where can I get extended door pulls?
I'm looking for the grab handles that extend from the armrest up to the power window panel; I've got a 97 with the central locking out on little islands, so I know it fits, but I can'tr figure out where to get these, or how much they run....... I'd like to do all 4 doors, if they're available; can anyone help?

Any dealer *should* be able to get them, even though they've been discontinued for several years. All four doors are available, but for some reason they don't look right on the rear doors IMHO. I'd check with www.subaruparts.com or Lisa at Troncalli Subaru (check their web site www.troncalli.com for the phone number).

Door Grips
The paper work the original owner of my GT kindly passed on list the following:
Driver's and Front Right Door Grip Kit for vehicles with Power Windows Only (Gray) P/N J2010AS020 (Taupe) J2010AS000 Rear (Gray) J2010AS030 (Taupe) J2010AS010 The front kit (separate kit each side) includes: Extended pull handle L) 94238AC010MU(gray, RA Taupe) R) 94238AC000MU("") Handle cap L)94266AC010MU ("") R)94266AC000MU ("") PW Gusset L) 94237AC010MU("") R) 94237AC020MU("") PW Gusset Cap L)94266AC050MU ("") R) 94266AC040MU ("") Support Bracket Rt only 94259AC410 Support Grommet R)94268AC010 L) 94268AC000 And a total of 4 self-tapping screw 045105203 Rears include again a kit for each side: Extended pull handle L) 94248AC010MU(gray, RA Taupe) R) 94248AC000MU("") Handle cap L)94266AC010MU ("") R)94266AC020MU ("") PW Gusset L) 94247AC010MU("") R) 94247AC000MU("") Support Clip L&R) 661179000 And a total of 2 self-tapping screws 045105203 Seems like a heck of a lot of parts, but I have to admit I really like the doors finished off this way. Very natural reach and grab rather than searching for the "pockets" to pull. And to defer to a previous poster, I like 'em on both front and rear. My $.02! Glenn O |

Incidently, I talked to Lisa at Troncalli Subaru. The door pulls are definitely still available through normal channels. Her price is $62/set, shipped (a set is both fronts or both rears). Other prices may vary by dealer.

What about for those w/o power door locks? Will they still be functional on normal joe legacy's with the plain island on the door trim panel?

Here, as promised, is a shot of the two surrounds for the door pull. The one on the left is the standard one, the one in place is the one that comes with the door grip kit. The two pieces are the same size, even though they look slightly different in the picture - they're displayed at a slightly different angle.

Fitment issues?
I've repeatedly heard about fitment issues with MY98+ vehicles and their window controls with the longer door pulls... But, I would swear that my window/lock controls are identical to those in the pics above.
Am I missing something here? Also, I'm curious: Is the 'cup' in the armrest still closed w/ the longer door pulls attached? That is, if I were to put change in there, would it stay (as long as Pleides wasn't driving it...)? - Eric '98 2.5 GT Wagon - Pics - Page - ICQ #: 9292601 |

Yup, I just spent about six hours trying to get the door grab handles to fit properly on my +98 GT. As mentioned by rrubel, the door lock creates an issue. Either you have a gaping hole, (which I guess you can cover with some kind of plate) or you have to heavily modify the stock faceplate, and make adjustments to the handle itself...cause of the angle change.
Also, without the faceplate of the -97, there's no easy way of attaching the supplied upper handle support to the actual door...given the little access hole on the plate included in the kit. So if you're going to attempt it, have a lot of patience...it does involve cutting the only piece that will fit properly on our model year. |

All righty then I'm now confused
Happens occasionally, even to the best of us <brushes away flies buzzing around dead brain>.
I've read the post about three times now and it looks like the door pulls will fit the pre-98 Legacies with no problems because there is no power door lock switch in the existing power window nacelle to worry about. Post-97 Legacies (my three are 2 98 GTs and 99 L) have the power door lock switch (both sides) and this presents a fitment issue because the replacement door pulls and mounting hardware makes no provision for the power door lock switches (Left and Right front) without cutting and fitting and an additional screw hole problem. Sorry if I sorted that out incorrectly but was right on the verge of ordering from SubaruParts.com - $57.75 in stock BTW - when I read the additional posts. Nuburu2 - Glenn, did you have any fitment issues with your 98? Couldn't tell from the pics but looks like your's mounted right up. Thanks folks. Br, Dale |

problem? not!
Dale, I don't know what problem these folks are talking about.
I just looked at my Wagon and the power door locks on both sides are in a separate switch panel below and forward of the power window panel, and in no way connected or in conflict with the new door pulls. The pics in my instruction sheets also show only the 4 window switches and the window lock switch in the master switch panel. No power door lock switch in the picture. Are yours different than that? I'd be glad to take a nice new pic of the entire door panel if that would help? Glenn O |

Re: problem? not!
Nuburu2 - Glenn, thanks for responding. Mine all have the separate door lock switch (right and left front doors) that sets in just below and forward of the four window switches (plus lock out on driver's door switch gear). I looked over the pictures from your post (of your car and the install instructions) and could not see the door lock switch and that, coupled with the thread comments, led to my confusion. I understand that you did not install them but is there any evidence of installation fitment issues (i.e., cutouts, screw heads not lining up and going in at an angle, etc.)?

OK Dale, I'll try to get some better close-up pics up, probably tomorrow. There are no indications of any problems or poor fitment on the doors themselves. They're truely a nice piece!
Color? Just looked closely at them again, and they may be just a half shade darker than the other grey on the doors. pics upcoming. Glenn O |
