Out:
JDM WRX STI v6 TY754VBAAA transmission (3.166/1.882/1.296/0.972/0.738, 4.444fd)
OBX front MLSD rear diff with upgraded bolts and washers
Exedy KSB03 WRX oem clutch kit (pull type)
re-surfaced oem WRX flywheel (pull type)
R160 4.444 VLSD rear diff

Reinstalled the original 5MT and rear diff. Also a new KSB04 clutch and the original flywheel (push type). Initial test drive worked out well but the next day I was getting the 1st-2nd-3rd slip with normal 4th-5th behavior. RHS rear axle popped out of the diff enough to disengage splines but keep the oil sealed inside. Few minutes to reseat the axle and it was working fine again. Watching to see if it is prone to popping back out again or if I just did not get it seated well enough the first time.
Found another stuck piston in the front RHS caliper. Probably the cause of that occasional highway wobble and the reduced mpg. Centric reman sucks they can't even last 1 year without sticking piston problems. Battery post was leaking so I took it back and got it warrantied (free!) for a new one. Installed a set of fresh front and rear O2 sensors. The rear sensor made some contact with the body so a few thumps with the BFH were needed to avoid that. Noticed the flanges on the Stromung mid-pipe are getting pretty rusty....those need to be stainless steel to last in this region. That alone pretty much rules out using a Stromung cat-back on the WRX unless I convert it over to stainless flanges first.
I'll pull apart the v6 5MT this winter and fix the bearing then probably sell it off with the matching rear diff in the spring. Got to free up some space....

*Well I found the culprit of the noise in the TY754VBAAA trans. It's not the mainshaft rear bearing (which is a roller bearing btw) as I suspected. It's actually the mainshaft 5th gear, needle bearing, and bearing race. I originally found the mainshaft nut loose prior to installing it few years ago. I torqued the nut back to spec and it appeared the parts moved back into pressed position. They did not and it wore the 5th mainshaft gear against the 5th syncro hub which resulted in ruts in the race and gear surfaces. Crap. A new 5th gear set is $100, I'll see if I can maybe find a good used one.

Thanks. Not too late, it still lives but I have diverted most of my time to finishing a project on my WRX. Forester will pretty much get driven till it falls apart or a major failure. It certainly needs some exhaust TLC, install some 3/8" rear tophat spacers, and an alignment this spring.

Page 3 photos are mostly re-hosted. Will work on page 2 a bit too.

Things to note:
The persistent P0420 code was basically the result of the cat-pipe with MANY miles on it. The active sites in the substrate washcoat must have been mostly deactivated by now. I ended up replacing with a Bosal cat pipe, their version with the extra catalyst loading. It is by no means an OEM cat pipe but it cost significantly less. The P0420 code never returned. Surprisingly the very small EVAP code also never returned. Those monitors are not really related in any way so that is a weird coincidence.

Then figure out where you should probably be posting this question. Instead of posting it as your 3rd forum post inside somone's journal thread.
