Default Mann Engineering Coilover Review (vs Koni inserts)

I just did a bunch of work adding power to my 2009 HB and found that one of my Konis had lost its nitrogen. Koni replaced it quickly and the car was back in form. About a month and half later I hit a massive new pothole and blew another Koni. With a trip to Vegas just 1.5 days away, I was in a bind.

I talked to a local shop (Griffin motorwerkes) and we decided to grab the Mann Engineering street coilovers based on my tight time crunch. I could get them that AM since I live 45 minutes from their location, and I have a friend with an STI who raves about them that Griffin set-up. It was big financial commitment, but I was taking the car to Vegas for the Interbike show so it had to be right.

Griffin got everything installed, aligned, height adjusted and balanced in record time. I have the whiteline offset top hats on my 09, and it seemed like they could barely get the camber to -2, which is where I like it. (Stock camber bolts).

Ride is firm, a bit firmer than Konis with Epic springs. Ride is well damped, and NIGHT and DAY on square edge bumps better. We took the long way to Vegas through the sierras ( Sonora pass ) and then down the eastern slope of the Sierras to Bishop. West on hwy 168 which is easily one of the best driving roads ever imagined!

Let me start with this- I have ridden in a 2011 STI with the same coil overs and was very impressed. After 1300miles of amazing roads, these exceeded my expectations in every conceivable way! I have 245/40/18 Pilot Super Sport tires and that combo (with tons of other chassis and suspension mods) really made these coilovers complete. There is "no" body roll, but you don't pay the price on square edge bumps! The traction out of the corners is amazing, brake dive is gone, direction changes are silly ... My car is AMAZING. This car inspires confidence at speed and still has a very long limit to explore.

I have a ton of mods, but I never realized how much of a weak link my shocks were. I thought the Konis were "good enough" but was I wrong. At $2399 these are not cheap, but the way they destroy mountain roads is amazing. Adjustment knobs are awesome and easy to turn.

Full list of handling mods:
Mann Engineering Street Coilovers
Perrin strut bar
Cusco H brace and control arm brackets
25mm/22mm sway bars
Rear HB upper strut tie bar
Full whiteline bushings
Whiteline positive traction kit
Group N mounts
Kart boy pitch stop
TCE Wilwood 355mm BBK
Michelin Pilot Supersport 245/40/18

Can't wait to hit the track!
