shrug it looks like a concept EV QX50 with Mustang taillights.

My friend who has a GT500 on order who is wanting an EV (he just installed a Large solar system) and is a Ford guy just said no to this. Main sticking point for him was the stuck on iPad.

Not sold on the looks (front looks like it has bulldog underbite or something). Rear end could be any CUV with Mustang tail lights slapped on. Kind of lazy effort IMO even if you don't ask me. Should have just made an EV version of the Bronco with this drivetrain instead for mall-crawling style points.

I don't mind that it is Mustang inspired, but really doesn't need the Mustang's "Mach" designation or pony logo for an CUV. If it was a real Mustang coupe with an EV powertrain, then the Mach E and pony logo would be perfect. Otherwise, Ford should build a new EV identity.

They did a whole lot of mfr's to market. That's the most important thing. To them.

The GT ended up looking better than I expected.

GT does look much better.
I’d be curious to see or read about how it rides. It better be sporty. I’d consider an SUV like that if so.

I'm curious what the gap in capabilities of their autopilot competitor will be at that point (about a year from now). How much would that affect the competitiveness of the vehicle? The straight line acceleration is competitive, the range is somewhat competitive, but the charging and efficiency are definitely behind. Will it be able to do mostly hands free driving in stop and go like a Tesla, or will it still require to user to reactivate it after 3 seconds of stopping?

I’m really surprised at Hondas lack of EV vehicles or any substantial announcements of future EV. Then again, Honda has been limited in new designs and tech due to penny pinching bean counters who actually do more harm than good to the company.

Got to love sacrificing longevity for short term results!

Toyota can’t even make their own sports car . They will probably “partner” with some other auto who fronts most of the development and just slap a Toyota badge on it.

All the Japanese manufacturers are behind... I'm surprised about toyota considering how long they've had the prius. You'd think that knowledge would've translated into an EV by now.

I like this Mach-E, I just don't think it has anything to do with Mustang -- it dilutes the name imo. I guess Ford thinks it can't sell without all the cachet that name implies.

I don't like that it is actually named as a Mustang. It really has nothing to do with the Mustang. The interior is nowhere Mustang inspired. The outside isn't either, except for the taillights. I see more Edge than Mustang in the headlights.

Taking back the 'Maverick' name would have been better, but selling out was what they choose to do.

Considering how important it is that Ford get their first EV crossover to sell, it isn't surprising. How they're going to produce sufficient batteries to keep up with production will be interesting.

The rumor is they have capacity somehow to build 10k a month.

Note sure where those batteries are coming from.

The Mach-E might be the first of many offshoots

Quote:
Ford demonstrated it's not afraid to toss the Mustang nameplate into unfamiliar territory when it unveiled the 2021 Mach-E (pictured), an electric crossover with four doors, and not a single part shared with the Mustang as we've known it since 1964. The company hinted it's considering capitalizing on the name's global recognition and turning it into a full family of models.

"There's a lot of emotion with the Mustang, and it's time to progress that and make it spread wider ," explained Murat Gueler, the head of Ford's European design department, in an interview with British magazine Autocar. "We've talked about building a family," he added.

Turning the Mustang into a family of models would have been unthinkable 10 years ago, partly because the pony car depended on America for an overwhelming majority of its sales. Ford wisely decided to make the current, sixth-generation model available globally, which increased its fame. The strategy worked, and the nameplate has developed enough equity to support a family of cars.

The Mach-E is the first Mustang offshoot; it's not even labeled as a Ford. Its front and rear ends, its wheels' center caps, and its steering wheel all wear a re-styled evolution of the Mustang's horse-shaped logo. There isn't a Blue Oval anywhere in sight, which speaks volumes. It could very well be the start of a sub-brand. Gueler didn't provide specific details about what's next, but he affirmed the company won't expand the Mustang range by simply shrinking or enlarging the Mach-E.

"We don't want to take a Russian doll approach, where you can't tell them apart other than the size of the car, but we want a family feel where a Ford EV starts to build off this concept. We'd never do a small version of this — if we did a smaller vehicle, it would have different proportions," he said.

It's too early to tell whether the Mustang family will include other gasoline-powered cars, or if that part of the nameplate's heritage will solely be represented by the existing two-door. We expect to learn more about what Ford has in store for the nameplate in the coming months.
The future Mustang branded minivan has a little something for dad too!

The new CEO at Ford is a complete and total ass hat. Diluting the Mustang is the worst thing they can do.

Elon Musk tweets congratulations to Ford over its all-electric Mustang Mach-E SUV

(CNN)Ford unveiled its all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E crossover SUV on Sunday, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk sent out a congratulatory tweet following the announcement.

"Congratulations on the Mach E! Sustainable/electric cars are the future!! Excited to see this announcement from Ford, as it will encourage other carmakers to go electric too," Musk wrote on Twitter.

Congratulations on the Mach E! Sustainable/electric cars are the future!! Excited to see this announcement from Ford, as it will encourage other carmakers to go electric too.

The new Mustang appears to be an attempt by Ford to take on Tesla, and it will directly compete with the upcoming Tesla Model Y SUV.

"Thanks, Elon," Ford tweeted in response to Musk. "We couldn't agree more. See you at the charging station!"
Tesla already has an all-electric SUV in the luxury Model X, but Musk has already admitted that it is of minor importance and does not have a huge impact on the company's bottom line. The more affordable Model Y, on the other hand, has the potential to be a game-changer for Tesla with the popularity of crossover SUVs.
With production on the Model Y slated to begin in the summer of 2020, Tesla may have a small head start on Ford, as the Mustang Mach-E is expected to be available next fall.
The Model Y is also expected to have a starting price under $40,000, while the basic version of the Ford Mustang Mach-E will begin at around $45,000.
E cars require asshats running the show Scrap.

If this falls flat / disappoints in terms of sales, kind of like the Audi Etron and Jaguary I-Pace, the furniture salesman will be remembered for ruining the Mustang.

And if that happens, the next piece of furniture in his future should be an electric chair.

I do have to admit, the GT version does look much better. Still should not have the Mustang name on it.
Waiting for when GM copies this idea and split the Corvette name brand off of Chevrolet and inevitably onto some hi-po SUV they can charge bigger dollars for since they seemed more than willing to throw SS badges onto almost anything in the past.

Audi E tron does well in a lot of European states. I think it's actually the top selling EV in Norway.

Their marketing seems pretty weak in the US though, not sure if that's a contributing factor for low US sales.

I think Ford is going to have a hard time with this vehicle. Majority of the EV sales are along the coasts which are more population dense and also more techy. I think majority of those EV buyers prefer Tesla simply because it's considered a tech company and part of the tech culture.
