i did it in my garage, and you really need good lighting. every coating i looked into said a minimum of 24 hours before it can get wet. i dont know if dew is covered under that, but worth investigating.

I don't have a garage so I did my prep and application in a well-lit warehouse that I have access to. Used Gyeon CanCoat, which has a 12 hour cure time according to the manufacturer but is not as long lasting as some other coatings. Finished in the afternoon, drove home and parked outside, car got a little dewy overnight but it's held up fine.

I did it in a garage and let it sit for a few days. Talk to friends or family in the area and do it over a weekend?

I have a buddy who is looking to do it as well. Maybe we'll rent a garage from one of those storage places for a month and split it. We both have garages but have no room in them. I recently moved from a 2 car oversized garage to a barely 1 car, with all my other crap, no room.

I do have a bottle of the CQuartz wheel and trim to try on my wheels. Problem is the last shop scratched them and I don't feel like wasting the product now.

For now I use Duragloss 111+601 twice a year (spray wax after washing) and it works great. I'm sure the ceramic will hold a "wet" look longer and be easier to clean though. Funny thing, I get asked a couple times a year if I use ceramic.

The first car I coated stayed in the garage for a few days after the final coat. The second car came outside a few hours after. The dew seemed to fog the final coat. Maybe I screwed something up but that was my experience.

That looks incredible! I've been considering having this done on my crystal black silica STI.

I used Nextgen on my 2016 on monday after it was washed and towel dried. I started it around 5:30 PM on a 50 degree NE day and finished about 45 minutes later. The car stayed outside overnight and in the morning I didn't notice any issues with the coating.

This is my first post here on NASIOC.

The video is well put together and she got the prep and clay stages correct but what she didn't do properly is correct the paint.

I operate a detail shop here in PA. Please DON'T use that polishing tool on your vehicle. Used improperly, you will absolutely install holograms and swirls in the paint. Please also do not spin the polisher up while it isn't on the surface, you will send polish everywhere.

In addition, microfiber pads also are more aggressive than polish foam pads are. The bonnets that come with that toy will absolutely leave micromarring behind.

This tool also had rotation stall a lot because its low quality and low power motor. Use of a DA Polisher is highly recommended. They are inexpensive and easy to learn how to use. (If you want to learn about paint correction, my friend Phil on youtube has a great video on it.
)

The AvalonKing coating shown is a very cheap Chinese coating knock-off. Do not expect stellar length or durability from this coating. It's easy to install and apply because of the low solid content. (sio2 content) The more SiO2/TiO2 content there is, the faster a coating will flash and will be harder to work with. A quality coating will flash in about 30 seconds to 1 minute, not several minutes, pending temperature and humidity. This is not a top-tier coating but for those of you who want to do it yourself, it's a good option - again... don't expect super long durability.

Sorry for the wall of text. This is what I and my shop do day in and day out so I'm hoping I can save someone from swirling their nice Subie. If anyone has any questions about detailing their ride or questions on how to do something, feel free to PM me. I'm an open book.

This year my spring detail was similar to last year. Wash, clay, light paint correction (Chemical Guys VSS), degrease, then ceramic coat (Gyeon CanCoat). Detailed in a warehouse then drove home and parked outside. The ceramic coating cured just fine in fairly low temperatures (5-15C or 40-60F). It's probably best to park indoors for as long as possible while the coating is curing, but in my experience it's not that big of a deal. I've seen dew and frost since my application and it's still looking great and shedding water like crazy.

Yep, buy most of my stuff from Amazon or Autogeek but have really liked the shine and hydrophobic properties of the Gyeon Syncro kit. Prep is as important as the actual ceramic application. Or you'll just be sealing in all the imperfections.

No. It's a very very thin hard clear ceramic coating. It's like a sealant, but lasts something more like 5-10 (for good ones) and has to be compounded off if you want to get rid of it. PPF is more like thick plastic wrap.

I did mine in the garage, but I made a negative air pressure cocoon using some plastic sheeting from Home depot with a exhaust fan venting out to keep dust out.

interesting enough i have had my subie ceramic coated for 5 years now, at the 3 year mark I noticed it looked like i had streaks on my car so I got my fingernail to see what it was and I am guessing that it was the ceramic coating flaking off. so yeah on the parts. the only way you can tell if you polish your car that it is gone is by feel. That's what i have found with the cquartz uk

Ceramic coatings are long lasting, but they won't last for years without any maintenance. And they do eventually need to be reapplied.

I use this stuff as a booster about once every two months. Lots of companies make similar products. Once a year I polish off the old coating and reapply with this stuff. With a longer lasting coating you may only need to reapply every few years.

Not affiliated with Gyeon in any way but the linked products have worked really well for me.

This looks quite mean. Is there any special care you need to do? Or can you do standard wash, claybar and wax kind of stuff?

All dependent on brand, and what types you want to use.

Just do a normal wash using Adam's car shampoo, the blue stuff. No clay and no wax.

The spray detailer I use is known as "Merlin's Magic Elixir", its a homemade mix I came across while browsing various forums. I use it after every other, maybe every third wash and it works great, very slick and glossy just don't expect it to last a long time, it's just a spray detailer after all.

The recipe is:
2 oz Carpro Reload
2 oz Carpro ECH2o
20 oz distilled water

Obviously the total amount can vary, just be sure its a 1:1:10 ratio of those ingredients. Those are my quantities as I use a 24 oz spray bottle.

Carpro actually sells this same thing now after how popular it became and how well it works, Carpro Elixir, just way cheaper to mix it yourself.

Decided to have my STi ceramic coated. Now I don’t want to take it out of the garage!
