now is similar.

While a bit confusing, the bottom line is you will be able to see supercars race in north america.
Still many things to be clarified and finalized. This year will be a bit of bridge.

Cause and effect are bit blurry at the moment, so don't read too much into anything, other than knowing racing should happen.

I am just glad to see a new series born that is not owned by the family of any of the competitors. We all know how well that BS has gone when it came to deciding penalties regarding incidents with a particular driver in GRC.

Seems like the off track action is just as crazy as the racing

I'll get to those articles, but I just saw that Patrick Sandell will be running at least one stage rally (Olympus) for Subaru this year.

Sure is. Both he and Atkinson are filling in for Pastrana when he can't make it due to Nitro Circus. Atkinson is actually in the car this weekend at Oregon Trail Rally. SRT USA hasn't announced the rest of the season's driver lineup at this point, only confirming that Higgins is doing every round.

What a mess.

Regardless of whether or not it amounts to anything, SOA being sued by GRC is a headache that SOA doesn't need.

It is never a good time for the motorsports side of a company to be associated with any negativity, simply because many of the top executives in the company could care less about motorsports in the first place.
