My stupid is coming out again:
Is there any significant downside to running game saves (Steam etc) off a separate SATA SSD instead of PCIE? Just trying to plan out and I think having a larger second drive for games could be prudent, given the wife's proclivity for buying new ones.

Saves, no. Game install itself, depending on game yes but not significant in most cases. |

Run the game install on the same drive. That can help optimize loading times.

Was thinking of running the install and save files off a secondary (cheaper) SSD and run OS and other applications of the main Sabrent drive we're getting, just to save on cost, but 1TB drive might be sufficient to store and run everything.
Right now our old comp is running a 250GB Evo Pro SSD for OS and some applications and a 7200rpm WD 3,5in running Steam and all game saves, lol, so regardless it should be an upgrade. Edit: Mainly concerned with in game performance though, not so much load times. |

I can't believe GTX 1080s are still $800 new at NewEgg.

Watch out if you go to buy any of the 10 series cards, they aren't being made anymore and I noticed a lot of listings are "new" but also have "renewed" in the title.
Renewed = refurbished, basically. Yeah though, they're still way overpriced. |

Shocked
Was up the other night speculating about a possible system build. I knew the 1080 was a great card and assumed the prices would have settled as they normally would and...no, still very expensive. I suppose they're still valuable to Bitcoin miners. Which EVGA card is good value at $300-400? |

If you're still looking for parts. Keep watching Newegg's black friday deals. They had a GTX 1660 for $207 a couple days ago.

PC master race v2.0
Is there a site that has a list of all the graphics cards listed in order of how good they are?
Nm found this: https://www.pcgamer.com/gpu-hierarch...s-you-can-buy/ Last edited by thechickencow; 11-17-2019 at 09:58 AM. |

My first built comp from about 4-5 years ago started acting wonky on me last month. Lots of crashing in BF4 and other intensive games. To be honest I hadn't done any maintenance at all on it. Then I got the blue screen of death and with a corrupted boot file so I lost everything on the drive.
I wiped the drive and reinstalled, cleaned the whole rig and I'm handing it over to my wife for her mild gaming and processing so I've got a new build in the works. I decided to try my hand at a MicroATX build in a Corsair 280 case. Going to do a custom open loop with hard tubing (it'll be a good project for the next couple of months). Does anyone have experience with EK's D-RGB? I'm reading some concerning things after order all the water blocks and pumps in regards to controlling lighting. |

Bought the second part of the new comp; the Sabrent Gen 4 PCIe 1TD SSD price went down to $169.48 and there was an $11.00 coupon on there too, so ended up paying $158.48 for it before tax.
So far I have that drive and the sticks of RAM (Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200, 32GB), with total spent thus far $298.47 ($313.09 after tax), not considering around $20.00 cashback on the RAM purchase. While we're not sticking to any budgets, it would be great coming in under $2k and even better if it's in the $1,8XX's. |

Anybody want to spend my money over Black Friday on a video card?
Looking for bang for buck for $350-400 with what’s out there now. |

As far as Nvidia cards 2060 Super is in that bracket. $500 gets you into a 2070 Super. This Newegg listing for 2060S is same price after MIR and $10 instant rebate as my local MicroCenter after MIR: https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-rtx-2060-super-08g-p4-3067-kr/p/N82E16814487460

I'm very tempted to build a new 3950x system. That plus a 2070 super would keep me set for a while. I wish 2080's weren't in the $1k price range.

Upgrade vs the 2060S or vs what you have today? What resolution are you wanting to use? The 2070S is essentially a 2080 non super.
