Assuming aftermarket skid plates that are not a dealer installed option then yes; provided if it is required to perform the warranty work needed. That, or they may charge you labor (not covered by warranty) to remove and reinstall them, but the default position will be to have you remove them which eliminates them having any liability for the skid plates in the future.

It's great to see this information! I added an accessport and intake to my 2018 Wrx because of the differences in drivability. I initially thought I'd have to just count on Subaru's reliability. Even though I trust Subaru products I understand nothing is perfect. Thanks for sharing!

The dealers sure like to find any reason to deny work. I had them complain that the window tint caused the door seals to leak. Of course I pushed back immediately and the work is now in progress! Be persistent, that seems to help.

What are your experiences with the AP? I read in a couple places here that some dealers actually recommend using an AP and will actually be on your side when having warranty issues.

The dealers do not have any say in regards to major warranty repairs, SOA handles those. If you would like to keep your engine warranty then do not install an ap.

I was stage 2 under warranty. I spun a rod bearing, so I put everything back to stock then brought it in. Everything was covered with no issues or questions.

Maybe you got lucky. But can you guarantee 100% that if he tunes it that Subaru will cover the repairs if he pops an engine?

I've spoken with a handful of people on here and Reddit who said they have had one or even two motors replaced under warranty after they removed their stage 2+ mods. Most people saying Subaru knows if you had mods are just fear mongering because they work for Subaru or are huge fan boys. Most people on here try and act high and mighty until their engine blows. Through my warranty experience, I'd recommend people remove their mods and act like a normal human being. Subaru will take care or you if you do that. |

So if I have an issue with my engine lets say, do they still cover it even if I had a tune?

Just buy an old turbo Subaru instead, and then you can complain about how Subarus are garbage to anyone who'll listen while still pouring money into it because you're a financial masochist, instead of worrying about warranties. And then you can start parting other garbage turbo Subarus to make your primary garbage turbo Subaru last longer so you can extend your misery as loooooong as possible.

Ringland warranty?
Has anyone had any luck with Subaru dealing with premature ringland issues? I know the class action lawsuit went through and they extended the warranty. My car is at 43k miles with very minimal mods. Aka exhaust intake. Car is showing symptoms of cylinder 4 ringland failure starting up. Has anyone been successful in getting this fixed under Subaru?

Warranty voided
I was told yesterday by my local dealership that my "powertrain and emissions warranty was now void due to modified tuning." The entire story is over in the drivetrain thread if you care to read

Warranty is determined first by the dealer or retailer, however you want to call it. I look the vehicle over and see what modifications are done. I then call SOA with information to make sure the vehicle's file, if you want to call it that, are updated. We fill out modification and damage reports for vehicles when they come in for warranty. Have Subaru maintenance records, they will typically help you. If you dont, well, cant help you. Senior Master Subaru and Master ASE Tech. Ask me how I know about warranty. I hate warranty. I dont get paid. |

I had a rod bearing failure at ~72k miles. I have all the documents from SOA about the class action lawsuit and the extended warranty for failures related to it. However, when I went to the dealership, they said they would not honor the warranty because the ECU had a tune on it. I tried to argue that the tune would not mechanical failure that has been known to plague this engine. They wouldn't budge. I called SOA, talked to them about it, they called the dealership, then they called me back and stood by the dealership saying that I would have to pay out of pocket.
Has anyone else gone through this before and still had the warranty honored? |

Personally, I was told that if I had an access port my engine replacement wouldn’t have been covered under warranty
