Default MAPerformance Top Mount Intercooler Development Thread**Now With Charge Pipe***

The MAP Race Program||||Why Choose MAP?||||Our Services||||Inventory Clearance||||What Our Customers Say

Hey everyone! Some of you may have been following our tuning thread for the 2015/16 WRX. During our time spent with the car, we found several weak links in the factory set up. Knowing full well that we can't address them all at once, and given the success of our current intercooler program, we decided to prioritize the intercooler as or first project. As you can see in my current log, once it reaches maximum boost, intake temps rise significantly (indicated by blue line)

This has lead us to move forward with our first in house made product for this platform!

It's no secret as to what our main goals will be with our intercooler set up:

-Reduce IAT's
-Minimal pressure drop
-Additional meth bung option
-500whp capable
-Ability to fit factory engine cover
-Ease of installation
-Underhood bling (common, it's important...)

Video of our billet end tanks in the making!

Our intercooler will utilize 6061 billet end tanks made in house, and fabricated in house to provide you with our lifetime warranty. In the photo is our first prototype core. We will be performing some fancycsciency stuff to ensure we pick the correct core for our end goals. I have seen a lot of requests for the addition of a meth bung for customers running methanol injection, so that will be a priority of ours as well. We have had great success with our currently released Ecooboost Mustang intercooler also using these same features:

As of now, this is just the beginning. Many updates will be added to this thread as we progress further. I do encourage anyone to step in with suggestions, comments, or any other ideas you customers might have out there!

I know this is going to be coming from many on here and what they want to see. Meth bung, many want to see that others say stock beauty plate thing to stay in place I for one do not care about that. If you do not keep the factory cover then I know a lot like how process west i believe it is adds a belt cover which looks really nice.

Agreed. A meth bung option will happen for sure.

Interesting, good for you MAPerformance.

Hopefully you can come in at a lower price than the rest too. Keep up the good work.

Personally I'd like to have tabs for the pop clips to keep the stock engine cover, like the killer b IC.

Also price point is something that would interest me as well.

What I would also do is look into selling 2 different kits, one with a charge pipe and all accessories and one without the charge pipe and just the intercooler and random parts you need to fit the intercooler. Many people have been running stock IC with a PRL charge pipe and it seems that companies that only sell all the pieces people are left with an extra charge pipe or they do not want to spend the extra money for supplies they do not need. Also I know this will be coming up, charge pipe color and intercooler color. I would look at doing silver, red, blue and black charge pipe while having a silver and black IC. Another thing is put your name on the intercooler, could be black and red or black and blue or silver and black whatever the case. I like seeing the designs and it seems like a lot of companies have gone away from this maybe it is something that I like that others do not however I think it looks good and it reminds people of the company.

I'd say have a stencil in the package for painting a logo. I'm not very interested in a logo on my intercooler.

That would also be a good idea, let people choose.

I will either install the box, or put the OEM intake back on.

Soon sir. Our CNC machine went down and is currently awaiting some parts. Should be back up and running next week. This caused us to get a bit behind in production, but once we get caught up, we plan to mill out our prototype billet end tanks, and things should start progressing from there!

I am very interested to know if this intercooler would work w Grimmspeed Intake, PRL Charge Pipe Kit and a Crawford V3 AOS installed. Most imp is the AOS install as I am sure it will work with MAP Intake, hopefully w GS and PRL Charge Pipe Kit

I would be curious as to how the GTX3067R would fare on the stock TMIC. Being a bit bigger, it shouldn't push hot air like the factory compressor at higher RPMs. I imagine a protuned car with a lot of bolt-ons (besides TMIC) would push the stock compressor up and out of its efficiency island.

holy cow! hurry up!
its not like properly designing and engineering a quality part takes a long time with all that fancy math and stuff...

like i told grimmspeed... i have a stack of cash waiting for a charge pipe and TMIC. i can wait, but idk how long. GS's stuff might be ready sooner, but i like you guys better(dont tell them i said that), so...
